  • Just been speaking to a Shef United fan on the way to the match. Apparently Bamford is on fire but their TC has gone off the boil recently so that could bode well for the left side of our defence. He said they played a strong team against Mansfield last week and got thumped. Let's hope the same team turns up today!
Always the pessimist, I think we may lose by the odd goal today. I really hope not.

With our left side a mess I cannot see how we can beat a free scoring Sheff Utd. I think this one will really set off the relegation alarm bells, 3-0 to United.

Today could be a proper hiding. They are scoring a lot of goals and our defence is depleted.
Appreciate it won’t happen but maybe today is the game to change our formation and forget the WB’s
We need to play a front 2 though. Kelman and Leaburn partnership is the best thing about us at the moment. So we basically need to play 3-5-2, as a 4-4-2 would probably leave us way to open
3-5-2 isn’t the only formation to ever work, jones is a good coach and will be aware that there are more formations, he will eventually have to change if he doesn’t get the results required, or the players to play in his chosen formation. Nothing wrong with 4-4-2 with the right players and coaching.

Has NJ played a different formation this season?

It's amazing the amount of people giving up any hope today before even a ball has been kicked...we're f'in Charlton Athletic, and we don't do giving up...ok😉🙌

Can’t remember the game, but played about 3 formations in one half😂
Do I need to answer this question as we all know.?
I am making the point that eventually if things don’t work you have to change something. NJ might have to think about it, but we may do ok and it will stay the same. Just a point of discussion not a right or wrong.

I didn't think we were especially good last Saturday against Chelsea, as I thought we lacked a bit of intensity and let Chelsea have a very easy game, other than Leaburn. Obviously we won't play against sides of that level for the rest of this season, but we will regularly be up against better footballing teams than ourselves, and need to be able to press and disrupt them.

I'm disappointed that we haven't signed a LWB yet, that's the one position where we needed someone in the door at the start of the month, as it's created so many problems throughout the team, with players out of position having to cover LWB, and Apter completely sidelined as NJ won't play him at RWB without a solid defender on the other flank.

Last 5 games they’ve scored an impressive 13 goals but conceded 9. I don’t how many of those 13 Bamford has scored or got an assist for but if he is on fire his teammates must be self-combusting behind him.

Been scoring a few goals also😬, but we are at home and most of the time that means we are hard to beat at the very least. We are capable of winning any game.

To be fair they could have lost 79 of their last 80 and we would still all be saying that would beat us….🤣

    Hope to see:

    Kaminski
    Bree
    Ramsay
    Jones
    Gillesphy
    TC
    Coventry
    Rankin-Costello
    Knibbs
    Kelman
    Dykes

Leaburn, Tanto, Carey, Doc, Clark, Apter etc on bench

Leaburn has been on fire, but give him a rest today (Tuesday a greater opp for 3 points imho) and let Dykes bully their defence. Berry out imho - great mind lesser form as of now and Knibbs is strong aerially as well as deserving a crack.

2-2 Kelman amongst the goals (again)

Spot on. Braced for a thrashing.

TC, Burke and Ramsay may not be fit enough. Squad selection, tactics and formation all up for grabs.

Don’t think we are in a position to be resting players for other games at the moment, don’t see how Leaburn gets benched after a goal against Chelsea and recent performances.

I'd have Bree at LWB for this one. Still not really sure why we haven't done that so far. Could even have been a way to get apter back in the side.

Yes the Blades position is skewed by their poor early season results, but Derby are 3 points ahead of them. This isn't one of those situations where we are playing a top team today, and strugglers on Tuesday.

Rotation might be needed, because of fitness issues, but it's not a situation where one game is clearly winnable and the other isn't. Sheffield United for example lost 2-0 at a poor West Brom team.

If any uninjured player who has been playing regularly and isn’t fit enough to play Saturday and midweek by this stage in the season then perhaps they are not in the right career for them.

Need to stop Hamer if he gets the ball on the edge of the area and shoots it's going top bins, would have been a job for Anderson but he's not featured recently.

It will be a tough game, aren’t they all ? I don’t remember an easy game in league 1 but , we are at home and they ain’t champions league ir premier league - we nearly beat Coventry, we have every chance of beating these - COYR !!!!!

Bamford is a cowardly useless cheating prick but he will obvs win them a penalty and maybe see us drop to 10….

That Coventry game feels like so long ago but you’re bang on. We were more than deserving of a win against the runaway leaders at the time.

No game is a forgone conclusion. We can win today if we show up

I’m bang up for this - proper proper game, loads riding on it - give me this over playing a mid table league 1 ‘clash’with Burton - things were always gonna be tough this year - people need to stop whinging, sniping and griping and turn up today like it’s a cup final and then go up a gear next week!!!! 😂👏👏💪💪👍

Put Gough in place of Gillesphey in defense and if Clarke’s not ready or isn’t considered right to play on the left then put Gillesphey left midfield. I get fed up with all the Gillesphey bashing. He has defensive frailties, I agree, but he’s a good footballer with great vision for an incisive pass. I’d like to see him given a chance in midfield and if that must be as a left wing back then at least he wouldn't be too central if he makes one of his mistakes.
its a lot easier to play good passes from defence when you have the whole pitch laid out in front of you, nobody behind you and you haven't been running up and down the pitch all game - got to say, thats one of the worst shouts i've seen on here for some time, if not the worst - would be a complete duck out of water
Fair enough, maybe, but I’ve always liked him as a player and still do. I just think he has a lot to offer. He and  Apter are the best players we have to put the ball at Kelman’s feet which is what we are seriously lacking. You only need to be running up and down the pitch all game if you play wing backs. I’d like to see him further up the pitch. If not then give Apter some game time -  as a winger, not a wing back. The rest is for the coaching staff to organise and train them. NJ seems to think wing backs are obligatory but his system isn’t working. Do we obstinately stick with it? Opposition managers must hope so. I do really think that we need a shake-up. We are so predictable: so I predict two home defeats if continue with our current failing tactics.

If there’s anyone on the ground who won’t need motivating its NJ - the man is passion from head to toe and I don’t like how quick some know it alls are to jump on his perceived mistakes in formation, transfer market or whatever else - he performed a miracle last year and early on this season and I’m 100% behind him - the way he wears his heart in his sleeve is an added bonus. If we can become known as the hardest working hardest running and fighting team in the league I’m quite happy if we play zero pretty tika taka football -  kick and rush when done right, I love it - COYR !!!

I agree, he’s not as one dimensional as people would want everyone to think, if we consolidate and are able to get better players he will adapt how we play.
