Do we have the best set of Charlton songs in living memory?

I'm not sure if I've dreamt this or misremembered but two that I recollect are:

    'We are Charlton from the Valley, we are Charlton from the Valley...' to the tune of Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega, and;

'Tell you Charlton, what I wanna do...is get you out of division 2...' ( or similar) to the tune of Mona By Craig McLachlane.

    A dream, misremembered or fact...?

We must be similar ages as I remember both. And still sing the Charlton words whenever I hear Tom’s Diner

    Oh Kenny Acham Pong

  • I don’t remember any other versions of Van McCoys The Hustle other than
Do do do do do do do do do, do do do do do do Daryl Russell (heard at Huddersfield I think).
    or to Lady Gaga’s paparazzi,
I’m your biggest fan, I’ll follow you around the country. Akpo, Akpo Sodje

There must be someone on here who has the confidence to instruct/lead the crowd in singing VFR more slowly and singing along to Red Red Robin when the teams come out. Isn't there? If not, we're just going to read the same points ad infinitum.

We must get 'The Leopard Sleeps tonight' off the ground if its original we're after - so much potential and BFK is the best we could come up with so far?

We sing the same set of generic songs as every other team.

The only real difference to the norm is VfR which we sing too fast, and Goodbye Horse, which only gets a rare outing

Everything else is widely down by any others.  It’s probably at the least unique it’s ever been rather than most.
I went to see Barnet play Cheltenham a couple of weekends ago when we didn't have a Saturday game and I heard both sets of fans sing the Sway song about one of their players. I heard basically every Charlton song but with the word Barnet in there instead and it was honestly quite depressing. I think the last time we came up with a song that genuinely made me laugh was the Obika song.
The best bit of the Sway chant is imagining it catching on 15 years ago and the Covered End singing…

Johnnie Jackson running down the wing, scoring goals…

Of course back then the flavour of the month was “Johnnie Jackson runs down the wing for me”…

I ask because, as I come from the “‘Peanuts for sixpence’ and ‘Paul Went Went Went’ era, I must say I’ve been proud to hear the range, ingenuity and humour of our fans both home and away.

Classics like the Sonny Carey (which much to my other half’s dismay I sing in as many non football scenarios as possible) will no doubt be copied nationwide and of course the new BFK and ‘In your head’ I believe set us apart.

    What do you think?

    What other clubs compete?

Its ok, mate.... I liked your positivity about the singing 😀

I'm more interested in what this "peanuts for sixpence" song was.  The kids love a bit of retro these days!

I think it is a sorry selection of player songs. I'd much rather have a classic "One Tyreece Campbell" or "Super Tyreece Campbell" than taking a song that was presumably about a Brazilian and not even changing 'samba' to 'reggae'.

Oh Andy Hunt, he plays up front

The Paparazzi Akpo Sodji song still cracks me up to this day. Completely daft.

It shouldn't even be Samba, it's Marimba.

I can remember fans belting out “I was born under the Covered End” to the tune of Lee Marvin’s Wandering Star. It was many, many years ago.
