Such a lame post.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”
Everyone 3 hours later: “No not those ones”
Of course people can be disappointed when players leave to be replaced by ones from a lower league. I think people were expecting improvements to come in that might re-energize not just the team but the fans as well.
FWIW I think Clarke looks a good signing and I will be interested to see just what NJ expects of Fevrier (is he a winger or a wing back ?) For me Dykes is not an upgrade on any of the strikers we currently have and Coady could be a slow cart horse.

I just think that the way to go, is to add to it, not try and do a total rebuild to fit this system that he is so stubborn with and will continously persist with even when its been completely found out! do something thats out of the box, that will catch opposing managers off guard, BE CREATIVE! keep what youve got try wingers, thats a real roll of the dice not shifting out your big money signings after six months and apparently freezing your captain out of the squad, i think if we dont start picking up in febuary then the crowd will have completly turned on Jones, we as a fanbase can't go through anymore league one it will break us.mart77 said:
I’m not sure it’s a case of praising Jones for some and more a case that some see the current squad as one that doesn’t look capable of keeping us up (whomever you’d like to blame for that). I think some think our best chance of staying up was either sacking Jones or keeping him and giving the squad a fresher look/shake up.CaptainBeefheart said:Not being funny, but how can people be praising Jones for this roll of the dice? It's embarrassing, he's got it wrong from the very start!!! It would be a lot more smart to just bring a couple players in to fit a new system (well not even a new system a similar way of playing in a new formation!!!) instead of having a completely new churn of players come through the door with loads moving out to fit the same system?!?!?!?I really don’t know what’s the right thing to do at the moment but I’m glad we look like we’re trying to do something rather than nothing. I still think we could see 3/4 new faces on top of Coady by this time next week. Whether this will be good enough to keep us up gawd only knows.0 -
Spot on, my thinking too.AFKABartram said:
Not seeking perfection at all, but why are we a low budget Championship club?stoneroses19 said:No offence, but fair few of you need to take a breath and a reality check. We are a low budget Championship side. The constant daily moaning demanding perfection is exhausting to read.I get the frustration has grown ten-fold since Saturday, it was a pathetic and unacceptable display. But moaning about every single thing the club try to do with player recruitment is ridiculous. They bring in young up-and-coming players, you moan we needed experience. They try to bring in experience, you moan they're not fast enough. We are not going to drop millions of pounds this month on the high Championship quality players you want/expect/demand.I get there’s a disparity to clubs with parachute payments, though in many cases they’ll be at full quota budget and aiming to budget reduce not increase. Those are Sheff U, Southampton, Ipswich, Leicester. But I don’t get what was the purpose of billionaires buying a high loss making L1 club if the goal wasn’t to at base be established at mid-Champ level.
Upgrading a no thrills L1 squad to be that was always going to need decent budget, not be bottom of the rung. With projected income in the same district as your Millwall, Pompey, Stoke, Oxford, Hull, Watford, Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn, Sheff W, we should have been competitive in that market.Easy to say when it’s not my money. But I’m not one of the billionaires who bought it. At least with Birmingham’s billionaires and Wrexham’s millionaires I can understand their strategy.0 -
If Lloyd Jones is sold, Im going to call in sick to work and spend the day cryingCallumcafc said:Cawley:
"Been asked about Lloyd Jones ... whether he's gonna be sold, whether he's injured ... that's not stuff I've heard ... you can never say never, I wouldn't want to say categorically but I would be massively surprised if Lloyd Jones was allowed to go anywhere in this window ... that's if Lloyd wants to go, I'm not saying he does"0 -
Coady might not be the last CB to join this window. Hearing a bit more noise this evening about the Kenyan lad. And no that does not mean Lloyd is leaving, he is going no where this window

All of these defenders where are the rumors about midfielders?0

I'm not saying that this isn't true, but you don't drop a player because he is homesick and playing reasonably well. This isn't the whole story.LargeAddick said:
I think this is pretty close to the truth in my opinion.RonnieMoore said:It will do Apter the world of good being back close to his GF and family .. Not targeted at you specifically here Fen mate, as plenty of people do this ridiculous style of post, and it won't be the last time I see it, but it is by far and away the most irritating and irrelevant type of post on here.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”

It is perfectly rational for fans to want signings in, and when the signings don't spark much excitement, share their views on that. It is a discussion forum after all.
To me it's glaringly obvious what this window is all about, and I am not expecting any real exciting signings. If I was a betting man, they'll try and plaster the squad as best they can, with as little they can, and if we manage to defy the odds and stay up, I reckon they'll try and move us on. It's always been about sustainability and surviving within our means, the lack of ambition shows it, all that's been done so far is the very bare minimum for a Championship side.
The fact Jim Rodwell is still employed by the club is a mystery to me as well, gives me hope I can talk my way into a cushty, highly paid job one day just by talking bollocks.2 -
I like Dykes and Clarke signings , the scouser looks like potential , yesterday’s business is as dull/guff as you could expect , hopefully we have some genuine quality coming in that may keep us up.
Such a great opportunity this season and our penny pinching owners have minced around .
If you’re looking to save money don’t bother buying a football club and trying to do it on the cheap cos the likelihood is all you’ll do is lose a lot more .
every time we go up by the play offs we get relegated the following season , this one is looking no different1 -
You know it's desperate times when Nathan Jones has looked to me for advice on which players to sign
https://x.com/i/status/19411182286355702634 -
There's a good possibility that Nathan Jones has Rodwell ,Carter and the rest of the uk board round his little finger, their all on a cushy number, with the money men far away .Football is unlike any other business, very two faced too which would suit Jones and the others,Americans normally in it for the money. Players normally call the manager a wanker behind his back and boss in front of him,the manager calls the board wankers, but Mr Chairman when they meet! Just wondering if anyone had seen or met so called life time fan Gavin Carter before he arrived here. When Mark Huyler was running the club with 1 man and dog ,none of these people were around.2

