  • Looks like that theory someone had about tempting James ward prowse to join us on loan due to location was right….

BREAKING: West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse's move to Burnley is back on 🚨

Talks are advancing between the clubs over a straight loan until the end of the season. It is understood Ward-Prowse could undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.

Not commented much on here as I didn't have any rumours, but you have to laugh.

Last week everyone was complaining about Chambers not having enough experience and that was what we needed in the relegation battle. This week we're complaining about signing an experienced defender, who hasn't even signed yet.
Love the spin you're trying to put on it but let me align you with the facts.

No-one was complaining about Chambet's lack of EXPERIENCE.......they were complaining about his lack of FITNESS. In case you were unaware the reason why he only played 45 mins on Sat was because he had only played 2 games of football this season due to a back injury he sustained last April and therefore he game time has to be "managed". I doubt we'll see him play 90 mins for a good few weeks yet so unless we sign another left footed defender we might be seeing TC at LWB for the next few games.

And the complaints around Coady are that he is slow & not what he need when you are in a relegation battle. Experience us one thing.....being past it is another.
Oh come off it. There were literally loads of comments about Chamber's lack of EXPERIENCE above a league one level

    It's really not a gotcha.

I could complain that my tea is too cold. And the next time someone makes it for me, they fill it with molten lava.

I say, it burns, it burns!

They say oh ffs you wanted a hotter tea now you're complaining.

Likewise if someone says they want an experienced defender, it doesn't mean they want to offer a contract to Steve Bruce.
He's 32 ffs not... erm molten lava?

There was huge expectations on him going into that Wrexham team because they'd just signed him from the prem. He obviously wasn't amazing but I think the stick he got was a bit OTT.

I'm not saying I'm completely thrilled with this potential signing, but I reckon this tea can almost certainly do some kind of job for us, even if it is just as a backup tea that's not as good as it once was.

Let's not write off Conor Coad-tea just yet... I'll get my coat.
So close to a like, until the final paragraph.
  • If we feel bad about Coady imagine how feels having to sign for us!

Coady is 32 and an ex-England international. His legs are unlikely to have ‘gone’ at that age and with that pedigree. How about we give him a bloody chance?
Because fans at his last two clubs have written him off and we have Ramsay, Burke, Gough, Mitchell, and Jones as right footed CBs, but only injured Bell and drowning Macca at LCB.

And I don't think Chambers cut out a single cross in his 45, albeit vs one of the best RW in the league.

We need an LCB.and R/LWB cover.

    No announcement on Coady ?

maybe they are waiting until Friday to announce as a statement signing to lift spirits prior to our drubbing on Saturday!

Oxford taking a gamble on an unproven left footed centre back

This is what annoys me. Every other club in the Championship is creative with their transfers, looking for value, a rough diamond etc.

All we every do is sign middle-old, British players ideally with a link to Luton. The requisite qualities required seem to be they players can't pass or keep the ball, they are just have to be stoppers or workhorses.

My concern is that when NJ does inevitably go in the next 2-4 weeks, the new manager will be looking around asking where is the ability to pass, create or sprint. It's such a poorly constructed squad totally in the image of NJ.

If he does somehow keeps us I'd still want him politely moved on in the summer as this anti-football isn't how we progress up the league.
Seemed to work pretty well in progressing Luton up this league?

If Jones keeps us up he’s done a great job and deserves to go again next summer with hopefully us being able to be a bit more ambitious in our recruitment
IF he does then maybe that's fair.

My own opinion is that even in the 4 years since his 6th place finish with Luton, the league has moved on. I don't see the long ball stuff working over time, and I don't enjoy watching it.

Doesn't mean I'm not grateful to him, but the game doesn't stand still and right now we've been found out and so far don't have an answer.

I appreciate that is really negative and I feel guilty being so but I honestly can’t believe after finally getting out of league one we are potentially sleep walking ourselves straight back there and I’m not sure I could take it

According to Sky Coady is currently on 25k at Wrexham and the clubs are trying to figure out what percentage of his wages we’ll pay. Even if we are paying a quarter that feels a bit pricey for someone that’s meant to be cover. That money could go towards wages for a CM.

