BEAT THE BOOKIE 2025/26 - The Results
12 out of 57 lifers got a return in week 32. @Starinnaddick is the weekly winner with picks of a win for Tottenham Hotspur against Aston Villa (3.0) and a win for Southampton against Preston North End (2.1) netting £63.0.
That brings us to a close for 2025/26 and my first year running Beat The Bookie. Thank you to everyone who took part and for sticking with it through the early-season teething issues.
A big congratulations to this year’s winner, @Sonicstud85!
Top of the table since week 8 and never really looked like giving it up. Three massive weeks on the bounce returning £612.56 pretty much killed off any competition.
Season stats
86 players took part overall and 68 players managed at least one return. We staked £20,480 and ended £380.69 up across the season.
The podium finishers were:
🥉 3rd: @North Lower Neil
🥈 2nd: @Tutt-Tutt
🥇 1st: @Sonicstud85
At the other end of the table, the Adam Matthews wooden spoon award is shared between @SaySomething and @thai malaysia addick. Both went the full 32 weeks without landing a return.
The Ralph Allen award for the most returns goes to @Chris_from_Sidcup who beat the bookie 12 times this season.
The Johnny Summers award for the single best return goes to @Billyboy who returned £329.87 by backing Charlton, Millwall and Luton in week 25.
Team trends:
- Arsenal were the most backed side (254 picks), with Aston Villa (236) and Ipswich Town (226) close behind
- Matches involving the Addicks were the most popular overall (366), followed by Villa (346) and Spurs (327)
And for those 366 Addicks games:
- Backed to win: 195 times
- Backed to lose: 150 times
The final table:
BTB World Cup Edition
The competition will return for the world cup.
There will be 8 rounds, 1 for each of the group stages and then a round for the round of 32, 16, quarters, semis and final. The gap between each round may be very short (less than a day) but hopefully that doesn't cause too many issues.
The tournament kicks off on June 11th so I'll aim to get the first set of selections up across the weekend prior.
Thanks!

Very happy with the Wooden Spoon. I always go for the big outsiders which paid off two years ago and were a whisker away from big wins this year. Great work, @Leeds_Addick and a really enjoyable competition. On a separate note does @AFKABartram cover your travel expenses from Leeds? I’m thinking of claiming expenses for flights from Thailand (actually I don’t live there!)2
