my first Sunday game at the valley this was due to the 3 day week .I think idea was to save electricity by not having the floodlights on .Admission was by programme due to Sunday trading laws.I don’t remember the score of this one but I do remember we played the return game on a Wednesday afternoon at Gay Meadow

Yes, I was there and a 3-3 draw. We may have been 1-3 down?

That’s right, then everyone said a collective prayer and we eked out a draw.

My recollection of this game is that you had to be a Member to gain admission.  Sunday trading laws did not allow the Club to charge for entry.

    Members got in for free.

Curiously, the cost of membership was identical to the usual admission price.
  • Life was so different.  I can hardly believe that this interview took place in my life time.  Jack Warner (Dixon of Dock Green) was also president of the Sunday Freedom association.

I remember it well, 3-3 as others have said.
I seem to remember walking to the ground and it was quite sunny.
Does anyone recall if it was sunny or am I misremembering?

I think later on you paid for a team sheet/programme which was the same price as normal admission. Think that was still the case in the early 80's.

For at least the first two Sunday home games they made you a member of the “Robins Club” as you went through the turnstiles entitling you to attend the matches.

Here are my two rather grubby Membership Tickets from the matches v Shrewsbury on 03 Feb 1974 and Walsall on 17 Feb 1974.

I seem to recall a van selling food/drink at the top of the East Terrace near the Bartram Gate and the massive bags of crisps. My Dad wouldn't buy me one as it would 'spoil my dinner'. Also remember hearing that immortal cry - 'Peanuts' for the very first time.
