That was the same old story as we've seen so many times this season: it wasn't pretty, but we got the job done.

Our goal won't win any Goal of the Season awards, though it was a very good ball whipped in by Katie Bradley: Elisha N'Dow got the flick on at the near post and Amalie Thestrup finished acrobatically inside the 6-yard box. Aside from that we struggled to create chances (for the umpteenth time) and had a stroke of luck when a Sunderland header came off the foot of the post. They also saw a free kick from inside the D go narrowly over the bar, and another curling effort inside the box landed of the roof of the net. Even when they went down to 10, they kept up the pressure, and the final whistle came as a huge relief.

In terms of individual performances, Thestrup got the goal but didn't offer much else (though Gillian Kenney and Emma Bissell didn't do any better), Mary McAteer battled hard and showed flashes of quality without it ever leading to much, and Lucy Fitzgerald had an off day. More positively, I thought Gloria Siber had a great game at right-back, showing real diligence and skill throughout, and Karin Muya successfully got us up the pitch to relieve the pressure when she came on – she did really well at one point to reach a through ball before it crossed the byline and pull it back, only for no one to have anticipated it, allowing Sunderland to clear.

We needed to bounce back after Wednesday, and we did. As we've seen with the men, by this stage of the season all that matters is that you get the points, rather than how you get them. We've ground out results all season, and we'll need to do that a few more times before we can celebrate promotion
Is there no one to replace N`Dow. Her knee is giving her pain not long into the games now, she has been a real trooper to play from the start of the season with that knee trouble.

Agree that she's been a trooper, but we do have options. Lucia Lobato came on for her today, and did a good job in her spell in the side when Kiera Skeels was out. There's Gracie Pearse and Lizzie Waldie (though Karen seems not to have much faith in her despite signing her in January), and Mia Ross can play there if needed.

Have we got to play both Palace and Birmingham?
We only have games left against teams in the top half.

2nd (Birmingham City) and 4th (Bristol City) are at home.

3rd (Crystal Palace) and 6th (Southampton) are away.
Difficult, all do not lose games.
This season though we've been far, far better against the top teams than we have against the no hopers. We drew both our games against Ipswich, drew both against Sheff Utd then drew away at Portsmouth and lost to them at home somehow. Conversely we beat Birmingham away and beat Palace, Bristol City and Southampton at home. Plenty of time to ruin that record but I'd actually rather be playing the better teams based on how this season has gone so far

Dropping Newsham is certainly a bold choice
Ellie Mason had an excellent game at left back and Gloria Siber won player of the match at right back.

That just makes it a bold choice that paid off!

We have got where we are, because we are not vastly superior to our rivals except in defence. But defence is important If you don't concede you don't lose. Yesterday, a draw would have been the fairest result but we kept them out and scored one without having loads of chances. Against Portmouth, their opener was a terrible mistake by the officials as there was a clear foul. We have only let 10 goals in all season and if we continue with that strength, we will be champions. Against that, this is a time when the finishing line is in sight that teams are more edgy and if our superiority has never been that great, it can edge the results in a negative way. Mind you every other side would swap our position for theirs.

Thestrup back in again for some reason as well

Managing to use her heel to get the ball in the net with a Sunderland player with both arms around her.

Big game at Ashton Gate on Sunday, particularly because Newcastle play both Birmingham and Palace this week. I think those are the only remaining games between clubs that can overtake us.  But if no more than 1 club go past us, we go up.

Maximum points for the rest of the top 6:

    50 Birmingham
    46 Palace
    45 Newcastle
    42 Bristol
    39 Southampton

6 needed to guarantee finishing ahead of Palace, but 4 would do if we draw at Selhurst so their maximum would be 44. 4 points also puts us ahead of Newcastle unless they win all 6 of their remaining games.

Ahead of our game at Ashton Gate, it's interesting to note that Bristol City fans don't seem very happy with their manager at the moment

They have a sub-forum for Women's Football?! This is why I would say, Bristol City is a well supported Women's team.

It's only two phases. I assume it's to allow the regulars and season ticket holders a chance to get their usual seats before they go on sale to everybody.

This game should be our highest attendance this season, but it's not going to sell out.

Piece in The Athletic on how London City Lionesses are growing their fanbase, including the quote "“We should be winning the fandom of every girl that loves football in Kent”. Shows what we're up against - I hope we've got some creative ideas for how we can build our fanbase, especially if we're in the WSL next season.

Meanwhile I am still waiting for a reply from the club despite trying to create these sorts of links with our grassroots girls club in Medway. I just don't get it.  Edited to add, I'm likely to accept that we're going to explore this with LCL now instead. I've been holding off because their program at LCL is engaging with a lot of teams in Kent and I wanted us to be more first in the door rather than just another team who are part of a sister club program. Plus of course I'm a Charlton fan. But the reality is I've sent almost 20 messages across various methods, been told I'm forwarded to one person, then another person. I've either been ignored or just waited and waited for a reply which doesn't come. Thanks to @Weegie Addick for all of her help as well.

So sorry we haven’t got anywhere @blackheathaddick -not for lack of trying on your part.

It’s frustrating to see that LCL are so ahead of the game. If we can get promoted to WSL it’s a superb and massive achievement- but does totally pile on the pressure around building the support base amid pretty fierce competition and investment. There’s good intent at CAWFC I think but lacking the resource to execute right now.

That is why they are sucking up to Millwall to play at the Den.

Why call yourselves London City and just play in South East London?

Playing in White City at least makes sense.

Newcastle 1 up at home to Birmingham currently. Doesn't change the points needed for promotion but points needed for the title would drop to 7.

Newcastle win 2-0. Good result for us. Though does mean we can't get promoted at Bristol City on Sunday as Newcastle play Palace on the same day and whatever our result one of them will still be able to catch us.

Win though and we're guaranteed at least a playoff place.

Yes, they do. And that team are reportedly massively hacked off that Lionesses were allowed to nominate the Den as their back-up venue to use if Bromley wasn't available. This game got moved to the Saturday due to Chelsea's fixture commitments so Bromley wasn't available. I believe Millwall have told them they need to find a new backup ground, so if anyone has a burning desire to see Not-Millwall playing at Millwall, this will be your only chance.

Millwall Lionesses played Dulwich at The Den at the end of the season a couple of years back. Agree it’s mad (from a Millwall perspective) having LCL playing there, though.
