IF we were to get him as well as Chambered it’s surely more likely Chambers plays the LCB/LB role with League outside at WBsam3110 said:

Not holding much hope of signing any real quality.
Box of frogs manager languishing at the bottom of the league. Doubt the queue is very long.5 -

Ok I am very insular in my old age and only really care about Charlton, so bow to your better knowledge.MarcusH26 said:
Looked good at covering against the ball in being from the limited highlights I saw but I wouldn't be playing someone like him LCB in the Champ.cfgs said:I do wonder if Junior League could be to play LCB, would add pace.1 -
We need at least 1 more lwb and lcb and a rwb5

Chambers can play LCB and LWB. I think if we have Chambers, Bell, Gillesphey and then one more signing that’s 4 players to cover 2 positions. Wouldn’t be expecting anything more than that for left side of defence. Be hard to convince anyone to join if we already have 4 players thereAberystwythAddick said:We need at least 1 more lwb and lcb and a rwb

Bree isn’t in the Southampton squad tonight. That to me would hint that he’s definitely available if we want him, wouldn’t be surprised if that deal gets done towards the end of the window as Southampton drop their demands to avoid losing him for free11

They're only 5 points off relegation at the minute, if I were them I wouldn't be selling us a proven champ playerNabySarr said:Bree isn’t in the Southampton squad tonight. If he’s genuinely a left back, I would really suggest we alter our formation and go 4/5/1 4/3/3
It has the huge advantage of the fact our squad set up is far more suited AND we wouldn’t have to play Gillesphey.2 -
Only if they don't back themselves to be better than Gillesphey and Bell when he's injuredNabySarr said:

I’m not sure our squad is more suited to that at all.RC_CAFC said:If he’s genuinely a left back, I would really suggest we alter our formation and go 4/5/1 4/3/3
It has the huge advantage of the fact our squad set up is far more suited AND we wouldn’t have to play Gillesphey. All of our centre backs have played the best football of their careers in a back 3 set up. I’d only really trust Jones and Burke in a back 4 as centre backs, and we know Burke can’t play every game so that doesn’t really work as a plan
The strikers we have are all probably good enough at this level in a pairing, but I don’t think any of them are good enough as a lone striker.
So the only 2 players this change would really suit is Apter and TC. I like both of them but I don’t think they’d suddenly start consistently scoring and assisting in this new setup. They just aren’t that good yet. And that’s before we get to the lack of depth we’d then have in those positions
So our squad doesn’t suit it really. It would just suit 2 players, and imo they aren’t good enough players to change the system for. If a miracle happened and we signed Rak-Sakyi then maybe it’s a different conversation and it would be worth making the change
I don’t think a change of system should be the plan (and im pretty sure it won’t be), but it’s nice to have the personnel to be able to switch things to this in game3 -
Yes looking up information about a player we signed to establish his level is lame and just moaning.Michaelmon said:

Jones has done it again! After enjoying a successful loan spell with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in the second part of the 2022/23 campaign, the defender was handed his Liverpool debut by Jürgen Klopp in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup in September 2023.
He then earned three Europa League appearances – including starts against Toulouse and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise – before spending the latter half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Wigan Athletic.
The Europa League minutes (137) came in full rotation under Klopp, and his EFL Cup debut lasted 1 minute.
Are we signing a Europa League calibre player here? Jones has done it again!
Love that you felt the need to explain he only played under rotation though, as if somehow everyone here was thinking we'd signed Liverpool's first choice wingback or something.
Also enjoyed you found out how many minutes he'd played to continue the moan. Top class dedicated moaning. Keep it up and you'll be a Golfie one day my son.
It's shocking, I know, but I can support the team whilst calling out poor recruitment.
Let's come back to evaluate this signing in 4 months and see how it went.

I honestly don’t understand the hate for Gillesphey! I actually thought he had a decent game last night. The goal he could do nothing about and his second half quick balls out to TC kept our attacks flowing. But it’s ok forget about Lloyd Jones dodgy header and the shit defending down Burke and Jones side for the goal, blame it on Gillesphey.RC_CAFC said:If he’s genuinely a left back, I would really suggest we alter our formation and go 4/5/1 4/3/3

Gillesphey is 3x better with a good left back next to him, he hasn’t had that for months.18

Never been so excited about an unknown player rumour as I am about Junior League. For that name alone we simply have to make it happen, whatever the cost.
Plus, with his pace and sizeable neck he is giving me Thierry Small vibes. Get it done Charlton. 🤣6 -
So we believe we missed out on the villa left back who went to Boro. And possibly Amass, who is going to Norwich. And we were rumoured to be in for Scanlon. Maybe Chambers is 4th choice - this is no one’s fault if the players/clubs have decided on different deals than with Charlton

Gillesphey will forever be a hero and I was backing him in league one when others weren’t, but he’s not up to it at this level. He nearly gave away a penalty, he gets out sprinted by any pace, he’s getting caught in possession and he just looks bereft of confidence.cafc_se7 said:

He’s just not good enough to be a Championship starter.7 -
I've heard AMB or Mannion might be going on loan to Orient. Presume it's the former.6

Last night aside, it's abundantly clear that while THAT goal will forever land him in the club history books he's patently not going to be good enough for this league. He's just not quite quick enough and his long passes get gobbled up by the better sides we're playing now. It's a shame really but he really is a league one player when it comes down to it.cafc_se7 said:

Wouldn't surprise me. Their current first choice Killian Cahill who they signed from Brighton in the summer does look a bit shaky so AMB would probably be an upgrade.charlton_hero said:I've heard AMB or Mannion might be going on loan to Orient. Presume it's the former.1 -

But like someone said above, he is a much better player with a decent left sided defender that gives us balance! He was absolutely fine in games earlier in the season! They all look bereft of confidence, even Lloyd Jones does!RC_CAFC said:

Let's come back to evaluate this signing in 4 months and see how it went. You looking up how many minutes he’s had in his - 3 appearances for Liverpool in the Europa league - as something to then try to use to justify him as being a bad signing is just ridiculous, you realise that right?I recommend evaluating all signings after you’ve seen them play at least a little bit so yes, 4 months time sounds perfect.3 -
You only have to look at our record with and without Bell to see he isn’t up to it. He goes down in folklore but the championship attackers are just too fast and strong for him.cafc_se7 said:

It’s not the thread for it, but we desperately need an upgrade on Gillesphey.
Time and again he goes wandering into no man’s land and leaves huge gaping holes behind which the opposition always exploit because they know what’s going to happen. He then leaves Jones exposed trying to cover at least 2 attackers whilst he casually jogs back.
But it doesn’t get spoken about because people either deem it him being aggressive (he’s not, it’s poor positioning), or they talk about the lack of left wing back or left back as if having a specialist in that position will make less prone to these stupid decisions.
The fact he doesn’t have a left back or left wing back next to him makes it even more insane as it’s already a weak and exploited side anyway.
We are much better when we have Bell playing, we’ve just forced him to play out of position too much causing these hamstring injuries.
Either way, if we are to stay up, it has to be thank you for your improvement last season and that goal to win us promotion at Wembley, but that is his level and we must improve.

Gillesphey's positioning was his best attribute last season so I doubt it's solely down to him "wandering into no man's land".
To say he's not affected by who's playing next to him is to not understand the notion that it's a team game and you defend as a unit3 -
Can someone tell Gillesphey that?sam3110 said:Gillesphey's positioning was his best attribute last season so I doubt it's solely down to him "wandering into no man's land".
