Had an email claiming that we are scouting Luton's Irish U21 midfielder/defender Keith Keane.

Can't ever see a young Irish midfielder who's played in the conference making it with us : - ) but of more interest is that the scout was meant to be Graham Stuart.

Very unreliable source but was pleased to hear that Stewpot is involved with the Club if it's true.

I can never find out much about our scouts (for FM that is). Only added a few after seeing their names in the programme or on the OS.

I'd imagine we watch a lot of players in League One, Two and the Blue Square Prem, doesn't seem unlikely.

That was the very unreliable source the email mentioned but as I said, "Peter, no point asking me, try Richard" : - )
  • The fact is Luton should never be a conference side and they probably have some good players. Without the points deductions they've had over the last few years they could well have been in league one this year. Think we're going to need to bring in at least two more defenders when we can, especially a centre half.

I won't believe it until it's on the OS

Problem with that is we probably can't afford a fourth centre back if all four are fit. Llera won't get near the team now we're out of the cups unless Sodje or Dailly are injured or suspended.

I think it's more likely we'll sign a centre back on loan if any of the three can't play for more than 2 or 3 games.
  • Saw the Irish U21 youngsters on Friday vs Germany - not sure if Keane was playing but the two stand-out players in green were the two Man Utd kids, not sure of their names but nos 4 & 8. of the rest only the central defenders looked decent.

Maybe Parky will find another Sodje somewhere!
  • Has he got a Brother who can play Centre Half, but possibly do a job at Right back also?

You know what, I think that is an excellent stance to take and one that I shall replicate. so

    Thank you for suggesting it.

Not if it happens in December or after the end of March. They've behaved really well so far, but it only takes a slip and a red card and bang they're out for three games. A couple of the full backs can cover there, but I'd feel safer if we had someone that was a bit taller. None of them are spring chickens either so we're running a little risk.

As someone mentioned Keane can play midfield, but he also plays all across the backline as well. Played a fair few games in the champ as well. Has been their captain and was winning plaudits from their fans in league one and two.

Remember seeing him fill in for Kevin Foley a few years back and was impressed. Foley was a player who was energetic and comptetitive from a very young age; would have quite liked us to sign him. When I saw Keane there wasn't much difference. He has something which most of our players don't have, bloody mindedness and get's on with it fair or foul. Not only that but like a lot of Luton youngsters he seems to have an innate positional awareness, something our youngsters seem to be massively lacking. I'd rather have him in a midfield four than Semedo.

Been picked up by the Mirror looks a handy player especially as he can play anywhere at the back

That's a brave statement. You know more about him than me, but I guess my question is why has a completely skint club not cashed in on him before now, if he's that good.

View on Keane from a Luton ST holder at work:

"excellent, will be gutted if he goes, play centre back, midfield or full back. ROI International as well.

Best Player at the club - little bit injury prone"

at 5'9'' seems small to play CB but look at Chris Perry.

At least Parky is looking at versatile players, something Curbs never did ; - )

Surprised that so few have picked up on Graham Stuart. I was more intrigued by his involvement that the merits or otherwise of Keane.

Sounds damn handy, particularly given our budget constraints.

I recall being told that Kins could play across the back four when he first signed, though not sure I ever saw it.

The best centre back in the world over the early noughties was only 5'10" so height's not necessarily a problem, depending on who he's marking. (With Matt Bailey, for example, it probably wouldn't work).

Denied by Parky (see newshopper article on Mooney might stay) although he does say they've had Luton watched a few times this year.
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite] little bit injury prone

He'll be injured on his debut in January and won't play again this season. You heard it here first.

    Parky deflecting attention hopefully.

Have Luton got any other star players then, as we're clearly watching someone?
  • Another sign of Parky's lack of ambition. Why aren't we scouting players at Premiership level?
