I rated him when he was here. He's a big lad so has all the physical attributes. A first right to buy at not much money. We will regret not bringing him back.TheHerminator said:

they obviously think he can play league 1 and above.
was loaned to Bromley a couple of times.
Would still have gained the experience and possibly at a higher level sooner.

He needed regular game time to develop and he'd be back up here at best behind Jones, Ramsay, Coady, Clarke and anyone else we bring in.Athletico Charlton said:

I liked him too. He was thrown in a bit early under Holden, along with Asiimwe. I was there at Oxford away when he was brought off before half time - anyone on the pitch could have been taken off - and felt very sorry for him. What a mess we were that day. Good luck to Deji, definitely a good player in there.Athletico Charlton said:

We are two very similar clubs, I can only think it is a playing style choice. Most players want to progress the ball - very few want to lump in and do recovery runs for 90 mins.4 -

Maybe we will address both of those areas in the next few days but I’d be surprised if we bring in better players than those 2I don't think you'd be happy if we paid a fee for Aji Alese though. He's been out all season with a shoulder injury but has managed to pay 46 and 60 minutes in two reserve games this month. He played 3 games at the start of the 24/25 season before being out for 12 games with an ankle injury. He struggled to get back into the side until January where he suffered a shoulder injury that has kept him out for an entire year. 12 Championship appearances, 8 of them starts. His last senior game was on 5th January 2025. The season before that he missed the first 21 games with a thigh injury, made two appearances and then was out for another 11 games with an ankle injury. 8 Championship appearances that season, 5 of them starts (and 4 of those losses). If we go back one more year he missed 5 games with an ankle injury, 3 with a foot injury and 11 with a thigh injury which continued into the following season. 19 games missed through injury, 20 Championship appearances, 17 of which were starts. So across 3 and a half seasons he has made 40 appearances, which is about 11 games a season, with 20 of those coming back in 22/23. He's missed, I believe, about 104 games through injury in that time. He hasn't played in over a year.In fact, with that injury record I'm honestly quite surprised we aren't looking at him14 -

I think NJs plan for the rest of the season is playing 10 CBs in front of a keeper and grind out Eighteen
0-0s, getting us to 50 points and possible safety.

Although I'm not overwhelmed by the signings so far you have to think that if Nathan gets us away from trouble then he's a fecking genius. Only time will tell but it's the midfield that needs help so let's hope someone comes in to make telling passes, do that and Kelman and Godden will thrive.2

Witt the ins and outs so far I don't think the owners have put up much or any extra cash. We will know by Monday if that remains the case. Still feels they are not around for the long term, unlike the owners of Birmingham and Wrexham who have seriously invested to stay up.4

Left back and creative midfielder ?
Unless we fill those positions, we will stay in trouble.
Any rumours ?2 -
Hope not, he’s much better on the right. We need Fevrier on the right so we’ve got a threat from either side, even if it’s mostly from the bench.MarcusH26 said:

We still desperately need another left wing back. Chambers and Fevrier really isn’t good enough and I think we will be trying to add another option2 -
I think the board showing some ambition would translate to the fans. They've asked us to be part of the journey.... but it feels like that message has drifted. Its a shame to see the likes of Ingelsson being linked to sides around us and would be good to see us being active around that sort of deal.No doubt we are shopping in a lower value market. I'd be looking to the likes of Luca Connell at Barnsley who can slot in alongside Coventry. Or Lamine Fanne at Luton, possibly as a short term option for some experience Josh Sheehan. But it seems radio silence apart from Docherty's impending departure.1

If Collins is as athletic as he’s been described he could serve as the left centre back with Fevrier pushing up with Campbell.0
-
I disagree. I think Chambers, Fevrier, Bell and TC are your options there. Fevrier will be preferred on the right and the plan is that Chambers plays almost all of the remaining 18 games.NabySarr said:

Our transfers are a bit weird like that though. Coady and Dykes were trailed in the press for a while but Chambers, Fevrier and Clarke were quite sudden when they arrived. I think we heard about Clarke the day before and didn't hear a peep about Fevrier. Bell was only really mentioned as a possible former Jones player, Carey didn't have any lead-up either. I think Wednesday are leaking everything at the moment to try and create bidding wars and generate as much cash as possible but we could be in for players and not know it, we'll seeFirenzeAddick said:I think the board showing some ambition would translate to the fans. That would be an absolutely baffling plan. Having lost Edwards and then struggled with either playing Bell there and him getting injured, or playing wingers there and us being massively vulnerable on the left hand side for the first half of the season. Why on earth would we risk the exact same happening again and rely on a young player who hasn’t played much senior football and has just come off a long lay off, to stay fit until the end of the season. Would be a crazily silly risk to take when it’s the one thing that’s put us in this situation in the first placeCallumcafc said:

There are doubts whether Fevrier can step up, I’m optimistic he can, but there’s definitely much more chance of that happening if you play him on his best side of the pitch. He’s not a left wing back2 -
The alternative is adding another player who can play there and have five players to cover one position for 18 games. It’s very likely not going to happen.NabySarr said:

The best solution is to find someone like Bell who can play either LCB or LWB and hope their body is less fragile. Players like that are like gold dust thoughCallumcafc said:

Would be sad to see Doc go, even if it is the right move for him and the club.
Whatever you think of his abilities, there’s no denying he gave 100% every time he wore the shirt and is one of very few Charlton captains to lift a trophy at Wembley.Good luck to him if he does go.

In the end its a players ability that's the most important.Valley11 said:Would be sad to see Doc go, even if it is the right move for him and the club.

You can’t just keep adding more and more and more players as insurance policies though. At a certain point you have to look at how many players are on the books and be as comfortable as you can with what you have.NabySarr said:

I think the only way we sign another left footed defender now is if Gillesphey is out the door and we can find someone to cover both positions, like YannTheMann suggested.
Edit: oops sorry it was @fenaddick ‘s suggestion.2
