I think sometimes people forget just what the civil rights movement was all about - in reality the political situation nowadays is nothing compared to what the world was like 60-70 years ago.

I remember driving through the deep south a few years ago and it really hit me at an old gas station that kept the old toilet used by the black population at the time, as a reminder of where we have come from. Obviously it was closed now, but essentially it was a manky old shed down by the river, with a sign pointing the way saying 'Coloured's Restroom'.

Honestly cant get my head around why anybody thought that was right.
  • Sad news. The world needs more Jesse Jacksons, particularly at the moment.

Jesse Jackson gave a voice to those that had none. So sad that we've regressed in that respect in recent times.

Ran for president a couple of times too, as an independent.

    RIP.
There was recently rather a good film called ‘The Green Book’ which shed some light on the situation Jackson and others had to endure simply because of melanin.

Don't think that's right. He stood in the Democrat primaries in 1984 and 1988 and did well in both but never stood as an independent.

Excellent film. It certainly was thought provoking and very informative.