I think it is a good cover/back up as I only really see him playing where Lloyd Jones does currently.  It still leaves us a bit lopsided on the left on the basis that Bell has had his season impacted by injuries, and if fit, Bell is preferred as LCB as opposed to LWB, leaving only Chambers as our out an out left sided wide defender.  Bell does an okay job there but if he is filling in at LWB, Gillesphey is our LCB

I like Dykes and Clarke, both have looked up for it since they’ve come in.  I think Chambers could turn out to be sufficient, but it’s a big ask given how young he is still (relatively speaking), and the fact he’s only just returning from injury.  Add to the fact NJ said Clarke needs his minutes managed (I don’t know how many games this means, ie after like 5/6 is he up to speed, plus Burke being made of glass and Bell having had two spells out now, and Coady not kicked a ball since September, it seems like we’re in gambling country.

some of that hasn’t been helped by the injuries, we’ve had to adapt, but the defence now looks a bit patched together in hope rather than built by design.

This is without getting into the midfield three who (regardless of who’s started recently), have looked largely anonymous

Coventry, Docherty and Carey were the preferred three at the start of the season and the three that enjoyed the best run of results, but Docherty now looks out of favour, and the other two positions have been chopped and changed quite a bit in the last few months.  This was always going to be a tough season so I could see players coming in and out and then Knibbs unfortunately gets injured (although I would hardly say he was pulling up trees when starting), but now it feels like we’re trying multiple combos of players and it feels like it’s all a bit finger in the air.

add to the fact Apter and Tanto could go on loan, the word unravelling springs to mind when you look at how our season is unfolding

of course, we’re in a good position given I think many of us would’ve bitten your hand off at 4th from bottom at the start of the season, and we have enough games to still pull away.

My personal opinion is we still need another Central Midfielder that can break up and start play a’la Cullen, Bielik, and a left sided defender be it LCB or LWB

If that’s correct football truly is fucked !!

    £25k a week ? £1.4m a year ? For 5 games at Wrexham ? Crazy

My guess is we'll see a few go out (even if only on loan) and a few come in, including a CM. I don't see Coady joining stopping us from signing a midfielder (whether either are any good though is another thing).

Less than 12 months ago, Coady was playing the full 90 minutes against Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool…

Not proof of anything in the present but you’d hope he can still offer something. It hasn’t worked out for him at Wrexham for whatever reason and hopefully that works to our advantage - because there’s no way he’d be available if he was a regular there.
  • 11 million wasn’t going to make our very average 1 squad competitive for the championship. We had to spread  the outlay and purchase work in progress players. We needed a lot of luck, unity & energy. However, we also needed two or three quality players purchased by the owners. It hasn’t happened and so we are left with players on loan who are unfit or also ran’s. We needed as per Richard Cawley quality upgrades to hit the ground running! My guess and I’d put money on this the owners and their desire for outside investment prior to the window are looking to move on. I wouldn’t blame them! This will be a continual cycle until the Belgium sells the major assets.

I am still trying to get my head around Coady being signed as cover. If Jones is out for a number of games, yes absolutely agree but I still think you may see him in the right sided centre back position currently occupied by Ramsay, based on the fact that, I didn't attend the Millwall game, I was not wearing a Charlton shirt at the time but I still played better than Ramsay and for that matter Burke, all four goals involved those two individuals, and not in a good way either.

Hard to get too excited by the signing of Conor Coady in 2026. I'm slightly amazed he's only 32 to be honest. The only way I can see this being a useful signing is if Lloyd Jones is carrying some knocks like he was this time last season and they've remembered what a mess it made of us when he was out so they've brought in someone who is ok not being first choice, might be a lift in the dressing room and if he does play can organise a defence. We've had some problems even with Jones on the pitch with playing too deep at times and when Jones had to go off against Derby Burke was guilty of letting the defence move all over the shop for Derby's second. If he's playing in the middle, going up for headers and keeping the rest of the defence marshalled - Gillesphey sometimes goes for headers he shouldn't, Ramsay has a real issue with being a yard deeper than he should be and playing people on - then pace isn't the biggest issue. That's a very specific set of circumstances though. I'd like to think we're just making absolutely sure we've got two players for every position this time round and there's more first team focused signings to come. Ramsay/Burke, Jones/Coady, Bell/new signing is acceptable as a back line in terms of depth.
Do so hope you are correct. But its Nathan we are talking about , so no one knows for sure.

We should, only after we’ve sorted out our major probl areas and we’re not doing that. He is shite

We should but it’s strange that we’re willing to pay 12,000+ plus in wages for a backup but took the cheap option when it came to LWB which has been a problem area for us since September.

Definitely London. Have seen a lovely photo of her and shopping. Whilst on her way to work at Charlton.