Hopefully we don't keep our current level as it is abysmal.CB1 said:https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDUdP_Cowkf/?igsh=cTJpOHljenphazcxIf anyone is apprehensive about the signing of Coady, this is going to be his main attribute. A proper leader and someone with bundles of experience.0 -
I think some people really need to take a step back before they moan at almost every signing we make.
If you look back at the Kayne Ramsay thread, pretty much everyone was underwhelmed when he signed and not that fussed. If you look at the Charlie Kirk thread everyone was delighted and thought it was a great signing. There are a few negative comments from when we signed Lloyd Jones.
People thought Dobson was shit after his first couple of games for us. People had never heard of Conor Gallagher when we signed him.
And last but not least this classic when we signed Rak-Sakyi "I'll be very surprised if he starts a game or even gets on as a sub, surely there were better options available AND wtf are we doing Palace's development work for? I do not understand this signing at all."
So the message here is to not get too carried away and see how these players actually do for us first. And before we criticise the board for not spending millions on this player or that player, remember that generally the players we pay money for don't do that well and the ones we least expect are the ones who actually excel.
We spent 10m on players in the summer and probably the best signing so far has been Carey who was free.14 -

Doesn't look great. We needed to improve substantially yet being optimistic, then imo, Dykes and Fevrier may be marginal improvements and that's about it.Callumcafc said:The window effectively so far:
- Dykes in for Olaofe
- Fevrier in for Apter
- Clarke in for Bree
- Chambers in for Edwards (inj)
- Brooks in for AMB
Pretty much my view. On the bright side - The window is still open and both Olaofe and Apter were clearly so far out of favour that they were better off out on loan.
But as it stands, I'm not seeing any real improvement with the replacements. Hopefully I'm wrong but so far it feels like the same idea of hoping league 1 players grow onto the championship, and injured or past-their-best players come good. More hit and hope than the adding of quality we seem to be crying out for. Time will tell...

Bold moves from Jones and the Board. We have a problem. We're sliding towards relegation. They're trying to fix it. Will it work? Only time will tell.

‘Defy the odds and stay up’ is just blatantly not true. We are 5th in the odds to be relegated. We would need to defy the odds TO BE relegated in the bottom 3.Braziliance said:

Yes, it has been completely frustrating football for the last 4 months, but everyone on here is acting like we are rock bottom of the table and guaranteed to go down.We need to change up something to get 6 wins out of of the 18 games and then reconvene in the summer.2 -
Dykes in for OlaofeFevrier in for ApterClarke in for BreeChambers in for EdwardsBrooks in for AMB??? In for KnibbsTanto and Apter, whatever the reasons were effectively dead wood in a squad with limited places that we’d need to free up for an overhaul. Those slots have now become usable options, which is a big improvement imo. I personally think in terms of what we needed - Dykes is a huge upgrade on Tanto.Apter - who knows the real story but I do think he’s one of those players that’s become better and better in people’s minds the longer he’s been left out. People were asking to sign Fevrier in the summer… and now we have. He’s a left-footed powerful runner that can play the Small role.. that seems more usable to me than the luxury of Apter at this moment in time, and we can have a proper look at Apter again in the summer.1

Imagine the consortium model makes injecting cash and changing the budget mid-season pretty difficult.
Just have to try and keep the faith at the moment. As difficult as that is after Millwall.0 -
RWB Ramsay Clarke
RCB Burke Kenyan CB?
CCB Jones Coady
LCB Bell Gillesphey
LWB Chambers Fevrier (Edwards out for the season)
Is this what we’re going for? Depth in every position, no more Ramsay and Bell being CBs as well as WB cover.
It would mean a more attacking left hand side, which doesn’t necessarily work well for TC if he goes back to the hybrid winger/striker role, as he’s better on the left side.

Think that’s generalising a bit , people want signings as Nathan says that are categorically better than we have, so far that hasn’t happened.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”
Everyone 3 hours later: “No not those ones”Dykes is an upgrade on Olaofe.Fevrier for Apter - we haven't seen Fevrier yet so we can't judge.Clarke for Bree - after a good start Bree wasn't that good for us and a lot were calling for him to be sent back. We haven't seen enough of Clarke to judge.Chambers for Edwards - he's played 45 minutes, looked ok and is definitely a better option than a guy who is out injured for the rest of the season.0 -
I guess ultimately my biggest concern is the complete lack of creativity we've got. I know it's a common comment on here about Nathan doesn't do flair players or out and out creators but if I was in Kelman or Goddens shoes I'd be worried about where the chance creation is going to come from.
I'd rather find someone that can pick a pass and move us forward than someone that's got all the analytics stats for distance covered but no real quality on the ball.0
