It's not good financial business if you buy upper L1 players, hoping they'll step up to the Championship, if they don't. Our biggest signings in the summer were Kelman, Knibbs, Tanto and Apter, and I'm sure that all of them are now worth less than we paid. Possibly significantly less.

Of course that's the gamble a newly promoted side has to take, but you would expect a better hit rate than that. You look at the team that started against Millwall, and none of them started, with only Knibbs missing through injury. Two are completely out of favour.

It sounds very good, investing in players for the future, who we can develop and improve, but the same thing was said about Kirk, DJ, Lavelle etc

We were definitely in the three least attractive destinations this summer alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford.
Oxford have signed a few mate and are picking up because of it as I said the otherday I think they might climb away from trouble
I think if we had made the signings Oxford had made this window, fans would be unhappy that they don’t have Championship experience.

Disappointed we haven't had a sniff of a rumour yet. All this talk of 15 hour days and sleeping at the training ground is waffle
As was Rodwell saying our number 1 target at left back was an untested Left Back returning from injury on loan. Absolute nonsense.

5 days left of arguably one of our most important windows of the last 10-15 years, and so far, none of the signings have shown intent, and it doesn't appear like we will be spending money.

So now I want to know if our owners are willing to spend money, or being poorly advised by Jim Rodwell that we don't need to.
I don’t believe they have the money *to* spend. Will believe it when I see it.

Maybe you have to entice them with money then, can't all be from the bargain basement.. fully appreciate we are far from attractive to a lot of the players though.
I really don’t think we could have spent much more than we have done before it became financially irresponsible and damaging further down the line with FFP, and we don’t want to become one of those clubs. We will probably lose £10m or so this season. Spending a bit more than that as an average gets you in big trouble further down the line

The mistake was probably going for too many fees on players to develop vs no fee but championship experience so higher wages. I think we are trying to address that now with Clarke and Dykes coming in but we need at least a couple more players with that kind of experience at this level if we are to stay up

He was only here 2 months or so, but I'm struggling to think of any other senior players who've been on the bench (so not injured unlike Cory Gibbs) but never played a minute, and have no V number.
Would never have been signed during an open window.

I’m not sure he’d fit through an open window.

It’s 8 days including today. Obviously the next 5 are very important but we do have the weekend to do deal too. Hopefully we aren’t leaving it until deadline day though

Of course, but you have to be REALLY bad/unfit, to not get any minutes in a struggling team, with nobody in your position. Especially when you can use 5 subs now.

Didn’t you read Rousillion’s goodbye.  You don’t find players that can come and build a legacy like that without living, breathing and sleeping your job

None of the players people on here are mentioning or the positions they might feel will mean anything if we cannot fix the left side of our defence. Our midfield and even attackers are forced back to cover that weakness. If we do not categorically solve this problem this week I will lose all confidence in the owners
    PS
    Chambers is not the solution
We need more signings, but it’s far too early to write off Chambers.
He is half fit. We do not have the luxury of getting him fit. Our left side of defence has been broken for three months. He won't help much if he can't play game in and game out.

I’d rather see how quickly he gets fit and how he plays than decide that this loan won’t work out after 45 minutes.

To be fair he had 45mins, people on here usually decide after about 20!😂

If you guys seriously think this half fit kid and Gillesphey together will solve our collapsed left side of defence, then you all need to go into the rose tinted glasses business professionally.

Cost the Nigel's £14m to sign 2 years ago , missed about a year with an ACL.

Not on his own no, I think we need an upgrade on Gillesphey to compete with Bell (when he’s fit) and another upgrade in midfield, and possibly a change in formation as a minimum.

Chambers could be part of that, I’m not saying he definitely will.

    Snippet from Cawley on Apter:

‘…Apter, he has not had a kick in 2026 and the Millwall match was his 14th when he has been a substitute and not come on.’

Imagine buying players from clubs then loaning them back there 6 months later, almost unheard of and yet we might do it with 2 players in one window!

Can we wait until at least one of them actually happens before everyone collectively loses their heads about it?

So - what is the preferred alternative for Tanto and Apter? If Jones doesn't rate them and won't play them, do we just leave them to rot on the bench or worse out of the squad? Surely we'd rather they be playing regularly - and if so, it makes sense for them to do so in environments they are comfortable in and have thrived in.

Clearly the signings haven't panned out the way we / the club would've hoped. But don't compound bad decisions with more bad decisions. Let them go and play, let us use the squad spots on people Jones fancies. I get being annoyed that the signings haven't worked out, but this feels like much ado about nothing.

Birmingham about to spend £7m on a player.
Which shows what we’ve been up against. I’d wager it’s never happened before that 2 of the 3 promoted sides spend like they have. Wednesday’s deduction sort of negates one of them but it’s a reminder that the Championship
    isnt “normal” this season
this is the new normal in the chanpionship can only see it getting more absurd

Don't buy that. There's no way Lincoln, Bradford or Stockport are spending £7m on one player. Cardiff maybe at a push but that seems unlikely too. Birmingham and Wrexham are definite outliers
