Apter signed on to play football. Being happy to sit around doing bugger all, while less talented players get in the team is what you'd call grown up?Sword65pf said:
Maybe they both need to be grownups and get on with it.cafcfan said:I'll repeat what I said earlier, Apter has had a bust up with Jones and won't play for Charlton again. (Unless Jones goes first presumably.)
I think Apter has every right to be pissed off and to let Jones know it.Depends if he's doing as Jones is asking him thoughIf he's not doing that, and is throwing a strop because he cant get into the team, then its not the attitude of someone you want around. Its easy to say: "bust up / Jones' fault" but there are a lot of blanks in there that we dont knowApter also came through the Youth game, and should know how few do make itSo should also count his blessings0 -
Mmmm well that was a load of bollocks wasn't it !Major said:

He’s a player I inexplicably loved despite the evidence in front of my eyeswolfgang said:

The game where Oztumer showed what he did for Dulwich every week. Obviously much lower level and his physical disadvantages were obvious but at a technical level he was unreal.wolfgang said:

Very strange take on a player not being involved in the squad, for whatever reason we have no idea, but apparently "he's had a bust up with Nathan"...I mean how does anyone really know the reason, but no, come up with this answer as if it's fact...🤷♂️1

Being reported up here in Yorkshire that Barry Bannon is off to Millwall. Horrible git but good signing for Millwall and will help consolidate their playoff position.3

What the grown up thing to do is to knock on the managers door and find out what the manager wants from you and then work hard to deliver that improvement.
The suggestion that players have some sort of right to decide that they are more talented and can then throw their toys out of the pram if they are not picked is quite frankly ridiculous.7 -
I seem to remember that Apter and TC, inverted wingers, were once used as WBs on their proper foot and both had good games. Who against or am I imagining it?
Tyreece was pretty solid vs Chelsea.0 -
As Redknapp once said the players who are playing love you, the rest hate you.7

In this submission i will make 2 points, a) and b), as follows:
a) Quite an interesting, short discussion today on Kerrydalestreet, Celtic fan site, (https://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/january-transfer-window-give-mon-the-players-he-ne-t144108-s8520.html) where they discuss prospects of getting Fofana and Rak-Sakyi in together. An extract is below.
What a great combination they could be for any side. Guess we are out of the hunt for similar (financial?) reasons though Fofana had agreed to come to us before so why not again?
b) Separately, how many loan slots can we fill out of interest?
Every penny is a prisoner with this lot. But they could give everyone a huge lift ahead of Hearts and going into Utrecht by freeing those pennies and saying we're backing the manager, here are another two deals done and dusted. It wouldnt change the underlying problems but it'd quickly help everyone to come together and push us on.Celticbhoy_07 wrote: ↑1:56 PM - TodayHagi Bhoy wrote: ↑1:09 PM - TodayThe issue with guys like Fofana, Asprilla and Rak-Sakyi is that they'll have plenty of options and probably no rush to do anything.
This is something that gets mentioned a lot in windows as some kind of excuse for us not doing much.
You could say well make them an offer they can't refuse but that's probably not the solution either.
Fofana had a chance to come before and chose Charlton. Rak Sakyi was on the verge of joining Swansea last week. So we might need to be patient.
Fofana has spent the last 5 months playing for the team at the bottom of the Turkish league before that he’s been at Burnley and Goztepe. Rak-Sakyi likewise playing for a below average Turkish side and prior to that spells at Sheff Utd & Charlton.
The reason it’s not happening is our reluctance to commit to spending money. Nothing to do with players having better options elsewhere. Pay the money and the wages and they’d have been here a fortnight ago.4 -
Bafflingly the only time we played Oshilaja at RB, very confused.Garrymanilow said:0 -
We played him there a few times. He was there the game before and after but he got injured against Brentford I think. Missed a couple of games, came back in at RB against Wigan where he was back to normal terrible Deji. I think he came on at RWB against Cardiff later in the season as well. By the time he played against Wigan we brought in Matthews who was good in the Championship, especially later in the season when he needed another contract. Bowyer got weirdly into playing him at LB after it worked once and otherwise generally put him at DM where he did less damage than he did at centre back, where he was a friendly-fire wrecking ballDDOUBLEE said:

