Aren't those the cars that try to kill you?

Last year we went down to see Nick Masons car collection. The man has a collection that is probably one of the best in the world. Outside his house, (the one that he bought off the present Queen), he had his Ferrari 250 facing an Aston  Martin DB4 Zagato.  Millions of pounds worth in just those two but spread out over the grounds was car after car in perfect condition.  He opens up his house one weekend a year and proceeds go to Wiltshire air ambulance.
Anyway my dream car has always been a Mini, having owned one I get a bit nostalgic when I see one nowadays. I used to love working on my one, a horrible BL lime green, (I actually resprayed it in the same colour), Mini 1000. It was more like Triggers broom the amount of parts I replaced, from back to front and inside. I never could stop the oil leaks from the drive shafts so always parted in the road. I doubt they are as cheap for spares anymore but I'd still have one just for the smell.

    0-60 under 4 seconds.
    No traction control.
    No ABS Braking.
    Not for the faint hearted.

Might be a challenge parking at the supermarket! 😆
Or using for a Bank robbery.
The only vehicle you ever needed in a bank raid.
I wouldn’t recommend the 2.4 York diesel Transit. Proper barstard to start cold.  We used to modify them to a Bradex easy start. Basically an Ether pump installed in the cab.
Pump the can of “Start ya bastard!!” While cranking over, and away you go. BUT you had disconnect the flame start.
Murphy own fitters decided to reconnect the flame start, it needed an under bonnet explosion, which blew the inlet manifold 30 feet into the air and the bonnet 150 yards down Horn Lane to convince them that both systems were incompatible.

When they were working! But yes the old TVRs were a real blast.

The 70s/80s 911s were on a different level though - known as 'Widow Makers' for very good reasons. They are much quicker today but they've been sanitised to a very large degree and you would have to be driving like a lunatic to lose one now.

Mate, had one, real fun, but he would lose the back end more than 20 pints of Guinness & a curry.

I'd like one that doesn't need repairing, or petrol

Very nice but not sure about the colour. A V8 rather than a speed six I think.

More of a diesel guy are you?
  • My Capri 2.8 injection and my sisters Manta. I would take either again, absolutely loved these cars. Before the 2.8, I had the 3.0 JPS Capri, I'd add that to my wish list too!

Yes the 4.5 V8, as confirmed by the number plate.

    I’d like:

    1. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for a fun day out at the coast with the wife and kids.

    2. The Delorean for ’Operation Correct the last 20 years of Football.’

AI must have been keeping an eye on our results when I asked it what car Charlton would have:

Surely it's more to do with Rodney Charlton Trotter  driving a 3 wheel van (though not a Robin).

    They sound fabulous
Jumped at the chance to look after one for a week when a mate was in need of a garage.
His had been cossetted by a devoted first owner and I was told, was "much improved over the troublesome article that had arrived fresh from the factory 5 or 6 years before"!
Jesus H Christ what a disappointment!
Goes like greased lightning of course but with constant sensation of imminent jeopardy.
Ergonomically a disaster which when added to the truly awful ride makes even the shortest journey a deeply unpleasant experience.
The electrics were an ever changing litany of hopelessness.  The servo operated boot catch a particularly dismal fiasco - there isn't even anywhere to hook a bungee to keep the effer shut so the ignominy of tank tape was a constant.  The original owner had installed an aftermarket remote locking mechanism to bypass the factory supplied lucky dip lottery on whether one could open the door/have it stay shut when inside/then open again to get out using the illogically located door release buttons.
I dunno if the first owner had used a lot of inappropriate polishes etc in his tenure but something awful was happening to the lacquer/topcoat, this dark green example looked like it had some ghastly eczema problem, as its top layer peeled off all panels.
It might have been good fun in (very) capable hands on track but as road transport it was as painful as it was bowel loosening.
If this one was typical (and similar stories are legion) the surprise was that TVR stayed in business as long as they did.
Handing back the keys was a joyful experience.  My mate didn't keep it long at all and let it go for a chastening deficit, preferring the relative reliability and predictability of Maserati ownership instead!

Wondered if there were any famous cars from old shows or just an old classic that you would love to have.

Number one on my list has to be the Consul GT from The Sweeney.

Followed by the Vauxhall Cresta in the Ghost Town video.

That’s my car, in Ghost Town, they hired it for the video.
