Sorry I took your post the wrong way Jose.

You are essentially a contributor who improves the experience of being a Charltonian.
My post wasn’t attacking you, but pointing our alternatives available on match days.
    No need to apologise.

I've always fancied doing hospitality at Charlton but every time I talk to someone's who done it, they don't have many positive things to say.
The best bit is the social thing, you make mates with other people you’d never normally meet or make, and you all have a shared interest.

I guess it depends on whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert.

A pal of mine is an oxford fan .Two years ago we paid for hospitality for the oxford charlton game in league one. £75 per head nice meal good seats.

This year we were charged£192 for a breakfast and same seats .

The hospitality "suite " was a dark dingy room with no natural light.

A bigger ripoff I cannot imagine.Anyone else experienced poor quality\value for money hospitality?

I was in the Corporate seats in the Olympic stadium in Barcelona for Andorra v England 2007.  One of Mclarens last games I think and we won 3-9 after being 0-0 at half time.

The seats were dreadful, it rained like crazy and wasn't well covered so those cheap plastic ponchos were handed out, and at half time we went downstairs to get our alcohol free larger (only choice) and defrosted nibbles (yuck!).

When we came back up, the regular England fans had hoped over the small walls and taken half the Corporate seats.

My client asked one to move against my advice and was told firmly to fuck off 🤣.

Thankfully I worked for one of England's Sponsors at the time so it didn't come out of my pocket.

Still, the twelve goals in the second half must have made up for it.

Well now you've really put me off.
  • Please don’t take it personally but if you’re paying £200 for a lunchtime Oxford v Charlton game with a bit of brekkie thrown in then I’ve not got much sympathy for you!
Typical City chap response to budget price brunch and match ticket 😁

Did the Club 1905 thing for the women's match against Pompey last Wednesday - only £7 extra on top of a ST to get access to the bar and the directors' box seating. Seemed like a good thing to do for a night game.

The beer wasn't all that, and we didn't have the food (and obviously the match was awful) but it was nice to be able to retreat to the bar and watch the men win at Boro, and the host chap was very friendly and funny. In fact, everyone was very nice.

In all truth, it wasn't a million miles from being in a non-league club bar when you get to see the players after (and it was funny to see the security guy having to be reassured that yes, that was Karen Hills' pint of Peroni being taken downstairs), but it was fun. May do it again before the season's up.

Ooops!  Now corrected.  If only there had been 12!

  • I am fortunate enough to have done quite a bit of hospitality through work.(So never paid myself for it).

Wembley (Spurs beating Madrid a good one), and Arsenal the two best, Spurs old ground one of the worst.

For the 2 x Charlton ones I have done... Once I paid by memory £200-300 per head to take a Jewish client v QPR in 2019 I guess.  Despite me filling out a dietary requirements form, they served him sausage rolls and pork pies at half time.  Not great !

The other time I was a guest on the owners table when Jiminez and Slater were around, as a client played 5 a side with Slater.

I sat next to Jiminez who told me recruitment was quite easy, looking for the unloved with huge potential; as an example he said that Danny Hayes was going to be every bit as good as Theo Walcott.  I remember thinking then it would not likely end well.

I’ve been to hospitality this season for Charlton at Derby away and Carlisle v Scunthorpe - both due to personal reasons - the first in memory of a good friend and Derby fan who passed away last year, the second a big birthday treat for our Carlisle supporting nephew. In both cases we went for the premium experience at c £300pp at Derby, £150pp Carlisle - prices quoted up front by the clubs including VAT.

Both were really good experiences- small lounges, smartly set up, decent food. At Derby it was a 442 menu - choice of four starters, four mains, two desert, plus cheese. Glass of champagne on arrival then other alcoholic drinks extra. Carlisle only offered a choice of main course with set starter and dessert, though coped with dietary without a murmur. Drinks included until post match. Good seats in directors’ box for both and easy/ quick trip back to lounge at half time. Carlisle included a brief pre match Q&A with a current (injured) player. Derby was pushing it a bit on cost / VFM whereas Carlisle felt v good VFM considering how much we drank!

The thing that helped enormously for both were genuinely welcoming and hospitable staff, from the car park at Derby through the entrance and topped off by professional, efficient and friendly table service in the lounge.

