If he was who I'm thinking, he arrived at Erith School when I was already in the 6th form and a reluctant prefect. He was a cheeky, mischievous and entirely endearing kid, who always ended up making me laugh when I attempted to bring any kind of order to proceedings. I bumped into him at the Valley years later, when he told me he was a motorcycle cop. He was still the same funny, friendly person.
RIP Alan. Keep them laughing in the afterlife.1 -
Condolences to his family and close friends and Steve, I hope you found solace at his wake with a celebration of his life but having lost a close friend in January last year and both parents last June and October, we do have to find strength by remembering the good times to get us through. These passings certainly leave a void in our lives.
RIP Alan.

RIP Alan. I'm sure I'm not the only person wondering if they "know" Alan.
It would be lovely to see a photo if swisdom and family feel it appropriate.0 -
Rest in Peace Big Al, a great mate for over 40 years.SoundAsa£ said:
Unfortunately he didn't know he was so ill until recently.Had only got to know him about a year or so back.
A very lively and friendly character, one of those kind of people if he was in the room with you, you certainly knew it. He would be here there and everywhere buzzing around continuously spreading good vibes to one and all.
Sat on the same table with him at Wembley recently and had absolutely no idea whatsoever that he was so ill……you’d never have guessed it in a million years.
Hard to believe he succumbed so quickly.
Fuck cancer.😥
RIP…..Alan…..RIP.

The ceremony was really nice and upbeat - more a celebration than mourning. The eulogies made me laugh and cry at the same time.
and Alan insisted we all sing the Red Red Robin as part of proceedings. I was too busy blubbing but the rest gave it a good go.
rest easy up there mate. Miss you. Thanks all for your kind words10 -

If Alan was an ex dog handler in the Met then I knew him and also worked with his daughter. Regardless, may he RIP.0

I knew him as he was a year above me at Erith School. He acted as a bit of a lad in those days with his DM's etc, so a lot of us were surprised he ended up working as a Plod.
