Well done to Southanpton. It was only a few years ago they were in administration in league one, now they are in a champions league place and one of the richest clubs in the world.

The saints are an example to all of what can be achieved if you don't have a moral sense of responsibility.

This list is pony. It is based solely on a club's income. You can have a massive income but if you spend more, then you are poor. It proves nothing. We all know that the majority of clubs in the Premier league are living beyond their means and are not viable businesses, let alone "rich".

Delighted to see that Charlie is still doing something useful.

Someone should tell him though that it's 'Madrid' ... not 'Real'.

No matter.  I'm off to watch Crystal v Aston.

Yeah there's two major Madrid teams so Real is used to disambiguate. Okay you'd still need to disambiguate Real from Valladolid or Sociedad. Alright shut up. Just call them the Falangist scum whatever

That would be Madrid and Atlético then.

Hope Charlie never gets involved with Scottish League 2.  Not sure we're ready for 'The' v 'East'.

This is true but to be fair if you say 'Real' i think 99.9% of people would take that as meaning Madrid.

Same as if you say 'United' everyone thinks of Man U and not Newcastle or Leeds. And if you say 'City' everyone takes it as Man City and no one thinks of Leicester or Bristol.

    Yes, you're right.

That aside, I notice that Port's game was postponed today.

Surely by your reckoning both teams should be known as Madrid
  • Don’t want to get in the way of an enjoyable bit of banter, but I have worked for a Madrid based firm for many years working alongside spaniards here and travelling there regularly. Every Spaniard calls Real Madrid “Madrid” and Atletico Madrid  “Atleti”. I realise we live in the UK but I guess it’s like my West Ham mates who always question talk of United and say “Wot, West Ham? “

If you mean my 'reckoning' ... it's not 'reckoning'.

It's listening to what the teams are called by the fans in Spain.  And 'validated' in very timely fashion by usedtobegood's subsequent post.

Meanwhile, let's enjoy the Club song.

No because in Spain they are known as Madrid and Atletico.

It's just that if you say 'Real' to an English person (and probably most people outside Spain), they'd automatically think of Real Madrid.
