'The Lennie Lawrence Dinner'
On Sunday, April 26th, the Charlton Athletic Ex-Players' Association will be hosting the 'Lennie Lawrence Dinner' to pay tribute to a true icon.
The Addicks legend, who managed the club between 1982 and 1991, will take part in an exclusive hour-long Q&A hosted by familiar faces from the club, and will be joined by fellow club legend Alan Curbishley alongside other notable names.
Players from Lawrence's unforgettable 1985/86 promotion-winning side, his 1987 Full Members Cup final team and the iconic 1986/87 play-off-winning squad will reunite as VIP guests.
Guests will enjoy a two-course dinner and a live Charlton-themed auction during what promises to be a truly memorable evening.
In recognition of Lawrence's outstanding services to the club, the evening will feature a special tribute in his honour. From next season, one of the club's lounges will be re-named the Lennie Lawrence Lounge.
The Lennie Lawrence Dinner will be held by the Ex-Players' Association and presents a unique opportunity for businesses and individuals to align with Charlton Athletic and celebrate one of the club’s greatest legends.

Great that the club are doing things to honour Lennie, has taken far too long IMHO.
Will be interesting how many attend at the prices advertised.

I hope they sell out for Lennie's sake but at those prices - I'm out.JohnnyH2 said:Great that the club are doing things to honour Lennie, has taken far too long IMHO.

Hope Sir Lennie gets a standing ovation when he's introduced.
St Andrews in '87 was a major part to our future success.10 -
I hope Peter Shirtliff will be there5

£120 is a bit steep where only a two course meal is included…..two course always sounds a bit cheepo/naff.🤔
Just being honest here…..sorry.10 -

Apparently the Ex players association are being charged 5 grand by the host this evening. Personally I will would tell them to poke it and see if the Marriott Hotel in Bexleyheath is available at a cheaper price.
Secondly the minimum age of the person who would remember and witnessing a Lennie Lawrence side is 45.
I would love to go to an evening like this with old players also in attendance but at £120 pounds for a two course meal (Plus whatever you spend on drinks, travel etc) is far too expensive for the likes of myself and friends and family.
These events are marketed at your people in the lounges and the boxes who have the extra revenue to afford to attend these events.A missed opportunity and the club are losing touch with it comes to fan engagement with the vast majority of the Charlton Athletic fan base.19 -
Unfortunately, the charge is from Gather&Gather who had/have exclusivity over the lounges and events spaces!shirty5 said:Apparently the Ex players association are being charged 5 grand by the host this evening. Then hold it elsewhere. When Tracey Leaburn organised the quiz night in aid of prostate cancer back in 2017/2018 it was held at the Marriott in Bexleyheathsammy391 said:

This event really needs to have a two figure price point, IMHO.
There’s plenty of time to find a more suitable venue.5 -
None of the blurb actually says where it's being held.
Of course the logical assumption is at The Valley, but wouldn't you at least put that in with all the nonsense about naming rights, etc?!4 -
Does the £5k include the cost of the food, or is it just the room hire?shirty5 said:Apparently the Ex players association are being charged 5 grand by the host this evening. Personally I will would tell them to poke it and see if the Marriott Hotel in Bexleyheath is available at a cheaper price.0 -
And it was free as the hotel weren't going to get many in on a Monday night anyway. Instead they got 100 plus people buying drinks.shirty5 said:

Which begs the question - do Gather & Gather charge CAFC every home game?cafcfan said:

Well, yes, but suspect it is a contract over the season (seasons?). In the lounges they provide the food, the staff and presumably beverages. So, yes, they do charge.Covered End said:

Now whether there is any adjustment on a match-by-match basis or not I don't know (Club 1905 is not always at capacity) but it would make sense. Any profit for the Club must come from the difference between what they charge us and what they pay to G&G. Less expenses, like fees to the Legends/Charlton staff, etc
Meanwhile, from a conversation I had with a member of G&G staff last Tuesday, I assume they are paid a decent amount more than minimum wage in the lounges.1 -
Not G&G, but another arm of the same Compass Group, advertised for an Assistant Chef for the training ground last week. £45k + pension, private health, full company benefits etc.cafcfan said:Covered End said:

All licensed premises in England and Wales are required by law to provide "free potable water" to their customers upon request.sammy391 said:

They're not charging for the water, they're charging for the person serving it.jimmymelrose said:

The current administration chose to continue outsourcing catering when the contract came up for renewal.
There are arguments for and against outsourcing but I found it odd that we brought retail, admittedly a smaller operation and head count, back in house but left the catering outsourced.
It leaves the club at the mercy of another company and with no flexibility and huge costs for events like this.4 -
I guess the difference with retail is you are open consistent hours for the whole week, all year so can have full time staff. F&B staff will almost exclusively be agency workers and so you’re basically beholden to one third party anyway. The argument then is why not just give the whole thing over to a third party?Henry Irving said:

I think it is brilliant that he is having a lounge named after him. His achievements could arguably surpass those of Curbs and Jimmy Seed, given the circumstances of exile, no money and keeping us in the top flight for 3 seasons. Not to mention that he brought in Alan Curbishley as a player and drew me back into going to matches, even though I was living in Hull at the time.JohnnyH2 said:Great that the club are doing things to honour Lennie, has taken far too long IMHO.

Sadly, I can't stump up the attendance fee, butI hope others can and will honour the man.7
