NJ stated Leaburn was back for Portsmouth so I don’t see how this has anything to do with Miles

Wasn't Ricardo Fuller on a pay as you play when he joined back in the day because of his injury record? Not sure whether Antonio would go for it but it gives him a chance to play and protects the club from potentially high wages. If we could get him on that deal and he could at least match Fuller’s output I think that’d be worthwhile.

A note of caution. I used to be ambidexterous until I broke my arm. After that, I'd lost too much mobility to ever be the same. Yes, it was a bad break, requiring surgery, but it doesn't sound as bad as his leg. He may never be anywhere near the same player as he was. He may never be able to pass a medical ever again...
given some of our recent signings over the years, he'd have a job to fail our medical !

Till the end of the season there probably isn't much to lose from it. He will obviously still have some attributes that made him so successful. A bit of directness and pace off the bench might be a game changer at times in our late charge for the play offs

There is no such thing as "pay as you play"

There are minimum wage levels.  Contracts can be weighted towards appearances but that can prove expensive if they play every week.

Anyway, U21 game this afternoon. Team news should be out at 12.30

It's effectively the same thing, a grand a week for turning up and training, 10k if you start, 2k if you score. (Those are obviously made up figures, please don't pull me apart because of them).

Fair enough, maybe the terminology is a bit outdated and inaccurate, but you’d imagine that’s the kind of structure we’d be looking at, depending on his current fitness levels.

Remembering how we got relegated by a point after Brentford caved into Barnsley 6 years  ago I think anyone coming in that could score a vital goal and make us safe is fine by me. A punt of course but worth it to avoid going down to that dreadful league one.

Dykes is 30, Coady 32.  Antonio is 35, has not played for 14 months following a broken leg and broken down in training at Leicester.  I'm glad it ain't my money.

... mind you, if he gets the goal that keeps us up - what price then?
    Antonio is 36 next month.

Found our he has only been training with us for 2 days, not sure how close or away he is to match fitness
Antonio recently spent a month at Leicester training  with a view to signing for them, but picked up a minor muscle injury (as players typically do after a long spell out).

"He has looked good and has been a good lad to have around as well," Cifuentes told BBC East Midlands Today.

Then In January Cifuentes said, "Michail got a setback in training. It's a small injury. It's a pity. That probably means that we will not be able to continue the process we started," Cifuentes told BBC Radio Leicester.

"The window is open. We're going to try to see what other options are available."

Doesn’t that sort of suggest that a second chance with Charlton would be more financially amenable to agree  I liked the mention of Ricardo Fuller by someone, obviously not the same circumstances but a prime example of what a great goal scorer can bring to a game.

It isn't going to be a three year deal, he is probably desperate to end his career playing. As a top end striker he probably has so much to teach our youngsters.

So he is actually 35…not 35.

An outside chance of going to the World Cup wouldn’t be harmed by playing in a side with others from the same national side if he gets fit and scores goals
  • People saying that by the time he is match fit the season will be over, we don’t need him to be match fit, we need him to be fit for 15 mins to allow us to change things up and bring fresh legs on. Dykes was done at the end on Wednesday. A crippled Antonio will make more of an impact than Kelman off the bench

Part of me hopes Golfie doesn’t reply for a month and then says, no, he’s 36
    Don't give him ideas

Is that true for the Championship?

Or are you really suggesting there is a minimal (relatively) wage agreed plus bonuses?

There is a minimum amount you have to pay professional players. That’s the benefit of having a union

Cawleys substack has mentioned it now.

We have seen what experience can bring so no issue personally with this. Versatile player which can help to shape change. If we brought him in we would Antonio, TC, Fevrier and if you wanted to, you could probably play Chambers as a winger.
  • I'm liking this. Could be decent in the Chuks role of coming off the bench for the last 20 or so but also great for Kelman, Leaburn, Campbell etc to have someone of his quality and experience around the place.
  • This rumour appears to be gathering some momentum.

Seems a strange one if true.  By the time he's match fit the season will be over
I’m sure he’s not completely unfit but agree he’s going to be nowhere near match fit. Assuming he can get there in around six weeks it would make him available for the Bristol City (H) game on April 3rd. That’s seven games and 21 points. God forbid we lose Dykes an/or Leaburn in that run in period because Godden, Kelman and Campbell are imho unlikely to do much damage without a big man next to them. It seems to me that Antonio coming in on a short contract is a reasonable gamble and insurance policy. His experience and apparent all round popularity won’t do any harm either.

Not a Kelman fan then, jeez! I think Kelman will come good
