It was a poor quality game with no real efforts on goal save the two penalties and the one off our line. Their penalty shouldn't have been given, ours should, a point is fine though, particularly after our two recent wins. 5 more points should do us.
Beautiful sunny day and the punting on the river, visiting Radcliffe Square, Blackwells book shop and Mansfield College were the highlights. I had hoped to inspire my boy, but he still prefers Roblox to study.2 -

Agreed, well done blackburn and in particular, jorgenson and the ref. Looks like their next couple of games are away to middlesbrough and ipswich, then norwich - 3 very tough games - could be looking at clinging on to a play off place rather than automatics - fingers crossed.paulsturgess said:

Lost at home to Portsmouth and Blackburn.
Hope they lose the PO semi to a dodgy last minute pen at home.

You have personal issues with 'Millwall fan' and it shows big time but I find him quite engaging and I enjoy the banter that he brings to CL. Millwall fan, slags off Charlton rarely compared to some regular posters who say they are 'supporters' but are mainly critics.
As someone who was taken to the den as a youngster by my Dad who was born in Bermondsey but who lived in Charlton for a couple of years and supported both teams (how bizarre!) can you imagine a joint Charlton/Millwall scarf any more than you would see a Celtic/Rangers scarf !!!
Having a token fan from other clubs who visit CL is no problem other than the Palace fan from a few years ago who couldn't 'read the room'; David Sylvian from memory.
After the 2-1 defeat at the New Den after being 1-0 up with 10 men on 'bad Friday' and the 3-1 defeat the following season I quit going to the den as I can't take the utter desolation I feel at losing there. Brave souls who went this season while I just watched on Sky and suffered but at least I wasn't kept in for 30 minutes afterwards !

The end justifying the means? Not sure. I was watching it with my mate who is a Derby fan - although he has a soft spot for the Addicks was less emotionally involved than me.
We were both underwhelmed with the performance of both teams tbh. Up until their pen, it looked like neither team had the guile to carve out any real chances from open play.
I felt we could and should have done more. It felt like a must not lose game (arguably because of our win against Boro' it became a bonus opportunity to win). In the end, it was a point that was better for us than it was for Oxford.
My mates view, which I shared was that both were pens - the Oxford one softer and could have been missed. Both were also unnecessary to have conceded.
Given we generally don't win the "possession" stats, it was surprising that we had so much of the ball but were virtually unable to play around or through them. That was clearly driven in some part by Oxford's tactical set up.
Jones claimed post match that the players did not execute his plan - maybe that was true. Certainly, even in this season of a lack of goals scored, it's hard to believe that he could deliberately have set them up to have zero shots in the first half and virtually nothing - bar the penalty in the second half.
Stand out performers for me
Mannion - commanded his area and safe handling
Lloyd Jones - goalline clearance and won the penalty
Docherty - put in a real shift
Leaburn - worked really hard to hold up play.
All in all not our best performance but a point was just about deserved and kept Oxford from getting any closer to us1 -
ours was a clear pen...the thing about the Ramsey challenge, yes that happens at every single corner in a mentally crowded area, Ramsey and their player were pretty isolated and it was a ridiculous challenge that simply didn't need to be made as the cross was floating into the keepers arms. Even without him nudging him over he's never getting there.letthegoodtimesroll said:I thought ours was a clear, nailed on penalty offence when I saw it live on tv. I still can’t say the same about the Ramsay ‘bump’ being a penalty offence even after seeing it replayed multiple times. To me it just looks like he got played by a player who had missed his chance of getting anywhere near the ball
Stupid from Ramsey and made it very easy for the ref3 -
I heard the interview with Louis and I understand Nathan wasn't that well Saturday, like Dykes but what did he say to the boys at HT because we were worse 2nd half until Oxford did the retreat back towards their own goal and gifted Cafc a penalty at the death.
I know the 1st half was like watching paint dry but at least when we played passive we had possession and Oxford unlike their last 3 games were befuddled.
At HT, I thought Nathan would say you have bored everyone to sleep but negated Oxford so now find some urgency and kick on because there are 3 points on offer so let's get shots on their goal and go up a couple of gears.
Did that happen ? They didn't listen if he did say the above!

