If he does sign hope it’s on a pay as you play kind of deal really don’t want another Rousillon situation.
Would like to think we’re trying to tie down the likes of Ramsay Edwards Jones Coventry etc instead of putting attention on picking up a 5th striker.
Need to focus on getting Kelman TC Leaburn more championship ready as well instead of finding another reason to not keep them out.
Were 7 points clear w a game in hand we should be safe w or without Antonio
Why on Earth can't it be both? I genuinely can't imagine we've got someone working on the contract situation with existing players who then gets told to stop and sign Antonio instead.

West Ham supporting mate of mine reckons he was way past his best even before the accident. Underwhelmed.
It’s funny because my West Ham mate really rates him!
And mine. Said he always gives 100%
    Mine too

Can't be very ecco using concrete - would've thought they'd be hempcrete or straw bale talks

Antonio could bring solid foundations to Cafc and perm any 4 from Godden, Kelman, Leaburn, Dykes, Campbell and Antonio over the 90+ minutes with two starting and two coming on at the business nitty gritty end of a game.
Michail could be added to the mix, through I don't think this deal is set in stone but he could give Cafc drive and keep us on the road to safety.

As correctly pointed out already by Henry, there is no such thing as pay as you play. What kind of idiot would sign a contract where there’s no pay should the manager decide not to select you. Yes I’m sure given his age and injuries a deal would be structured in a way that reflects his contribution but if he signs he will be on a wage regardless of selection.

As pointed out by many, there are always contracts that weigh heavily on actually playing, so the risk to us will be minimal.

I don't think anyone expects him to earn zero money unless he gets minutes.

In this hypothetical scenario, does he get 2 x £250k for the playoffs (1 x for avoiding relegation and 1 x for reaching playoffs)?

Haven't you been following this thread?
    It's set in concrete.
Maybe if Antonio doesn't get much game time, he can have a go at filling in the potholes in the car park.

Breaking! Sky Sports just elevated the status of talks to titanium!
  • If it’s going to happen and he's had his medical as suggested elsewhere then I guess it’ll now be announced on Monday.

I can always knock up a bit of muck if that would help to get the deal over the line

Trying to surprise Pompey before Tuesday's game.  Nobody has noticed a thing.

Apparently he’s been told he only gets paid if he plays. He was at training today when I went down there. Looks big and strong. Why not take a chance.
That's my employment contract for the past 3 years and I've only had one sickness period, due to testing positive for COVID and the employer wouldn't let me enter any worksite, despite me saying I wanted to come to work!

Prior to that I had 2 sick days in 15 years at my 2 previous employers.

I still work up to 80 hours a week. Maybe Antonio is like me, a knackered 50-something (body) with a shite pension pot, only he's still in his 30s.

The sticking point is the £13.85/hour demand backdated for the time he's already spent training
To be fair you could take out the decimal point, and if he was only being paid per game, that hourly rate would be fine
  • Bloomin' 'eck, this is dragging on like reading War & Peace in a dark room...just sign ffs if your gonna or just f.off, and we can all move on...🤦‍♂️

Have you considered applying to be our new player liaison officer?

Is it a really big pen or was he just small?
Of course if it is a big pen I hope it is one of those that you can click and get a different colour on. They are really neat.

  • Also remember that Jamaica have World Cup play-offs at the end of March, he's bound to want to be up to some sort of match fitness ahead of that, but also if they qualify for the World Cup...he's got even more of an incentive to stake his claim for a spot at the World Cup...last chance for him.

It's a similar situation with Dykes in terms he needs to be playing to secure his World Cup place.

I can't see any downside to this other than maybe limiting minutes to a couple of existing players like Kelman or Godden.

If he's no good, then we've got another Roussillon, but if it works and he scores a few goals, then it could make the last month of the season a little more comfortable.

Interesting read however perhaps we might tone down the car crash / driving jokes. The crash is described as near fatal and resulted in multiple fractures and weeks in hospital. He was stuck in the wreckage for 45 mins and had to be cut out. Not in the slightest bit funny, even as gallows humour.

If we can get him fit and the price is right this could be a good signing, especially given the positions he can play. A bit of a punt though clearly.

Oh dammit. I had £500k playoffs instead of £250k relegation but changed it as my son nearly wet himself when i read him the first post and threatened to join charlton life to troll lol me.

    Revised suggestion

£30k per goal or assist, £200k avoid relegation + £100k playoffs (300 or more minutes required) + £5m promotion

  • I don’t think we can underestimate the impact of character and experience. Antonio should he sign  along with Coady add vast Premier League experience and are both very good characters to have around the training ground and dressing room. We’ve already seen the influence of Coady and I’d expect a similar impact from Antonio. Curbs always thought very carefully about the character traits of his signings and wanted the right type of player rather than just the glitzy. We’re still in a relegation scrap but it’s in our own hands. Equal or out perform Leicester, Blackburn, WBA and even Portsmouth and we’ll be fine Hard to see anything other than the current bottom two remaining there. Players like Coady and Antonio can very much steady the ship and help out the squad enough to get us to safety. Hope he signs.

The longer this goes, the less likely I reckon it is of happening.

Got an overwhelming feeling he'll end up at Wrexham....
