"Oh Ive got a mate who supports Charlton"

What is the typical response you always seem to get when you tell someone you support Charlton? Mine is in the thread title….

    Cheltenham?
I get this a lot. How unintelligible must the south London accent be that it can be confused. And why the fuck would anyone with a south London accent support Cheltenham. And why, If anyone wasn’t sure what they heard,  would they assume Cheltenham before Charlton?

But who is your Premier League team?
Wanna knock people out when they say this - clearly anyone who utters these words deserves it

even more insulting when they ask it after asking others next to you who they support and they answer saints and Watford and aren’t asked the same follow up  - which has happened to me

I think I've had "oh yeah, they're alright' a few times. Because most people who know about football think that's what we are - nothing special, not full of gloryhunter fans (not now, anyway) but there's no reason to hate us.

I did notice when singing along to Amazing Grace yesterday I was singing Chull Un, Chull Un, Chull Un, Chull Un, Chull Un, Chull Urn, Chull Urn
  • Shortly after moving up north, I spoke to a lad and asked him who he supported but he said he was not really into football but he did ask who I supported.
On answering, he looked a bit puzzled and asked which league we were in, I told him and he then said he had no idea Chorlton even had a football team!
He was on about Chorlton-cum-Hardy, a suburb of Manchester!
