Winter-January 2026 Transfer Window Rumours ...

You’re presenting false choices. No one in the Championship is going to entertain selling us their left back unless we pay £5m+. Even then, a lot of clubs will flat out refuse.golfaddick said:
Really don't care what happened last January or what clubs bought what player.Callumcafc said:
Last January, these nine players made a permanent move between two Championship clubs for some kind of fee:golfaddick said:
Or C)NabySarr said:If you’re signing players from clubs higher than us in the football pyramid then they obviously aren’t going to have played much or any football this season, otherwise they wouldn’t be availableScanlon is definitely a huge concern, but with Clarke I really don’t see the problem. You basically have a choice, sign someone who’s been playing every week in league 1 but as we’ve seen that might not mean they are good enough in the championship. Or you sign someone from the Championship like Clarke, he’s available because he’s out of favour so hasn’t played, but he is championship level. Personally I’d rather sign the championship level player that hasn’t played rather than a league 1 player playing every week. That is the choice we are having to make
You spend money & buy someone who is good, reliable & currently playing. Yes, it means paying more than you would necessarily like to but thems the breaks.
Weird how decades of transfer nomality seems to have gone out the window.
Matt Grimes
Matt Clarke
John Egan
Isaiah Jones
Morgan Whittaker
Aaron Connolly
Anis Slimane
Tom Bradshaw
Lewis Gibson
The only players on that list who’d I say were actually first team regulars at the club that sold them:
- Matt Grimes (Swansea to Coventry, £4m),
- Morgan Whittaker (Plymouth to Middlesbrough, £7m),
- Lewis Gibson (Plymouth to Preston, £2m).
Plymouth were rooted to the bottom of the table at 24th in January last year - Boro and Preston arguably just picked off their two best players as they were mostly already gone. Would people accept that strategy if we tried it with Sheff Wed or Oxford? Why would a good Oxford player like Brannagan or Currie want to jump ship to another relegation battler in mid January?
And selling Grimes to Coventry was widely viewed as a significant mistake by Swansea supporters - Grimes is already an integral piece of a promotion chasing Coventry team.
All I'm concerned with is that we've had a gaping hole at LWB for 2 months & during that period we've only won once & losing to 2 of our immediate relegation rivals. We haven't been able to strengthen in that position until Jan 1st but 12 days later still nothing has been done. I do expect a player to come in but by the sounds if it they will not be "match fit" and may not be fit enough to start on Saturday. If that is the case & we have to experiment with TC in that role (or another square peg or unfit player) then I'm not expecting us to win. We then have Millwall....
To add to all that, it is well documented that we are not great upfront & do not score many goals.....so being defensively weak is more of a problem than it might be to other teams because once we concede the first goal you can usually kiss goodbye to us winning the game. Hence why strengthening the defence is more important TO US than it might be to any of the other 91 teams in the League system.
I do try not to post much on here but it does do my head in reading how people will seemingly be happy to sign players who haven't been playing regularly and/or have not played a minute of football this season. We've already rushed back Bell because we didnt have many options and he has now sustained another injury. Bringing in a player who had not played 90 mins of football this season is a recipe for disaster imo.
Would love to see the club bring you in for 24 hours to see how you got on trying to buy a player.9 -
Supports Chelsea?TheHerminator said:Also was Dykes definitely at the Chelsea game? Why would he be there unless a deal is imminent?8 -
I’m sure bringing in Dykes is more about making sure Leaburn doesn’t break down with an injury himself. He’s started eight games in a month. And there’s still 21 more to play before the end of the season.TheHerminator said:
I was wondering this. Having not seen much/any of Dykes play to be honest, is he necessarily an upgrade on Miles who has really hit his straps recently without necessarily banging the goals in?Laddick01 said:How has Lyndon Dykes become the most wanted player in the Championship. I wouldn’t even be that excited if we signed him on loan.
With the way Leaburn has played the last few games I’d be OK if we missed out on this one.18 -
Was probably fed up of being in Birmingham, came to the bright lights of south east London to lighten up his mood.TheHerminator said:Also was Dykes definitely at the Chelsea game? Why would he be there unless a deal is imminent?0 -
Yea fair enough. Seems like a lot of potential wages budget to rotate him, but Miles is never very far from an injury sadlyCallumcafc said:

Was this ever confirmed? Just saw a couple of BS artists on social media claiming it but didn’t provide pictures.TheHerminator said:Also was Dykes definitely at the Chelsea game? Why would he be there unless a deal is imminent?
I would have thought more people would have noticed a bloke with 17 million tattoos if he was actually there.5 -

I've not seen other people say it yet, but I picked up that Lyndon Dykes is on a 'significant wage' at Birmingham, and even Ipswich would hope Birmingham would contribute to his wages.MarcusH26 said:January is such a bizarre window to work in. There's a finite number of available players usually it's either someone way out of favour because new signings have userped them from last season and they're getting 10 mins here and there off the bench or it's someone that's coming back off a major layoff and isn't going to be quite up to speed yet.
I can't believe the only available champ experienced striker in the whole division is Lyndon Dykes so much so that Ipswich and Leicester are both genuinely interested. I know Leicester had Julian Carranza recalled by Feyenoord but he was barely playing anyway, they've got options up top with Daka, Mavididi can play down the middle if needed and Jordan Ayew.
May indicate why we seem to have dropped out of trying to get him on loan?
If even Ipswich with parachute payments and their ability to spend big are needing a decent wage contribution to make a deal possible, I would be very surprised if we're still in the running.0 -
Could be argued that Dykes IS uncollected rubbish?EugenesAxe said:

Expecting Leaburn to last 90+ minutes for the rest of the season is not realistic. We actually miss (along with Godden for different reasons) Aneke, which is not to say he would have been effective in the Championship. The ability to bring on a real battering ram for the last 20/30 mins would be for me a desirable addition.TheHerminator said:
