Championship Games 25/26

With Pompey we have to see where they are after the Oxford game. If they don't do well enough in the next three games, their run in starts to look very tough.0
-
I’ve never really disliked Leicester, but I do think it’s really important that they go down, because if they don’t, they’ll have effectively got away with their cheating again.
They've previously escaped one punishment on a technicality, so if they end up staying up despite the somewhat underwhelming 6 point penalty, they’ll be in the clear again with no real consequence.Just seems like they keep getting away with it, which doesn’t sit well with me.20 -
Pompey,Blackburn are on decline - as their supporters admit , so will be down there again next season, along with the likes of Oxford (if they survive), plus teams like Lincoln,Cardiff,Bradford etc and there is always one club that does a Luton,Leicester (Wolves maybe).killerandflash said:Leicester are such a mess, that it's hard to predict what they'd be like next season if they stay up.
I'd expect Pompey, Blackburn and WBA to be similar next season, and Oxford to still be weak, as their financial priority has to be their new stadium.
For us, i'd be looking at a consolidation year, in 10th-14th and then push for a playoff place the following year.
Considering EVRYONE had us as relegation fodder at beginning of season, it will be interesting to see what the same pundits believe come August.1 -
I reckon we have three more wins and a couple of draws in us to see out the season. My tips to fill the remaining two relegation spots are Portsmouth and Blackburn1

Apart from Oxford at home, that's a hard set of fixtures.
Their saving grace may be their two 6-pointers, both at home (Oxford, Leicester) .....providing they win them, of course
Plus they've each got two 6-pointers to play - and they all play Sheff Weds.
Watch out for the surprise results, (like Blackburn at Millwall, last weekend).
And of course, picking up points against mid-table teams already on the beach 🏖️
But especially when they play each other - they can't both win. Or lose
These 6-pointer games will be key.
And there's quite a few of them.
Nothing can be taken for granted in this division and taking your eye off the ball just invites failure.

is there anything to suggest that we will be any different from this year?Zulu said:

Be good to get above Preston and be all smug at Thierry Small.12
-
Quite funny to see Preston odds after so many of their fans had a pop at little old Charlton compared to seasoned Championship Preston when they signed Small from us.3

I’d love us to finish above Swansea after Galbraith turned us down over the summer8

I mean exactly the same as this year looks like meaning surviving by a healthy margin despite some poor patches of form. That really wouldn't be a terrible thing to replicate (if it means avoiding/surviving "second season syndrome") although of course we SHOULD be aiming higher.SporadicAddick said:

I don't think that's very likely to be honest.FishCostaFortune said:I’d love us to finish above Swansea after Galbraith turned us down over the summer2 -
Leicester and then one of Portsmouth/West Brom to get relegated would be the best case scenarioBlackburn are run by crooks, who have shown they have no ambition to take the club forward and Oxford are a small club with a poor budget, an average manager and half their teams made of loans. If We want to do better a worse standard/competition will help support that.3

Footballer made a choice that wasn't us. Not sure why anyone would hold some sort of grudge.FishCostaFortune said:I’d love us to finish above Swansea after Galbraith turned us down over the summer8 -
Even if we finish above them, if he's watched our brand of non-football this season, I'm sure he'd still feel like he made the right choice.Talal said:

I think he means on this forum, not within your fanbase. I, for example, was saying I think (and still do) that you will be in the Prem next season.0 -
Easy way to deal with that, just kick the ball back to the opposition every time we get it!Chris_from_Sidcup said:
They're a strange team though. Obviously they are terrible but for their points total it's not like they get battered 4-0 every week. 20 of their 28 defeats have been by 1 or 2 goals, and they've managed draws at home to QPR, Norwich, Hull, Blackburn, Watford. In recent home games they led v Millwall, were a minute away from beating Watford and held Ipswich for 78 minutes last weekend.arny23394 said:
They’ve lost 28 of their 38 games this season, only winning 1 of them. They are as close to a guaranteed 3 points as you could ever wish forDamoNorthStand said:Just shows Shef Weds are not the bye some were making it out to be
It would be absolutely typical Charlton if we went there and handed them their only home win of the season. It's also a game in which we're likely to have most of the possession and typically that is when we tend to struggle.

It's not a grudge - I don't spend every (or any) second of my waking life throwing darts at my Galbraith shrine in my house. I didn't even think about it, until people were mentioning about finishing above Preston.Talal said:

having watched them at Wrexham Friday night, he's a special talent - hadn't really seen him before but I'm now gutted we don't have him, a proper player who would make a huge difference to our midfieldFishCostaFortune said:I’d love us to finish above Swansea after Galbraith turned us down over the summer5 -
Ok cool. Guess I saw 'love' which is generally quite a strong emotion and thought you cared about it.FishCostaFortune said:

That is fair enough. Maybe we need to start colour coding our writing to reflect how passionate we feel about a certain topic.Talal said:

He does look good for them, but I wonder how much of that is down to how they play. if you dropped him into our team, he wouldnt look half as good. Someone like Sonny Carey is probably much more a NJ type player, although it will be interesting to see if we look to evolve our style of play in the summer.Elthamaddick said:

He's a better player than JRC but that's where the comparison is. I imagine JRC was on the same shortlist as Galbraith but a place or two further down. NJ has already said he wants us to play on the floor more and as we do JRC will become more important. I suspect that will get more out of Kelman tooDamoNorthStand said:

He would have been a superb signing for us, a real shame we missed out.
Offiah also seems to have really done well at Preston too, shame we couldn't get both over the line.
I'm hoping that if we stay up as expected, these sorts of quality players will be more keen to sign in the summer.
Both evidence we were looking in the right places but struggled to appeal to some last summer.4 -