a lot of the fanbase massively overrate Campbell too. The last sentence could also relate to himNabySarr said:
Agree with this but I also think our fanbase is massively overrating Apter. Classic case of a player becoming better in people’s minds because he’s not playing.LargeAddick said:Apter in particular has been unlucky. If it wasn’t for the fact we haven’t had a LWB since Josh’s injury then Apter would have had a lot more game time. There is definitely a good player in there. We have him on a four year deal and he will prove his worth well before that.I like him but I really don’t think he’s good enough to transform us like most seem to think he is. He was alright against Oxford but in his 2 starts before that he was awful. I think he’s similar to a lot of our players, great in league 1, capable of good moments in the championship but not consistent enough yet to be a key player3 -

He is old, shit and legs have gone. Crap corners and crap free kicks. It's a weird/poor transfer by Millwall. Good.ShootersHillGuru said:Being reported up here in Yorkshire that Barry Bannon is off to Millwall. Horrible git but good signing for Millwall and will help consolidate their playoff position.0 -
I'm watching it now. That striker with the Guinness hair was rather decent, shame he was such a dick in the end.Nicholas said:

No idea why on earth it's in 4:3 as opposed to 16:90
-
Finished it. Forgot it was a 1-1 draw. A very decent first half but typically we allowed the opposition to really push us back second half. Leko got worse as the game went on and Cullen got better. Field was lucky to not be sent off and Taylor as much as it pains me to say it was the best forward we've had in years, Godden the close second... Not sure who is third you have to go back probably to Kermorgant who then nicks the no.1 spot.Dazzler21 said:

I have much stronger memories of the away game vs Forest, LT scoring from a glorious cross from Naby, the only away win I saw in 11 attempts that season!
Such a great result, after the bad run, and underwhelming January business. I really thought that night we'd push on to safety.4 -
You have no idea what conversations took place. Either to persuade him to sign, or since. All I know is, he is a young talent being ignored. I get why he would want a word with the Manager. If he did that, I wonder if said Manager was grown up about it.Redrobo said:

Our most successful manager of recent times used to target young, talented players who were hungry and angry. Sounds like Apter to me. We are trying to move him on if the rumours are true.1
-
Fair enough, that’s a decent analysis of it. I don’t really disagreeGarrymanilow said:
I don't find Apter's recruitment that confusing at all. In Small we had a left-footed defender with pace who terrified defences cutting in but tended to shit the bed when it came to the final ball. He got 3 assists and 2 goals, both with his right foot when he didn't have time to think about the strike. With Apter the plan was obviously to get someone who had the goals and assists in him already and then train the defensive side into him, which is far more Jones' specialty than training attacking play. Apter made a good start, he was putting himself about and working hard. His effort dipped a bit defensively though and then he had a few games where he didn't leave his foot in, didn't bother chasing back and let players ghost past him. Jones hates that, McIntyre was allowed to make two mistakes - daft handball against Northampton, terrible missed tackle against Lincoln - and was never seen again. Apter had a poor game defensively at QPR, wasted possession when we were in the ascendancy against Millwall, didn't offer much against Hull and then bottled too many challenges against Saints. He's a long term project but I hope Jones gives him some more opportunities this season. Apter is an exciting player, he just has to be willing to learn the defensive side of the game and he'll become a better player for it. The transfer strategy was clear and he has plenty of time yet to come goodfollett said:I think Apter’s biggest problem was that he just doesn’t fit the system Jones wants to play which is why it’s baffling he was signed. I know he won player of the month but I thought he struggled at the defensive side of being a RWB and was helped massively by having Ramsay to cover him. Thought he really struggled in the Millwall game and it wasn’t a surprise to see Bree come in and replace him from there on in really. Once that happened it was difficult to get him back in the team given the system we play.
TC isnt much better at LWB but we just don’t really have another option there and for me TC does offer more than Apter.Completely baffling bit of recruitment though. Hoping it can still come good for him2
