Sam Field is a good championship player but has he been linked or are we just hoping?0

Just cause a player not playing he must have fell out with the manager ….. think it’s been Sid a few times by the club that Apter was brought in for the future more then tho seasonWeegie Addick said:I’ve no idea if it’s true re Apter and Jones falling out but I would surmise from past behaviour that NJ holds grudges forever.TBH it was difficult for any player to redeem himself if he fell out with Curbs.3 -
19/20 Pratley was a dark wizard. He knew all the dark arts.Billy_Mix said:
No recollection of him at Charlton at allLaddick01 said:Sam Field running the game against Nottingham Forest was one of the best halves of football I’ve ever seen us play.I quite liked him even if he wasn’t very flashy.
Playing in midfield first half of 19/20 season he would have been alongside Josh Cullen and Conor Gallagher.
None of our current midfielders are close to their class.
Coventry might make a regular in the 19/20 matchday squad but that's it.
I'd take the 19/20 Darren Pratley over most of the current crop of options.
If he's really available, he'd definitely be an upgrade on Doc, Anderson, Carey but another capable left-sided defender has too be a greater priority3 -

No link. It’s been said QPR are willing to let him go this window, so it’s some wishful thinking. I’d certainly like it if he did. Did well for us before and been a consistent Championship player ever since. Only 27 and I think he’d be a very good starter in our midfield.Danny Addick said:Sam Field is a good championship player but has he been linked or are we just hoping?5 -
Brighton bringing in a talented kid from Ecuador ( or indeed trying to sign Mbick) is a club buying for the future.RonnieMoore said:

No way did we spend big money (for us) last summer on the likes of Apter, Kelman and Knibbs unless we expected them to be significant first team players this season. We don't have the finances to do that, when staying up is the only priority.14 -

Just had a text from my brother who told me He was next table along from Nathan and Rob in the bexleyheath wimpys. Apparently things were going along very well as they both enjoyed quarter pounder's, fries and milkshakes but then Rob ordered a bendy and cheese frankfurter burger and things went south very fast again.17

Got injured away at Bristol City iirc. If I also recall correctly we had someone else injured that game and BC went on to win in injury time. Bonne did score a good goal tbf.gringo said:

When was this? Because I saw NJ throw a milkshake over the raptor at Woolwich wimpys (this is how the rumour started)Steven81 said:Just had a text from my brother who told me He was next table along from Nathan and Rob in the bexleyheath wimpys. Heard Nathan was furious that they stopped doing the lime milkshake. Don't blame him tbh. Apter said he should just calm down and have a vanilla and NJ went berserk.10

It was Jake Forster-Caskey. Same injury too, shoulder, ( IIRC) how weird is that? That game was a disaster. They were kicking lumps out of Gallagher too.golfaddick said:

I’m surprised to learn Sam Field is still only 27. Very young player with us then, played with a maturity that belied his age.

Yeah Fofana would have happened under these rules. The extra 2 hours would probably have got it doneDiebythesword said:

I don't find Apter's recruitment that confusing at all. In Small we had a left-footed defender with pace who terrified defences cutting in but tended to shit the bed when it came to the final ball. He got 3 assists and 2 goals, both with his right foot when he didn't have time to think about the strike. With Apter the plan was obviously to get someone who had the goals and assists in him already and then train the defensive side into him, which is far more Jones' specialty than training attacking play. Apter made a good start, he was putting himself about and working hard. His effort dipped a bit defensively though and then he had a few games where he didn't leave his foot in, didn't bother chasing back and let players ghost past him. Jones hates that, McIntyre was allowed to make two mistakes - daft handball against Northampton, terrible missed tackle against Lincoln - and was never seen again. Apter had a poor game defensively at QPR, wasted possession when we were in the ascendancy against Millwall, didn't offer much against Hull and then bottled too many challenges against Saints. He's a long term project but I hope Jones gives him some more opportunities this season. Apter is an exciting player, he just has to be willing to learn the defensive side of the game and he'll become a better player for it. The transfer strategy was clear and he has plenty of time yet to come goodfollett said:I think Apter’s biggest problem was that he just doesn’t fit the system Jones wants to play which is why it’s baffling he was signed. I know he won player of the month but I thought he struggled at the defensive side of being a RWB and was helped massively by having Ramsay to cover him. Thought he really struggled in the Millwall game and it wasn’t a surprise to see Bree come in and replace him from there on in really. Once that happened it was difficult to get him back in the team given the system we play.
TC isnt much better at LWB but we just don’t really have another option there and for me TC does offer more than Apter.Completely baffling bit of recruitment though. Hoping it can still come good for him18 -
He must have been very young then. Still looks older and tougher than Luke Chambers, though.CaptainRobbo said:I've always liked Field.
I do not recognise which club shirt though. Non-league or Scottish, perhaps?1 -
Apter signed on to play football. Being happy to sit around doing bugger all, while less talented players get in the team is what you'd call grown up?Sword65pf said:
Maybe they both need to be grownups and get on with it.cafcfan said:I'll repeat what I said earlier, Apter has had a bust up with Jones and won't play for Charlton again. (Unless Jones goes first presumably.)
I think Apter has every right to be pissed off and to let Jones know it.7 -
