The wrong St James Park!
A Spanish football fan who was expecting to watch FC Barcelona play in the Uefa Champions League was left "gutted and embarrassed" after finding himself at the stadium for League One club Exeter City.
Exeter City Football Club said the supporter travelled from London, only to arrive at the wrong St James Park in Exeter, Devon, on Tuesday evening, rather than St James' Park in Newcastle.
The club said it was only when he showed his ticket to staff he realised the error.
Instead, the club gave him a free ticket to Exeter City's League One tie against Lincoln City - which the Grecians lost 0-1.
Meanwhile, about 366 miles (589km) away, FC Barcelona drew 1-1 against Newcastle United.
Adam Spencer, supporter experience officer at Exeter City, said the Barcelona fan was "pretty gutted and a bit embarrassed".
Spencer said the man's English was "not great", but from what the team gathered he had travelled from London.
"My guess is he'd put St James Park in his phone and then just followed the directions from there," he said.
"We sorted him out a ticket and he got to watch a game at the real St James Park."
Spencer said the man was "welcome back anytime".
I know this is not really funny for the chap involved but I couldn't help but chuckle!

No sympathy, how did he not know that Exeter and Newcastle are two different places?0

Schoolboy error.
The Exeter locals use the term' Sid James Park' ... presumably based on the comedic action presented on the pitch ... so there should never be any confusion.0 -
Did he drive or train it?0

I’m saying Exeter made it up. There’s just no way someone gets all the way to Exeter before realising is there.Fortune 82nd Minute said:

It seems pretty far fetched. For starters, assuming he took the train, you don’t get a train to St James Park, you go to either Newcastle or Exeter.0

Not so. Both have a st James park. I can imagine if his English was not good he may have showed his phone and got a disinterested grunt from the railway clerk who then sold him the wrong ticket and pointed him the wrong way. Doubtful though I am still.se9addick said:It seems pretty far fetched. For starters, assuming he took the train, you don’t get a train to St James Park, you go to either Newcastle or Exeter.
