Maybe a good sign of things to come 🤞1 -
I’m sorry but that just isn’t true. 3 of the current championship top 6 are also in the bottom 8 for possession this season. Preston, Derby, QPR and Bristol City are also having good seasons and challenging for the play offsThomasOliver3 said:

This is what annoys me. Every other club in the Championship is creative with their transfers, looking for value, a rough diamond etc.
All we every do is sign middle-old, British players ideally with a link to Luton. The requisite qualities required seem to be they players can't pass or keep the ball, they are just have to be stoppers or workhorses.
My concern is that when NJ does inevitably go in the next 2-4 weeks, the new manager will be looking around asking where is the ability to pass, create or sprint. It's such a poorly constructed squad totally in the image of NJ.
If he does somehow keeps us I'd still want him politely moved on in the summer as this anti-football isn't how we progress up the league. If Jones keeps us up he’s done a great job and deserves to go again next summer with hopefully us being able to be a bit more ambitious in our recruitment
My own opinion is that even in the 4 years since his 6th place finish with Luton, the league has moved on. I don't see the long ball stuff working over time, and I don't enjoy watching it.
Doesn't mean I'm not grateful to him, but the game doesn't stand still and right now we've been found out and so far don't have an answer.
If anything the league is moving further away from technical and more towards valuing physical attributes, as teams have realised the physical jump to the premier league is huge and why teams keep coming straight back down
Fair enough if you don’t enjoy watching it or don’t rate Jones anymore, but the style definitely works at this level still6 -
OK, who should we sign then ?thenewbie said:

I think this is interesting, I’m certainly not an expert on football tactics but there has actually been a shift away from tippy tappy possession football in the Premier League back to set pieces, corners , long throws and the long ball.ThomasOliver3 said:

I think our problem is that ( and we have lost the Josh Edwards long throw) we just aren’t as good at Nathan’s preferred tactical approach as we need to be !
I agree its not great to watch but none of us would care if it was working but it isn’t7 -
Did you miss the bit from the Wrexham fans saying he was slow when he played at the start of this season in the Championship ? It took Parky 5 games before he dropped him and supposedly he's not played since.FirenzeAddick said:golfaddick said:
Love the spin you're trying to put on it but let me align you with the facts.Jdredsox said:Not commented much on here as I didn't have any rumours, but you have to laugh.
Last week everyone was complaining about Chambers not having enough experience and that was what we needed in the relegation battle. This week we're complaining about signing an experienced defender, who hasn't even signed yet.
No-one was complaining about Chambet's lack of EXPERIENCE.......they were complaining about his lack of FITNESS. In case you were unaware the reason why he only played 45 mins on Sat was because he had only played 2 games of football this season due to a back injury he sustained last April and therefore he game time has to be "managed". I doubt we'll see him play 90 mins for a good few weeks yet so unless we sign another left footed defender we might be seeing TC at LWB for the next few games.
And the complaints around Coady are that he is slow & not what he need when you are in a relegation battle. Experience us one thing.....being past it is another. If only football & recruitment was as simple as you pretend it to be, you are a master at finding problems but don't ever seem to put forward a reasoned solution? The simple solution to all problems in football, is buy better players. The trouble is every other club has worked that out too, and if you have less money than them its hard to complete. If we could bring in a match fit left back to suit our budget and fit our style of play, I can 100% categorically guarantee that Jones and the board would have done so.Leicester fans context for Coady is in a Championship promotion season and a relegation from the Premier League, very different to ours and the standard/speed of the PL is worlds apart.
And are you telling me that there are no fit left backs in the whole of Europe ? Yes, they might cost a bit of money but thats what it takes to stay in this League. What was it Oscar Wilde said about knowing the price of something & the value of nothing. It will cost more than a couple of million if we get relegated & are stuck in League One for another 5 years.10 -
Why is Coady ‘good’ if back up? The point being made by Wrexham fans is his legs have gone. So doesn’t matter if he’s being used for 20 mins or 90.5

Maybe Jones has an injury and Coady will be first choice?AberystwythAddick said:

It’s an excellent signing .. he can play anywhere in a three which I believe he will along with Jones and Ramsey ( not sure he a starter on form ) .. can see Bell playing LWB and Clarke RWB one thing noticeable will be the height in our back 5 ..ElliotCAFC said:I don't mind him signing to be a leader and emergency cover should several CB's get injured at the same time, but if he's here to improve our defense, I'm suddenly very worried about our ability to bring in good players this week.4 -
There's a big difference in the value of paying 12.5k per week for a player as a back up centre half vs what that 12.5k could potentially get us in someone who is a starter and properly sort out that left hand side (or CM for that matter).9

Wrexham are desperate to get rid because they have too many players signed on in their squad. They’ll be taking a huge hit on his wages1 -
Seem to recall people moaning about us signing Bell, same as they are about Coady, his legs have gone etc. don’t hear them so much now though.Think I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen him play.20

12.5k a week is peanuts in the championship and without a transfer fee... To put it into context, I'm pretty sure Chuks wasn't miles off of that. An experienced head like coady and a bit of leadership as a rotation option is a good signing in my bookAberystwythAddick said:

Luton fans were saying that Bell was over the hill and that Burke would be a Premier League player if it weren't for the injuries.
Bell is outstanding when fit and I've seen nothing of Burke to suggest he's better than average.
I actually think Coady is a solid purchase.11 -
I second this. It was a circa 50/50 split on concerns around fitness and experience.Michaelmon said:

Player/Pundit coming in on 12.5k a week. A bargain!

It's not always about what he says, but how he says it. It always comes across as either misery or pointing out the obvious.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
It's fashionable to have a go at Golfie on here simply because it's Golfie, but quite often he actually does talk sense and if some of his posts were said by others they wouldn't get even half the general derision.TheHerminator said:

Don't need pace......first 5 yards is in your head. Look at Jorge Costa...😉NabySarr said:Coady is only going to be played in the middle of the back 3. It’s where he’s played for anyone else and with his lack of pace you don’t want him on the sides so this isn’t a Gillesphey replacement
If this is a signing that is just Coady sitting on the bench to cover Jones, might come on to see a game out as an extra defensive body, but will be a great presence off the pitch then I think that’s fineCoady was picked for England squads for years purely because of how good he is off the field. On the field he showed at Wrexham that he’s not good enough anymore at this levelIf the plan is to sign Coady and he’s going to play regularly then that is a terrible decision
I feel weird
If you spin it with a tone that is less negative and more an opportunity, or at least not a doom and gloom tone it comes across far less irritatingly.2 -

The more I read the posts about coady and the salary he is going to command, the more I’m convinced that jones is gonna be out for a bit 😕1

I always look for links.
Did Coady play with Lloyd Jones at Liverpool at U21 level? If so they might be mates and understand each others games.3
