    NEW/Kaminski Mannion
    Ramsay NEW
    Sichenje Burke/Gough
    Jones NEW
    Bell NEW
    Edwards NEW
    NEW Coventry
    NEW JRC/Docherty
    Carey Knibbs
    Mbick Leaburn Dykes
    Kelman NEW

Don’t think we need as much as last season but there’s still a lot of work to be done
If we can get TC to stay then he will definitely be in the frontline plans still. The way I see it is

    GK:

Likely to still be Kaminski and Mannion, would love a new number 1 GK but I think this is unlikely to be a priority ahead of other positions so more of a nice to have rather than a must have

    RCB:

Ramsay and Sichenje is fine here. Ramsay could be sold as he only has a year left on his deal. If he leaves we’d probably need to sign a replacement unless we are happy with Sichenje, Gough and Burke as our options. Ideally Ramsay signs a new contract and then he gives us an extra option at RWB too

    CB:

Jones plays every minute here, so we won’t be able to sign anyone decent as a back up. So instead will have to use Sichenje, Burke and Gillesphey/New LCB as the back up which is fine

    LCB:

Bell and Gillesphey/New LCB. Again this would be good if we could upgrade on Gillesphey but we would be fine with the existing options here as long as we add a new left wing back as that would even open up Edwards as an option

    RWB:

Need a new starting player here, hopefully can get Clarke. Ramsay can cover here too so if he stays then we can probably have him and Assimwe as our other options. Would happily have Ramsay and Asiimwe as the backup options if it means we can put more money towards securing Clarke and securing Ramsay on a new contract

    LWB:

Edwards will be back, need another option to avoid the disaster of the middle part of this season

    CM:

Keep Coventry and one of Docherty/JRC (I’d keep Docherty). Sign 2 new starters here and probably the most important business we do this summer is the Docherty upgrade

    10:

Carey, Knibbs and Fullah is fine

    Attackers:

Leaburn, Kelman and TC will all be better next season after a year of experience at this level. We need to bring in an experienced striker though, which hopefully will be Dykes. Mbick I’m sure will be in the squad next season. Jones might want an extra option as a bit of wildcard and so that we can switch to 2 wingers if needed in-game

    Sell/release/loan:

    Ahadme
    Apter
    Olaofe
    Alex Mitchell
    Rankin-Costello
    Godden
    Berry
    Gough
    Z.Mitchell
    Anderson
    Kanu
    Dixon

I’d say we need 5 players - RWB, LWB, CM, CM, ST. Those are the key areas we need to add in to progress next season

and then there’s a few that would be good to add GK, LCB, extra attacker, extra RWB. But also not the end of the world if we don’t add there

So probably looking at 6 or 7 signings, only needing more if we lose anyone we don’t want to lose

As good as he was last season, unless he’s really cheap we shouldn’t be keeping him next season
  • Tom Iorpenda is the type of rangy, athletic midfielder we need, currently helping Notts County into play-offs but would need a fee to Hudds.

His goal the other day was outrageous.

Guess it depends how much he plays in the next few games. I'm not against keeping him if he's cheap.

There's no way Godden is cheap, he will have been on high L1 wages and then will have got an uplift on promotion

I wouldn't be surprised to see the extension offered out of loyalty for his services

On the club option to extend his contract he won’t be cheap, but realistically as a free agent he’s going to struggle to get many good offers after a season mostly out injured. So if we wanted to keep him it might not cost us much if we just offer him a new deal on much reduced terms

Matty Gooden ran his body into the ground to score the goals needed for promotion, resulting in him getting a horrific injury (which was mishandled by the club) and missing the entire season.

It wouldn't sit right with me if we released him.

So, maybe Sniffer Dog will be on the goal scent next season, and that would be great, because a fully fit Godden this season would have been invaluable to us, and will expect him to be with us next year, maybe for one last hurrah in the Championship...Ole Ole.🙌🙌

Godden would be good for ten minutes off the bench if we're chasing a goal, but is that enough to justify a place in the squad? (No offence to Chuks Aneke).

Think we need a minimum of 8 if we’re serious about pushing on - at least 5 of which need to be regular starters.

Don’t think we can afford to be too sentimental. The reality is if the board are serious about aiming for the top half we will need to move on from many of those that got us promoted. If we go into next season with a similar midfield to this then we’ll be in trouble.

The good news is that I think at least 3 of the 8 could be loanees/signings from this year (Chambers, Dykes and one of Bree/Clarke) with potentially a space for Coady depending on what we do with some of the back up defenders eg Burke.

    Kaminski / Mannion
    New RWB / New RWB
    Ramsay / Sichenje
    Jones / Burke (if needed)
    Bell / New
    Edwards / New
    New / Coventry
    New / Docherty or JRC
    Carey / Knibbs
    New / Kelman / Campbell
    New / Leaburn / Godden

Slight OTT reaction for a guy who saw us to promotion almost single handed, and been hit by an injury which was treated with what appears to be a bungled operation.
I am sure that after a full pre-season he would be worth more than "ten minutes off the bench" next season...

So I’ve heard from two people now that are not particularly in the know but totally separately that we were one of the teams who had a bid rejected for Tyreese Shade in January and we going to be in running again for the highly rated winger/foward. I have to say he ticks all the boxes of what we are looking for and looks basically like a Tyreese Campbell clone but with more end product.

Seems to me like maybe we wanted him and then ended up with Fevrier?

Loaning out Olaofe to bring in essentially another Olaofe seems like it would have been a bit of a weird move. Thought we would have learnt our lesson about gojng for unproven L1 forwards

I'd want a keeper, 2 new centre backs, a left wing back, a right wing back, 2 central midfielders, a number 10 and 2 new strikers, so essentially a whole new team other than Jones.

Some would be squad players, some starters.

If we only sign 5 or 6 players they almost all need to be starters.

    New/Kaminski
    New/Ramsay
    Sichenje/New
    Jones/Burke
    Bell/New
    Edwards/New
    New/Docherty
    New/Coventry
    Carey/New
    Kelman/TC
    New/Leaburn

With Knibbs, Gillesphey, Mannion, Apter, Fullah and Rankin-Costello kept as squad options.

This would mean a lot of guys leaving on frees, on loan or sold, including Olaofe, Godden, Berry, Asiimwe, Anderson, Ahadme, Mitchell, Mitchell, Dixon, Mbick, Kanu, Taylor and Gough.
    What's wrong with Mannion?
Not good enough as a number 1 at this level. Neither is Kaminski so as you can see I'd sign a new GK to be the number 1, and given his wages and the fact he's been number 1 all season apart from when he's injured, Kaminski would be the second keeper, and Mannion the 3rd.

If that was the case, he'd probably look for a move, like AMB has.

You either keep Kaminski as number one or you sell him you don’t have a backup keeper as your highest paid player.

Mannion is a bit of a weird one far too good for a no.2 but is he good enough as a number 1 if we want to progress feels a bit 50/50

Doesn't make sense to keep Kaminski and Mannion as a No. 3 when we have just signed Brooks from Gateshead in that role.

Charlton Athletic are determined to try and bring James Bree back to the club this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The right-back impressed at The Valley during a loan stint earlier this season, before being recalled by Southampton in January.

Bree returned to form under Addicks' boss Nathan Jones after being frozen out by Will Still on the south coast.

But since being recalled to St Mary's, Bree has been a mainstay in the first XI under new boss Tonda Eckert.

The club, vying to return to the Premier League at the first attempt, are firmly in the play-off mix after a fine turnaround and are currently 13 games unbeaten in all competitions, with a chance of getting to Wembley in the FA Cup.

Helped by his early-season form at Charlton, Bree has been a revelation under Eckert since returning to the club and has netted three goals during their unbeaten run.

Bree is out of contract at the end of the season and it is understood there are plenty of Championship suitors for the 28-year-old

I'd prefer Clarke over Bree if available. Perhaps both?

Think we will strengthen more than we are thinking and NJ knows we will need to in order to stand still let alone progress.

Kaminski / Mannion / Brooks - no change unless we upgrade Mannion (which I don’t see happening)
    New RWB / New RWB
Ramsay / Sichenje / Burke (unless latter sold)
    Jones / New
    Bell / New
    Edwards / New
    Coventry / New
    New / Doc / JRC
    Carey / Knibbs / New
New RW / Apter (would put a few quid on JRS - he loves us and has a year to run on his contract in the summer - may be wishful thinking)
    New LW / Campbell
    New / Kelman / Godden
    New / Leaburn / Kanu

Think Fullah, Z Mitchell, Gough, Dixon, Mbick out on loan - the rest released or sold

    12 in, 9 out

People mentioning JRS, has he been any good at stoke?, would he be any good in our system?, would everyone be satisfied if we were to sign him?, genuine question as I’ve not really followed his progress that much, other than to notice he hasn’t really cemented a position at palace and is always on loan.

That gives you a squad of 32. Nathan Jones has said in the past he likes a squad of 25 if we’re continuing to play 352 should look something like.

    3 keepers
    11 defenders (cb’s + wingbacks)
    6 mids
    5 forwards.

We don’t tend to use natural wingers (Apter brought in to play wingback) but I’d assume we’d either have some forwards or wingbacks who could do a job on the wing. Likewise some defenders who can play at wide centreback, fullback or wingback.

We need at least one starting forward, two starting midfielders and two starting wingbacks.  Ideally would like to upgrade GK and rcb (not a big fan of Ramsay and Sichenje is too much of an unknown) but might not be realistic
