MATCH THREAD : West Bromwich Albion V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 24th February 2026 : KO 19:45
Good evening fellow Addicks…
Another trip up north tonight to The Hawthorns where West Bromwich Albion await, and we must surely travel in good spirit after our very well earnt point at St Mary's last Saturday. I always remember West Bromwich as being a well established Prem side, but now have really fallen from grace of late and currently sit one place and one point outside the drop zone, winless in the last six matches…so, we really need to rub salt into the wound and come home with all three points…
Josh Edwards, Harvey Knibbs and Matty Godden are all sidelined, the Baggies are set to be without Josh Griffiths, Chris Mepham, Tammer Banyand and Karlan Grant.
We've met on 63 previous occasions, winning 22, the Baggies 21 and the remaining 20 ending in draws, Carey's stoppage-time strike earned us a 1-0 victory at The Valley in November 2025., so a great chance to do a double tonight…
Samuel Allison will be the man in the middle tonight.
We will be sporting our red home kit…🙌🙌
TEAM NEWS…Harry Clarke and Miles Leaburn return to the starting line-up this evening they replace Collins Sichenje and Tyreece Campbell, who move to the bench.
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell are expected to start in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
Clarke and Luke Chambers will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coady, captain Greg Docherty and Saturday’s goalscorer Sonny Carey making up a midfield three behind Leaburn and Lyndon Dykes.
Sichenje and Campbell are joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Macaulay Gillesphey, Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello, Luke Berry, Jayden Fevrier and Charlie Kelman.
Charlton: Kaminki; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Clarke, Coady, Docherty (c), Carey, Chambers; Leaburn, Dykes

At least Grant's injury precludes the ex-player curse striking again. We've been diabolical and decent in equal measure recently so a basically competent non thrilling professional win will do nicely please.2

Collins out, Clarke in.

Don't like Dykes and Leaburn up top from the off. Not enough mobility.14

I thought after the Pompey debacle we've gone away from Dykes & Leaburn upfront.
Admittedly Leaburn did well when he came on against Saints last Sat but I'd prefer something different than 2 lumps up front.
And if we are playing Clarke & Chambers as our only real outlet can they please put in some crosses for the front 2 to attack.6 -
Expected side. Hopefully the one with fight and guile turns up!

Big 2 up top again, I think Jones wants that battering ram mentality at times.
Campbell and Fevrier on later to add pace, Sichenje back on the bench to rest.
Saturday will see Coventry start in place of Coady anyway.1 -

I’m not sure why I feel so pessimistic about this, but it might be that I haven’t quite got my head round the idea of West Brom being shit.2
-
Nervous for this one. I would take a draw but we will hopefully be aiming for all three.1
-
They’ve not won in the league in 2026, this feels like one where we need 3 points not “settle for a draw” imo0
-
Got a feeling Miles get a couple of goals tonight he has been playing well and think it might click tonight3
-
Wrong line up for me tbh

It's worked once, let's hope it happens again.LittleAddick said:Don't like Dykes and Leaburn up top from the off. Not enough mobility.3 -
If we get balls in behind for Leaburn and Dykes to run onto, they're physical enough to cause problems but are also both mobile enough for that type of game.0
-
More than not winning, they haven’t led a game since December. Banana skin written all over itstackitsteve said:They’ve not won in the league in 2026, this feels like one where we need 3 points not “settle for a draw” imo7 -
Going for either a 0-0, or a 0-1 to Charlton... First goal as always is so importantNo complaints over the line-up - Just because something didn't work one game, isn't enough to ditch it entirely.1
-
Same lineup as the pompy game..... Let's hope they turn up this time3

Oh dear.
This seems like a job for CAFC: the Charlton Athletic Foundation of Charity.
We're always there for other clubs' moments of need ...8 -
Feels like a tactic. Against the better teams we are expected to sit deeper so TC's pace on the break is essential. Against those around us we aim to get crosses in the box so two big boys. Not sure I agree with the 2nd part but it's clear that's the plan.3

Need to see an improved performance on the Pompey shit show here COYR4

Not a huge fan of the Leaburn and Dykes front pairing. I get it because they are probably our most in form forwards at the moment (although there's not exactly stiff competition) and they have caused some chaos together at times, but it makes us quite one dimensional and we are very one-paced without TC in the side.
Hopefully it works tonight. It's probably more important we don't lose than we win but I hope we don't play with too negative a mentality because that can backfire and a win tonight would be a huge step towards safety.1 -
3 points tonight and I think a large amount of pressure would lift. Wouldn’t by safe by any stretch, but 9 points is a lot of ground to make up for a struggling side.. come on Charlton!!4
-
I'd start with Dykes and Kelman.
Replace them with Leaburn and Campbell after about 60 minutes.
But that's me8 -
Like others have had my reservations about the Dykes-Leaburn combo up top. We've seen it work, but it was at its most effective against Leicester when we were able to get lots of good crosses in. Last few games we've struggled to get the wingbacks involved in attack, so hopefully that changes today.1

Have to go for three points. Good to see Clarke back in the team. Offers more going forwards. Here’s hoping we don’t just lump it centrally up to Leaburn and Dykes all night. Both are better than that and can do more. Get the ball out to the wingbacks early.2

So nervous. Already had too much caffeine (it's 11am here). This is the team I expected, but like all the others I have my reservations about Dykes and Leaburn up front together. Glad Clarke comes back in, I do think that's the right decision. Must not lose. Three points would be delightful but not expected. Watching this one from behind the sofa.0
