Interesting that they played tonight. Not much rest before games on Saturday. I wonder if we can take advantage. As it happens the Saints play Oxford, and one of the teams who played last night (Watford) are playing Leicester.

You'd hope so but I felt the same before the Pompey  game after they played midweek and that didn't turn out too well, in fact it looked like we played the extra game instead.

Sometimes the rhythm of a midweek game can be really helpful for a team

I'm bored at work so made up a table of remaining games for teams around us, number of points and league table position of the opponents they are playing.
Perhaps equally as interesting, and maybe more significant, is the form table. Of our remaining fixtures, only Norwich and Ipswich are currently above us in the last 10 games form table. And that picture has changed a lot in the last little while. For example, Preston looked a tough fixture a couple of months ago, but they have been dropping like a stone. Similarly, although Hull are top six their form is very ordinary and they are probably more beatable than their league position suggests.

    Championship Form Table

Saturday is perhaps our toughest remaining fixture based on current form but, as Golfie says, we might get a bit of an advantage from them travelling a fair distance to play tonight.

We do have a bit of an opportunity to put on a late season spurt and potentially finish top half.

Unless they had to carry the team coach there on their backs I don't think the travelling tonight will make much difference, they're professional athletes not the local W.I.

This. We played and won at Middlesbrough last mid week and it didn’t stop us playing like world beaters on Saturday at Oxford…

Great to see Wrexham drop out of the play offs.

Southampton looking good to win the play offs with current form. Although doubt they’ll finish higher than 5th and it’s usually 3rd or 4th getting promoted.

    Will be 8th next year
  • If Leicester stay up after the 6 point deduction, or it is reduced/rescinded, it rewards cheating and arguably makes the gamble worthwhile. Albeit they would have had aspirations on the  play offs

Think it will depend on who takes 2nd ultimately , I still fancy Boro for autos and Saints or Ipswich through the playoffs.

  • Millwall play Ipswich this weekend. Their next game is Middlesbrough. Those teams below them could close the gap by 6 points.

Ipswich are an up and down team.  They’ve probably got the strongest team out the three on paper, but they do have an off day in them.  I think Millwall will probably be quite up for this one and they’ve been doing well on the road recently.  Boro aren’t in form apart from the QPR win.

Southampton are definitely the team to watch now.  They’ve got good players, they’re in form and come in with a little bit more freedom.

If I had to guess top 6 I would say

    Cov
    Ipswich
    Millwall
    Boro
    Soton
    Wrexham

Don’t think Derby are out of the mix yet, and maybe at the expense of Wrexham…
  • Derby, Wrexham, Southampton and Hull all to win their next two please, whilst Milllwall are thumped by Ipswich and Boro whilst picking up lots of red cards.

There’s  a ‘conspiracy’ against Millwall don’t you know , apparently they’re the only team that gets shit refs .

Actually think he could have been a really good manager with the right tools. When your given Inniss and Lavelle to play out from the back he was never going to succeed

Really good managers adapt to their resources instead of remaining wedded to a failed concept.

He was given the job on the basis he'd play better football than Jackson etc though.

Jury is very much out whether he's any good as a manager but he was in a crap situation here in being told to change the way we played without being given any decent resources to make that change with.

25% win ratio at Bristol Rovers,
    26% Win ration at Colchester
    31% win ratio with us
    50% win ratio with Swindon

Suggests to me he was decent at Swindon and crap at the other 3. One lucky hit but generally a pony manager, hence why he has gone back to coaching.

Preston V Stoke tonight, be good if Stoke won and keep Preston within striking distance just one point above us...C'mon you Potters...👌

A draw wouldn't be the worst result.
