  • Huge risk if we think having Clarke whos barely played any football especially regular and Apter who isnt even a RWB

One injury to either and we will be bang in trouble !

So Clarke in for Bree and number wise we're no better off in defence.
    This.

You don't think we brought him in as an addition to Bree do you ?  If so you've not been paying attention.

If we could actually sign a solid LWB, then Apter could play RWB like he did at the start of the season so well...
    Yes....IF.

A real blow this. I think Bree has been better in recent weeks and on his day is a good dead ball taker which we desperately need. Never fall in love with a loan player. I think he'll look tidy in a footballing side like Soton.
  • I think Bree is a very good, reliable Championship player.  I like the sound of Clarke but worry about his injury record.  I certainly wouldn't be pleased with a 1 to 1 trade in that case.  Not a great window so far.

I think Bree was excellent for a couple of months, but his set pieces have been woeful for a couple of months and his overall play has definitely dipped. It’s a loss but not a terrible one. I personally wouldn’t mind, particularly in away games, playing Ramsay RWB.

I think it's a shame if we lose Bree, there is in the team overall a lack of experience in the team at this level, and when he is fully fit, his delivery is the best we have. In terms of defensive cover we have it with Clark and a returning Ramsay, it's the deadball situations that worry me, quite simply for all the good things that Connor Coventry brings, deadball expertise is not one of them. So now, midway through the window, we have still have the left wing back situation to deal with, or is Nathan Jones confident in the Bell, Edwards combination and their fitness, not sure I am, and how does he address the question of delivery ? 14 days to go, much gnashing of teeth from lifers if form does not pick up and those questions are not answered.

Regarding Bree...WIOTOS, maybe we are gonna make an offer they can't refuse...🙏🤞

I’d be very surprised if we can bring in a RWB that’s better than Bree. So that’s a big blow

At least we’ve brought Clarke in already but I’m sure we will want another player in

Palace are short at RWB currently so I think that’s why Imray has been recalled

Hoping it’s just a negotiation tactic from Southampton. Make us up our offer by saying they want to keep him

Didn’t sound like a negotiation. Their manager talking about how he has been playing week in week out.

Yeah I think you’re right. Still probably up to Bree though as I doubt they would want to lose him on a free, but I’d imagine if he’s been told he’s going to play for Southampton he will want to try and earn a contract there because it will be larger than the one we’ve probably offered him

If he gets released in the summer I’d imagine we will be first in the queue

Bree played brilliantly first 5/6 games then dipped massively, Apter won player of the month and scored a goal as RWB I’m not to concerned, was unlucky to be banished from the team.

His set pieces have obviously been poor recently, but we are still near the top of the championship for set piece goals, which shows just how good they were when he had a working right leg

Definitely need to bring in a good set piece taker but that’s probably not the easiest thing to add in January

Losing Bree is a disappointment. So 2 wingbacks and a CM needed then. Clarke I can't see starting every week there and I don't think NJ would want to start Apter without sorting out the LWB first.

I don't know if The Saints manager does or doesn't want Bree back, but if you ask a manager about a player potentially returning from a loan you get the kind of positive answer given about Bree.

Bree and Apter are completely different players

    Shame to lose Bree.

He may have dropped off due to injury and his set pieces have taken a nose dive but he's shown enough when on his game that he's a whole different level of player than what we've been used to.

Bit like JRC and (probably) Dykes, these may not be top championship players to other clubs, but for us they are.

Loan Rak-Sakyi, let Olaofe go out on loan would be my suggestion

See now that wouldn't be ridiculous

(Until we see him tracking back to cover Gillesphey from LWB)

    Jonesy says to Bree,

"Look! Breezy I have just had an Idea. We will say that you will gladly go back, and bloody good riddance!, you can say you have changed your mind because of all the stick you have been getting on CL about your crap passing. Look!,Once down South immediately you go injured, and spend all the time you need getting fully fit and sorting out all your niggles, take it easy and get a nice tan! Come the end of season, you're fully fit, the best version of yourself, and on a free. We'll up your signing on fee, and welcome you back next year for nothing! .... otherwise, look,...we will have called Southamptons bluff, and they will fold faster than Superman on laundry day....wotcha reckon?",

"Sounds good to me gaffer! I'll leave my boots and kit in the locker if thats ok. Have a nice Easter! I'll chillax and catch up with you in Croatia?"
  • Well connected Southampton journalist effectively confirming Bree is returning there

Shall we send him back injured?

So Clarke in for Bree and number wise we're no better off in defence.
Worse, Clarke has not played that season at the levels Bree has

You have been drinking from the NJ 'let's try and fail to turn attacking wingers into defensive wingbacks', magical thinking cup again.

Exactly that we are potentially swapping someone who despite a niggle is ever present and decent for someone who's not played much at all for a while despite the fact we have quite a few injury prone defenders.

If Bree goes back we will get another RWB in of that I’m certain.

We must have someone lined up, I would imagine to cover Bree going back to Saints and would assume would be ready for Tuesday night

A couple of names mentioned on ITTV. as possible left backs

Apparently Jack Bidwell might be available for a loan from Coventry.

Adam Reach is also listed although personally I am not sure we could attract him from Lincoln as they are second in L1.
