Greenwich Council has granted Troubadour Theatres planning permission for the scheme, which will be built on the eastern side of the Greenwich Peninsula in south-east London.

Split across two 1,500-seat auditoriums (3,000 in total), it will become the capital's biggest theatre by capacity, overtaking the 2,359-seat London Coliseum in the West End. Construction is expected to start in June.

Opening in 2026, Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre will stand at the heart of one of the capital’s most ambitious new cultural districts. It will be home to large-scale, world-class productions and international live entertainment. Designed with unmatched flexibility and cutting-edge technical capability, the twin auditoriums promise extraordinary experiences for audiences and producers alike.

More than just a theatre, this flagship venue continues Troubadour’s mission to reimagine performance spaces for the next generation of live performance. Spacious front-of-house areas, modern facilities and the welcoming atmosphere our audiences know us for will make every visit memorable.

Nine months to build? That sounds a tad ambitious unless it's a glorified tent!
Only there for 10 years as well before being torn down.

They've built a similar thing in Canary Wharf over on the Wood Wharf side, took them even less time I think, it's just a big steel box with stands inside it essentially

sounds like the thing that's currently replacing the Orchard in Dartford - that was knocked up pretty quick

Looks very similar to Magazine on the other side of the peninsula. That took a year to build.

Also has a 10 year lease but I hope it gets extended because it's a great venue