For many years we would treat ourselves once a season to a hospitality upgrade at CAFC. For one of my own big birthdays c 12 years ago we sponsored a match and took a table of 10. That was really good fun and I got a hug from SCP and presented an underage Jordan Cousins with a magnum of champagne for man of the match! Got out of the habit in the Duchatelet years when I cut back on spend. Last season we had a dire experience in the Vista Lounge as part of player sponsorship package. They couldn’t even serve a bottle of wine and the place was soulless and nothing at all felt special. Didn’t help it was the Crawley match! A few years back we were drawn for the VG Exec Box in Curbs Stand and I was glad we weren’t paying for it - really poor amateur service and very basic offering.

I’ll be interested to see what we do to improve the CAFC hospitality experience for next season. Undoubtedly we have slipped behind other clubs and from my recent experience at Carlisle we can’t just use the excuse of the division we’re in. It’s a discretionary purchase and probably doesn’t stack up on a straight value for money calculation - you could go out for a nice meal in Greenwich or Blackheath for the money instead. So to make it attractive and worthwhile it has to be the whole package with the service a very big part of that.

It’s certainly not only about corporate. A big trend in event hospitality eg at golf, tennis, gigs is people treating themselves for special occasions or prepared to upgrade for a bit of exclusivity.

Maybe we’ll find a reason to give it a go again at The Valley next season.

Weegie, I’m not saying the food in the Vice Presidents is better, but do give it a try, if not even for the food, people are very friendly, and we are all laughing, but mainly crying about Charlton.

done a fair bit of corporate hospitality through work and very much varying degrees of enjoyment.

Chelsea was excellent, as was Ipswich - the box/stand was a bit dated, but the food/beer was fine and I love Portman Road - proper cracking stadium and really enjoyed it, was a night game against Bristol City and they won 3-2 with a late goal. Nice to not give a stuff about the result at the time

I’ve done a fair amount of hospitality when I was in the corporate world, enjoyed it all (cricket was so good, all day eating and drinking).
Newcastle my favourite, also been to Chelsea, Spurs, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich (Sat next to Steve Bruce, lovely guy), Norwich, Peterborough (weird), Aston Villa and WBA.

Never used hospitality at Charlton, as I’ve only been a paying adult for over 35 years.
I have emailed the club at least six times this season and tried calling once, got cut off. I’ve got a dairy allergy, but I’m not fussy when it comes to food, will eat anything as long as no dairy. Just wanted to ask if they cater for allergens, but I’ve given up. Everytime they send out yet another survey, I put it down in writing…

Maybe next season, although I enjoy my lunch in the Pilot.
  • My group would do hospitality at Charlton once a year, usually in the run up to Christmas. Alas, we gave up a few years ago. You would definitely put us in the bracket of "here's my wallet, Charlton, take my money" fans yet it's rather telling that for my 50th and my pal's 70th this season, despite previously celebrating at the Valley, we've both opted to celebrate at the Plume at Maze Hill instead. They look after us really well and the grub is excellent.

I'd happily use the Valley hospitality again if I hear of improvements. I was extremely fortunate to come out of the Valley Gold hat twice last season for the executive boxes. The first was against Stevenage for a lunchtime kick off and the supposed gammon and eggs was a lukewarm disgrace, even at no cost. However when I was pulled out again for the Northampton game we were upgraded to a West Stand box where the food was actually really decent. I believe this was because it didn't have to get wheeled around to the Curbs Stand where it congeals en route.

I'm also lucky to have a pal with Number 9 Club access at Wembley so 3 or 4 times he's taken me along for England games and of course the grub is exceptional and plentiful.

Sadly, yet another reason to bemoan the lack of communication between club & supporters.

A multitude of issues discussed by numerous " fan groups" en route to the Board allegedly to bring the two closer together.....

..when examination of the poor levels of communication migh go a long way towards "customer satisfaction ".

Or would that open a whole new can of worms that "they" wish to keep shut ?

Andy Peterson lived next door to my dads mate in Luton, when he moved to us he sorted us passes and tickets every week. I was only 11, was amazing being around all the players.
