People writing off Apter or calling him a bizarre signing when it clearly worked really well at the start of the season is more bizarre than calling it a bizarre signing, don't think it takes a genius to see why he's not starting many games at the moment given the fragility of the side, although I will say it's confusing why he's not making the bench as think tired defenders would hate his directness and pace, particularly when we're chasing games as we been often over the last few months

For me Apter could play behind the strikers.  He's more than just a winger but certainly not a wing back.  He's decent with both feet so can go both ways, he can pick a pass and is skilful.  I'd like to see him given a shot there at some point.  His shooting is also pretty decent and he tends to work the 'keeper

JRC has had a couple of decen games and a couple of stinkers but Nathan sees him in training daily so we maybe have to trust his judgement.

Knibbs took a while to get fit and hasn't really got going.  As daft as it sounds, he will be like a new signng next season provided we don't rush him back.  Let him heal properly and have a full pre-season rather than risk rushing him back and him breaking down.  I'd always have him ahead of Berry because
i just don't get Berry.  At all.  There's a lot of love for him, but I think he's too slow and is always a yard behind the ball.

I’d be trying him out in the reserves in that position 1st, I’ve asked this before, did he ever play that role at Blackpool?, if not I don’t think we are in a position to be trying completely new things out in 1st team games.

Barely. 10 games there in National League for Scunthorpe, 1 for Blackpool in L1 and supposedly against Oxford for us but he actually was LWB that game

Would be a fair amount of risk then, I’m not convinced he’d have the composure required, he’s a bit of a live wire. It could work who knows but would need working on.

It worked for three games then the defence capitulated against QPR, where Apter had a good game going forward but was poor defensively. Apter then had another poor game against Millwall and Jones clearly felt it was an issue, brought Bree in and Apter has hardly played since. That’s why I think it’s bizarre. We spent a lot of money to sign him for a system where Jones clearly doesn’t feel he fits in.

Maybe when Edwards is back like someone said we will see Apter back in that role but at the moment to me it does seem like a poor piece of recruitment. I’m not writing him off nor am I saying he isn’t a good player but it doesn’t seem like a good signing at the moment and I hope Apter gets given a chance to redeem that

I'll repeat what I said earlier, Apter has had a bust up with Jones and won't play for Charlton again. (Unless Jones goes first presumably.)
  • The root cause of our problems, apter not playing, TC playing at LWB and our rock solid defensive unit looking very creaky now is that LWB position. Hopefully now we’re getting bodies in that left sided position that will no longer be an issue.

Maybe they both need to be grownups and get on with it.
I think this is the case, bust ups probably happen all the time in Football, its bound to happen when Footballers and Managers like winning games and arent, so they'll get frustrated with each other - Unless its a case of Todd vs. Kiely I can't see Jones being that petty enough to completely freeze someone out.
It was only on Wednesday night we were told by Rodwell / Carter that Olaofe and Apter were seen as long term investments and that we werent expecting immediate returns from that investment for each of them. Our problem as a fanbase, is we seem to expect those immediate results. Am sure if Chambers has a poor debut, there will be some smug instant reactions that we've signed the wrong Wing-Back

Just found it weird on Tuesday to have Berry and Fullah on the bench , one and Apter makes a bit more sense balance wise, or Apter instead of Roussillon.

I’ve no idea if it’s true re Apter and Jones falling out but I would surmise from past behaviour that NJ holds grudges forever.

TBH it was difficult for any player to redeem himself if he fell out with Curbs.

We switched to a 3-4-2-1 second half against Derby. I think that would be Apter’s best position on the right of the 2 behind the striker. If we see more of that formation then I think we will see more of Apter

If Sam Field is available (and it seems like he is). I would be putting in an offer. A double pivot of Field and Coventry would be an upgrade on what we have. Captained QPR in recent years too, a leader in the middle.
He’s also filled in at LWB in his time at QPR. So would add an emergency body in there too potentially. Think this would be an excellent signing

Or with Bows. Or Ferguson, Or Klopp, Or Clough, Or Arteta, etc etc.
I don’t think it is grudges.
You can have open discussion but there is a boundary that must not be crossed. The danger of cliques is a real risk and the team is more important than one player. You can voice an opinion but once a decision has been made you have to be in 100%
If a player finds he can not apologise and accept the managers ideas and decisions he has to move on.

I liked Field and has played in the champ ever since he was on loan to us.  Why not.

No recollection of him at Charlton at all
Playing in midfield first half of 19/20 season he would have been alongside Josh Cullen and Conor Gallagher.
None of our current midfielders are close to their class.
Coventry might make a regular in the 19/20 matchday squad but that's it.
I'd take the 19/20 Darren Pratley over most of the current crop of options.

If he's really available, he'd definitely be an upgrade on Doc, Anderson, Carey but another capable left-sided defender has too be a greater priority
