Like the fella but never really been convinced of him as a top tier midfielder.

Maybe I am just seeing him as a ‘water carrier’ rather than someone that will pick a game up by the scruff of its neck and drive tour team onto victory.

If it was down to Villa and Totteringham you would think he'd go to Villa for football reasons.
Something tells me the wedge was higher with the 1961 boys.
He just wants his bins emptied on a regular basis :)
  • Just thank your lucky stars he never signed for that lot from Surrey.

If that Fabrizio Romano fella is correct, he has turned down Villa for a permanent deal at Spurs.

    He must be bonkers.

Will be interesting to see where he fits in.  Am I right in saying his best position is as a box to box no.8, as opposed to a sitting 6?!  Did he ever play as a 10?

I know Poch saw him as a 6...
No brainer of a decision for him surely.

    1. Uproot to Birmingham for 6 months on loan and then not know if they'll take you on or if you'll be back in Madrid. Or take the offer of a 5.5 year deal to live in London.
    2. Spurs reportedly offered him more money than Villa.
    3. He probably has a better chance of a first team place in the Spurs midfield than Villa's.

Always really liked him and the way he helped us - was gutted when he went to Swansea.  Followed his career and will be good to see him back in the Premier league - exciting player.  Think the Tottenham choice was mainly because he wanted to be back in London.  Good luck to him.

Great signing for spurs, i'd say a bit of a box to box but gets stuck in and can play out wide if needed too so will do well. A bit of quality on the ball, both passing and with his feet will be a creative spark they need

He was tremendous for us, was great watching him and that morally bankrupt scumbag in the side.
  • If Spurs play a midfield of Gallagher, Bentancur and Palhinha (plus they have Romero and Richarlison) they're going to be getting a lot of yellow cards.

I just meant from the two different direction that the football teams seem to be going in haha.
Oh from his POV, absolute no brainer.  He's a proper leader, which makes him first midfield pick candidate over the current mob of Palhinha, Rodders, Sarr and Bergvall.

I may be wrong but I reckon his salary would be too much for them.
He could be on a minimum of 150k a week.

True, Richarlinson is out for a couple months.

Pretty sure if Gallagher had a choice of London or Birmingham there would be no contest

I think he'll do really for Spurs and I wouldn't be surprised if he chips in with a few important goals for them too. His closing down and work-rate reminded me very much of Scott Parker at his best. Irrepressible desire to close down and keep going while others couldn't.

    Exactly what we need.

The number of goals we have conceded from the edge of the box centrally is beyond a joke.  We just don't close down quick enough.

I'll be amazed if he plays all 3.  I honestly think it'll be Gallagher, one of Bentancur/Palhinha then one of Bergvall/Sarr, with Gray in contention for all 3 midfield spots.

Gray seems to be Frank's favourite at the moment, as to be fair to him, he has played more than ok.

Not sure what Sarr has done to be Frank's least favourite.  He started the season like a house on fire then he got a small knock and he has found himself with less and less game time under Frank.  Even more frustrating that he went off to AFCON and hasn't played for Senegal.

Thats a great move for him and an amazong signing by Tottenham going totally against the grain of them wasting money on players devoid of any arsehole, consistency or quality

    Class man class player

Isn’t Bentancur out for the season, could have sworn I saw on SSN that he had surgery on his knee ligaments.

Hamstring.  8 weeks.  (in Spurs terminology, that usually means 6-9 months!)

     Re: Gray

I was having a debate on twitter with a spurs fan the other day, basically they posted the team and on paper how it looks decent (pre-Gallagher), however i disagreed with Archie Gray for the moment, i feel when i've seen him, he's looked better RB, i see him lose the ball a lot and i don't feel he's done very well of late, i have seen a lot of your games recently. Am i making it up? i still feel its a bit soon for Gray, i don't doubt he will be some player but for me he looked better RB

I know Poch saw him as a 6...

The midfielder feels he will play more games under Frank than Emery, and he wants to live in London again.

This explains why he went to Spurs and not Villa, and illustrates the bullshit of PSR

"And this is one of the challenges facing Unai Emery because they have huge financial losses and have already been caught up in PSR.

"They've already made a deal with UEFA, so Villa have got difficulties because they can't compete, and this is the unfairness of it all.

"But I think he [Gallagher] would have been better off at Villa.

"I think he would have done better. Villa are in the ascendancy and are challenging for being inside the top four, and Tottenham are challenging to keep their manager."

On a wider point, White asked Jordan if PSR wasn't a thing, would Villa be able to attract the best?

"They would really be able to knock on some doors," Jordan responded.

In the end, Spurs have won the race for Gallagher's signature, which isn't likely to go down well with Chelsea fans.

But he has chosen a club that appears to be on a downwards spiral, with Spurs out of both domestic cups and languishing in 14th place.

They are currently still in the Champions League, but the likliehood of them getting back into it next season is slim, as it stands.

There is also uncertainty over head coach Thomas Frank with results not good enough.

Though, you could argue that Spurs bringing in Gallagher is a sign they are willing to give the Dane things time to turn things around.

Emery has been left frustrated with Villa missing out on Gallagher.
Meanwhile, Villa are on track to be back in the Champions League next term
Villa are one of the favourites to win the Europa League

Gray has started last 8 maybe 9 games at CM.  He's looked more accomplished/competent than Bentancur (which is saying something!)

Gray has only played RB this season for England U21s at times.

New LB Souza due to sign shortly so hopefully means Spence plays on the right more often than not (sorry, Porro is going to be the death of me!) which means Gray wont be playing there much.

EDIT : As my mate (ST holder) has just said, Frank now has a bonified 6 (Palhinha), 8 (Gallagher) and a 10 (Xavi Simons).  Makes sense on paper.  Lets see what Frank does with it.
  • For me he is a good not great midfielder at the premier league level.  Seems to have struggled some at Athletico too so not sure if he is going to be a difference maker at Tottenham

Yes but not really seen him do it in decent league.

Not a match winner in my opinion at this level.

Struggled! At Atletico Madrid? Really? He played 32 League and 9 Champions league matches for them last season.

He’s a player fit for any top 4 club imo. Spurs are lucky to get him and he’ll make a huge difference to them.
