Hm. West Brom and Blackburn winning is quite annoying, makes us getting a point today even more important. I don’t think any of this is ever going to make sense so we just need to keep on picking up points wherever we can to the end
Very true but I also think the consolation is that there are 4-5 teams below us which means with even a couple of them doing well there is always the other side of the coin with teams losing aswell it would take all of them to go on an unpresidented run of great form for it to really matter and as you say we just need to keep chipping away.

Loads of them still to play each other between now and the end of the season.

I think we basically need to keep solid and not go gung ho yet.... because frankly 3-4 draws from our last 8 games and we are safe. Grab one more win and thats basically it regardless.

I’m a big Rovers fan, they can’t bitch slap the scum enough
Apparently the spanners have only won 2 of out of 21 games against Rovers, almost as good as as our record against them.

I think we've done well and nobody has caught us recently... We've got 7 points from 3 games, Oxford the same, West Brom 4 from 3, Blackburn the same, Leicester 3 from 3. Even if Pompey beat Derby on Monday it's only 4 from 3.

I truly believe even if we just went the boring route of parking the bus in a few games then we will end up with a enough points but obviously I'd like to play with a bit more flair.

We seemed to have forgotten that most lifers at the start of the season would've been happy with 4th from bottom....
So long as we avoid the drop and go into the remaining fixtures with more desire than the other team we'll be okay.

Yes some teams did well today but benefited like us recently with playing against 10 men like WBA and Blackburn but these two are still my bets for the drop as potentially their remaining games are horrible but the beauty of this League is club's like Preston have now joined the party and have started to fall apart with only 2 points from a possible 18 and no wins.

Survival this season in any manner would be amazing and we just need to focus on the next game against Norwich who are on a good run of 4 wins out of 4 but we owe them after ruining my Christmas with a dreadful performance.

    Coya!

I think those two Damo mentions, and Watford will be good opportunities to get points of some kind... Cant see them really doing anything now, they'll neither get into the Play-Off fight or go down, they're the furniture of the Championship - Its Norwich, Ipswich and Hull that'll be the really tricky games.
Part of me wouldn't be surprised if you needed a record points tally of about 55-56 points (It would take a lot) to survive the way everyone just keeps managing to grind out some kind of a result and keeping us within distance.
Mate you say others are getting points, but the gap to us hasn’t closed with a lot less games to play, it’s not like other than Oxford anyone is winning loads of games in a row, I see it that they could all just as easily drop points in the coming games.
Those teams below us more likely to get a run of wins than us , the way this squad has to play.
You don't half talk some absolute bollocks

Pompey's next 4 is pretty much make or break for them. Derby on Monday , Jekyll and Hyde QPR next Saturday then Norwich and Oxford over Easter.

Love the spanners saying that the FA don’t want them in the premier league and the officials are doing their upmost to prevent them from doing so.

So. At this point we need 55 points to guarantee safety.

Load of nonsense. I mean, that red card today was atrocious. Truly atrocious. But it’s not some big conspiracy by the FA. Just a really shit ref. There’s plenty at this level unfortunately.

As for Blackburn f***ing Rovers. They are to us what we are to you! Hope they go down.

I can’t believe this is even a conversation on here anymore. No way you’re going down. 50 points will be plenty. You need a couple of draws and I think you’ll be safe. Oxford and Leicester won’t get anywhere near 55 points and if they do the clubs between you and them won’t.

Have people looked at who the clubs below us have had to play?

    It was a dreadful decision.
It was about time something went against you though.

Wouldn’t disagree with that to be honest. We were excellent against Birmingham and Preston a few weeks back but had to ride our luck at times in the last couple of games v hull and Derby respectively. Especially Hull.

We will have to go on one almighty run now to get top two and I just can’t see it. But we’re almost nailed on for top 6 though so that’s progress on last season.

If you get top two you will certainly have deserved it with the games that you still have to play.
I'm relying on either Boro/Ipswich and hopefully Southampton being too strong for you in the play-offs.

Lots of fans on here were cheering on Millwall when they played Portsmouth, another relegation rival for us. So don't see why it'd be any different today

    Never cheer on Millwall ever

It wasn't the ref we had for Portsmouth at home was it? He was ludicrously card happy.

Some of us are still emotionally scarred by 2019/20 - see this post from a couple of years later as to why
We're never safe, as our last Championship season taught us. When lockdown ended we were 22nd on 39 points with Luton on 35 and Barnsley on 34. Hull were in freefall (41) at that point and looked like they'd fall in, but Wigan (41) were looking good again. Middlesbrough (41), Huddersfield (42) and Stoke (42) didn't have many points but would have needed a collapse given the players at their disposal. We went into the restart looking at that table thinking we needed Hull to continue to be terrible and for us to just do better than them. After the first match we were 19th, Hull had fallen in and things were looking alright. One thing was for sure though, and that was Barnsley and Luton had too much to do. Barnsley had been in the relegation zone since September and had never been out (until the last pissing day, thanks Brentford) and Luton were punching. It was all a bit skewed by Wigan's points deduction, as in the end Barnsley didn't actually get enough points to survive without Wigan's owners torpedoing themselves, but I remember reading repeatedly on here as another match passed that Luton or Barnsley were 'gone'. Barnsley actually were gone until injury time of both their last two games. On the last day we needed two of Wigan (v Fulham, 4th), Luton (v Blackburn, 10th) and Barnsley (v Brentford, 3rd) to not win. Unless we won in which case they could do what they wanted. We didn't win. Wigan lost to Fulham, like normal people, and then Luton beat Blackburn 3-2 off the back of two own goals and a penalty, and Barnsley beat Brentford in the final seconds of their match. Brentford actually would have gone up automatically if they'd won, so it's not like they didn't have anything to play for! Brentford at least had the decency to lose the Play-Offs afterwards. After that set of results I decided I would never assume anything about relegation ever again. We're down until we're mathematically not, and even then I'm not convinced.

If Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester both go down this season, it may show irresponsible owners that there are consequences for all the financial shenanigans they have both been involved with for years.
    FFP 2-0 Dodgy Owners.
