Why dont they just split the divisions in half and make the top half go up and the bottom half go down and be done with it.

That would make some great end of day games for the public, (plus a lot of dead games way before the end) if they want drama and move the money about a bit more fairer.

And the season can finish at the beginning of May and we can all go off for a nice break.

As so many of our fans believe that our poor results are always down to our low budget, i think we should knock playing the games on the head, An have a kind of Apprentice situation where the players and staff have to build a budget. those with most wonga get promoted.

Was happy the way it is, not keen on going down to 8th. Even though would likely be to the benefit of little old no money us.

What was the result of the CAST vote?
    78% against:

     https://www.castrust.org/2026/03/strong-fan-opposition-to-proposed-play-off-changes/

We shared the results with the club before the vote - they thanked us and said they were “interesting and informative”. We don’t know how they voted.

Not sure why so many are against this.

The current play offs are great. 2 legged semi finals and then a final Wembley. We still have all of those things, but we now have an extra round that will make the end of the league season much more exciting and have less dead rubbers

Just look at the league table now, would be a crazy finish to the season for loads of teams trying to get to 8th, most of which will instead play out quite a boring next 2 months instead
I just don’t like the idea that a team that has been consistent through the season and finishes third could lose out to an inconsistent team that finishes 8th and could be say 20 points behind. A reward for failure is how I see it.

The more the yanks put their money in, the more they seem to want to change to their pro sports/TV arrangements. Play-offs are the big money spinner.
What comes next from them? No Relegation? If you want to be in the 'Bigs', you have to stump up Bilions for the Franchise.

No point bemoaning it, it's done. I suppose it will give more clubs a chance of making a few quid by playing more games and keeping interest alive, the downside is player tiredness, a shorter 'close season' and perhaps too many games will cheese fans off and will end up killing the golden goose, excuse the mixed metaphors

Complete disregard for the opinion of fans, or as we’re referred to, ‘legacy fans’. Football is broken. It has been in the PL for some time and now it’s spreading.

Tranmere the only side to vote against it. 4 abstained, 67 in favour.

Trouble is... How many of the 78% will complain if we get promoted from 8th next year?
Its not nice that the owners are completely disregarding our opinion... but the quote "Give them bread and circuses" springs to mind - The owners want to try and make more money, and this is an easier way to achieve it, they also know the fans want to see their side winning and promoted, this too is an easier way to provide it.

    Charlton are pioneers -

    First Sub
    First Playoff winners

Lump on now - this has us finishing 8th and going up written all over it
