We really/ideally need to win on Saturday.
What would be your starting line-up to win this single game if you were in charge?

All depends on who's available, if the injuries are the same as last week I'd go for this. Fevrier pushes forward and TC splits wide with Chambers, Doc and JRC essentially sliding over one to cover the spaces. If Clarke is back, he replaces Fevrier and maybe you play Dykes and Godden with Chambers pushing up and Coventry instead of JRC4

For me its
Mannion
Ramsey Jones Bell
Clarke Chambers
Coady Coventry
Fullah
Dykes Kelman0 -
Mannion
Ramsay, Burke, Jones, Bell
Coady
Clarke, Rankin- Costello, Docherty,
Dykes, Godden
if needed after 60 minutes bring on
Schienjie got Burke, Février for Docherty Kerman for Godden

I think I’d actually drop Dykes and get Campbell and Kelman in from the start. Leaburn & Godden from 60 onwards.1
-
That would be extremely harsh on Doc . Despite our results , he’s been our best player the last two games .Elthamaddick said:Mannion

I agree that TC shouldn’t start .0 -
Mannion
Ramsay Jones Bell
Fev Docherty Coady Chambers
Carey
Dykes TCWe’ve played well away from home in recent games with this kind of set up. I don’t really see a reason to change that. If Coady isn’t available then it will have to be Coventry
Really don’t understand people leaving TC out. We need goals and he is our most creative player in open play. Without him I struggle to see how we will create enough chances to win the game unless it’s a 1-0 scraped win. He’s got to start really3 -
I'd like to see Dykes with Godden or Kelman and TC on the same team. Otherwise, our attacking tactic board will just have one bullet point: Long throw.1

I think we need at least one of Fevrier or Campbell on the pitch. Otherwise we are so one dimensional with no pace and width1 -
Mannion
Clarke Jones Bell Chambers
Coady
Docherty JRC
Fevrier Campbell
Godden
Because why not

Got a (bad) feeling that Coady won’t be available.0

I would go with;
Mannion
Clarke Ramsay Jones Bell Chambers
Coady
Doc JRC
Dykes Kelman
Subs;
Brooks
Gillesphey
Burke
Fevrier
Coventry
Carey
Campbell
Godden
Leaburn
But I expect NJ will play Carey & Campbell instead of Coady & Kelman.

I'd genuinely quite like to see a 4-4-2 like West Brom have been doing in recent weeks.
Mannion
Ramsey Jones Bell Chambers
Fev Coady Coventry TC
Dykes Kelman
Fevrier can always slide back into RWB without the ball but this would allow TC to be able to stay wider1 -
The lineup will be how it usually is, I'm not too bothered about that, but I would like there to be more of a plan for how to manage the game as it goes on. At the start of the season we had the two second shift strikers. TC and Kelman would start then Leaburn and Tanto would come on, usually one after 60 and the other after 70-odd minutes and we'd give the opposition different problems to deal with defensively. Knibbs would come on to ruin injury time for the opposition and we'd change up our midfield for fresh legs. Maybe we'd bring on Gillesphey to see things out. The set-up remained consistent, just the profiles of the players would change.
Recently it's felt much less like we're running through a planned set of changes and more like we're just desperately trying to throw anything at getting a goal. We'll swap one striker, but then we'll bring Chambers off for another striker and move TC to LWB which will affect our balance there, then Coventry will come off for another attacker and our base is gone and we're just slinging the ball into the box desperately if we can get hold of it at all. Maybe we'll bring off Clarke or TC for another attacking player. By the end our shape is basically 415 and we're praying for a knock down in the box rather than building sustained pressure and it hasn't led to goals for us at all.
I've been thinking recently about how our previous specialty - scoring late, late goals - has completely dried up in the new year. In the first half of the season we scored 6 injury time goals in 23 games which won us 7 extra points (we were already 2-0 up against Blackburn and we don't talk about the Fratton Park one). Following that we've managed 1 in the following 19 games, which won us a point against Oxford. Even that was the result of one of their defenders losing his mind and giving away a daft penalty. We used to be relentless, we kept going in the same organised setup, having opposition attacks break against us and then using our superior fitness and an aggressive mentality to suddenly come alive at the death and force a goal. We don't do that anymore though, instead we switch up in a way that robs us of any rhythm and becomes about praying when the ball drops in the box we have enough attackers on the pitch that one of them will be able to poke the ball home but I really think we'd be better off keeping our shape, wearing teams down and then exploding at the end. It's been a much more effective strategy for us over the past two seasons and it's weird that we seem to have completely abandoned it, especially for something that hasn't led to more points.12 -
I'd go with personnel that can adapt the formation without making subs too early etc, giving us options later in the game if needed. So i'd start with 451 and have width to start with but it gives campbell license to attack without so much defensive need.
Mannion
Clarke Ramsay Jones Bell
Campbell JRC Docherty Chambers
Carey
Dykes
This also means chambers, who i thin is too lightweight for a defender, can get far enough forward for crosses and his passing is good too. Campbell can attack and Carey now has a free role to get into the box and cause havoc. Now if this works fine and we score it can drop back to a 532 formation with no changes and play more on the break. If it doesnt work, Godden for Carey and Fevrier for Chambers and go 442 with genuine crossers in the team.
This is a one off cup final for me, we have to give it a go scoring, if we do score first i think we'll win easily enough. If we go all 622 from the start we're a car crash waiting to happen.0 -
Coady is not available 14 days minimum the earliest he’ll be back is Ipswich.0
-
I tend to agree but having read the FA 'guidance' on the subject it's a bit open to interpretation.cazo said:Coo ady is not available 14 days minimum the earliest he’ll be back is Ipswich.0 -

I'm not convinced it's a Coady type game anyway. He's a great organiser which was really helpful away to Middlesborough but will be less so against Sheffield Wednesday when we'll be hoping to spend most of the match in their half rather than ours. Obviously I'd rather have him as an option1
-
Mannion
Jones
Coventry Docherty
Fullah Rankin-Costello Carey
Kelman Dykes Godden TC
In a 1234 formation
Bench of Fevrier, Leaburn, Coady, Ramsay, Bell, Chambers, Berry, Clarke, Knibbs
Once we score, bring on 5 defenders and hold station, if we haven't scored after an hour, take off Coventry and Docherty for Leaburn and Knibbs1 -
Having someone with an engine who's good at snuffing out counter attacks feels like a good idea for this one!2
-
If Knibbs was fitter I’d be tempted to drop Carey for this. Sounds insane but I think he’s been poor for a long time. Knows he’s a guaranteed starter and unless he scores, I think he goes through the motions
sort of game he needs to step up in on Saturday2 -
Just concerned where the goals are coming from, we need as many people starting as possible who can actually score from one of our limited chances.
That means finding a way to get Carey, Godden, Kelman and Knibbs as many minutes as possible. Those are the only 4 I can see getting us the goal needed, maybe Dykes as well.

Might be unpopular but I'd go with the same team that started against Preston last week, we looked a threat going forward in the opening 20mins and would have continued doing so, had we not allowed Preston that chance to get back into it with the header... As it is our heads dropped and they took control for the rest of the First Half, then up until the second Preston goal it could have gone either way.Famous last words but I dont see Sheffield Wednesday controlling the game like what Preston were able to.2

I’m glad you lot don’t get to pick the team for real.1

Whichever permutation you go for, I find the midfield three so uninspiring0

I like the midfield three but I agree , they are uninspiring. The lack of quality if frightening compared to most other teams in this division and I think Jones now knows that.cabbles said:Whichever permutation you go for, I find the midfield three so uninspiring1