My first away game this season and it wasn't exactly a cracker!
Let's be honest two poor teams on the day with very little football played. I said at the start of the season as long as we stay up I'm happy and I stand by that so if this is how we are going to get over the line then so be it. NJ himself admits he wants to see more quality in the final third and that's only going to come if we spend some money nobody can surely be saying a front line of TC and Leaburn is going to help us progress?
Their penalty seemed harsh and after watching the replay I'm still of that opinion. The forward was never going to get the ball that was played in and it looks like a pretty routine shoulder barge. Our penalty was more clear cut but again I've seen them not given although the fella was pretty much hanging off of Jones' shirt!
Another six points out of our last eight games and I'll feel comfortable. COYR

There was a lot of talk earlier this season about how we were mirroring the 19/20 season. The great start, the injuries derailing our season then leading to a relegation scrap.Callumcafc said:We are in 18th.
We are six points below 8th position.
We are six points above 19th position.
There's every chance that this season could mirror 12/13 if we can finish the last 8 games strongly, we were struggling down the bottom that season too whilst never quite being in the relegation zone, eventually things clicked, we lost 1 of our last 11 that season (to you know who) and pulled away to finish 9th.2 -
Something I haven't seen mention is the long delay between our penalty being given and it being taken .
I reckon it was a bit of theatrics and mind games from the Oxford keeper (an old team mate of Kelmans) but fairplay he tucked it away nicely .
At the match I didn't think it was as clean a strike as the tv footage shows it was4 -
Easy with hindsight, and that's not aimed at you by the way mate, but dammed if he did, dammed if he didn't and the ball ended in the net, agree a silly challenge which the guy made the most off, but not a pen in my eyes...Elthamaddick said:

The way our day was going, I was just waiting for Kelman to miss or the keeper scramble a save, as it turned out, I should have known better...😉oohaahmortimer said:Something I haven't seen mention is the long delay between our penalty being given and it being taken .

Enjoyable day out with good company but I won’t miss the Kassam when it’s gone. Middle of nowhere, car park exit is horrendous and Frankie & Benny’s before and after game is just a different away days experience.
Football is joyful when you get a late goal that impacts the result and everyone left there happy. We are a tough turgid watch at times though; most of us are lifetime committed fans that follow through thick and thin, but I do wonder of our ability to retain the interest of new fans or attract future ones.Keep nudging that points total up, job nearly done for a successful outcome. Will look forward to the summer break though9 -
It had been 675 days since Oxford United were last awarded a penalty when the referee pointed to the spot at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.
The last time the U's won a spot kick, Des Buckingham was manager, Rishi Sunak was prime minister and Italy were the reigning European champions.
But Saturday's penalty didn't just end a run stretching back almost two years, it also meant one United fan could finally shave - having vowed he wouldn't until his team were awarded one.

I can see that. Also, for an out of town stadium, it has some of the worst parking and traffic you could imagine.killerandflash said:
The Kassam is unpopular for its remote location, and being only 3 sided (with big gaps between the stands as well). It won't be missed when the replacement ground next to Oxford Parkway station is built.AllezAllez said:Couldn’t get a ticket in the away section so had to sit with the home support with a friend who is a U’s fan.Beautiful day weather-wise but the football was grim. Not surprising given that both teams aren’t known for their attack but the ball barely touched the pitch in the first 15 minutes and we finished the half with an xG of 0.Not much to add but thought that Mannion did well and almost stopped the well-placed pen. Also, loved the calm way that Lloyd Jones waited to get himself into position before clearing the shot that was going into the goal. The travelling support were great, made a lot of noise. Was a bit worried that I’d not be able to stop myself celebrating but there wasn’t much opportunity for that!First time at the Kassam, was better than I had been led to believe. Liked the way that their whole support joins in the singing around the ground, different from The Valley where it’s more sporadic. That said, I had no idea why they were getting so aggrieved at the referee and at Charlton’s players. They all started booing and jeering after Conor Coventry fell to the ground after getting the ball to his face at high speed. I think the impact would have dropped Marvin Hagler so not sure why they were complaining!
They are moving to a new ground on the other side of the city in a couple of seasons- hopefully it’ll be a happier hunting ground for us!
Indeed, the Kassam falls very high up my "great towns/cities with poor grounds" list.1 -
It was a long time ago, although I recall the atmosphere at the den was quite intimidating, opposing players where verbally abused quite loudly,I dont remember too much of an away support ,there was no segregation then, so opposing fans may not have fancied it.At Charlton opposing fans came and mingled in,often taking over large swathes of the ground without really causing any problems, police presence was minimal when Everton once came for an FA cup match they literally occupied the whole south terrace.SporadicAddick said:thickandthin63 said:
