What a load of absolutely ridiculous, unrealistic tosh; John Stones can't play left centre back!Fortune 82nd Minute said:I've come to the conclusion we are being far too modest in looking at prospective new players given there are a number of quality players currently available on a free.
We badly need a forward. Jamie Vardy has just been released by his Italian club.
Likewise a right sided attacker to feed him would be good. How about Mo Salah, who is currently without a club.
A left sided defender is a must. John Stones has just been released by City. Sign him.
And Liverpool can solve our left back problem. Not young Chambers but Andy Robertson. He's on a free and will be desperate to get signed up somewhere.
I expect Bernardo Silva may be out of our reach atm but it could be worth a shot.
And I really fancy a little cheeky bid for Jarrod Bowen.
Reading this back I do wonder if the sun has got to me :-)6 -
Unless he has told them already that he won't sign a new deal / already rejected the best deal they would be willing to offer and they would prefer to 'save face' by adding him to a released list than make it a public rejection.Crispywood said:
Clubs always announce players they’ve offered deals to as under talks/discussions etc in retained lists.CB1 said:
being released straight up like Tutu means they didn’t think he was worth a contract and if we’re going for players that a team from L1 playoffs didn’t want might as well hand in our relegation form already.Would have been Our equivalent of giving Tennai Watson another deal once we got promoted
The above being said, I know nothing of him as a player so I am not advocating us making an offer!0 -
Ahem, I think this could be the moment I’ve been waiting for!fenaddick said:Just an arbitrary date really but I love that we have 84 pages and nearly 2.5k comments about a window that doesn’t officially start for another 20 days

I dunno 85 pages of utter bollox and no actual rumours! You guys……………….;)0 -
The summer window makes no difference at all, it’s a registration window. You can sign any player at any time in or out of a window you just can’t register them to play for you. As their are no games in the summer it doesn’t matter.RonnieMoore said:Why the window not opening on the 1st of June after the play off weekend is ridiculous…3 -
I think the fans would Embrace that kind of fighting spirit...Radostanradical said:

A totally random name from the continent that I will throw out there (with no link, just a name)…
Callum McCowatt
New Zealand international attacking midfielder who scores goals. Plays for Silkeborg IF in the Danish Superliga. A player who could impress for them at the World Cup this summer and get a move. Contract up at the end of 2027.3 -
Free transfer available

Fair enough. Is he any good in goal?Garrymanilow said:

Random Facebook rumour about our transfer budget.

I mean, maybe. £15m sounds somewhat plausible. But that just doesn't feel like something Curbs would say, especially in a public settingScoham said:Random Facebook rumour about our transfer budget.

If I can remember correctly. Didn't most signings come out of nowhere last summer and not spoken about for a while? Bar Knibbs and maybe a few others? But overall most only got leaked a day or so before... if that!4

We signed Lloyd Jones to play in L1. That he turned out to be Championship quality is great, but not something that was assumed at the time.wolfgang said:
More thoughtful posters here have demolished that sort of reasoning in several previous threads. For example, Lloyd Jones played 41 times for Cambridge Utd in League One in 2022/23, when they only missed relegation by a single point. Jarrod Bowen was first-choice for West Ham when relegated. Obviously no other club would touch him with a barge-pole for that reason.Garrymanilow said:
Good players can play for poor teams. It happens all the time. By all means turn up your nose at Joe Powell, but not for that reason.
More generally, I think those who have excessive expectations for new signings are going to be greatly disappointed.
Signing any player from L1 to play in the Championship is a risk, but signing one from a relegated L1 team to play in the Championship is a real leap. Not impossible but unlikely unless it's a youngster with development potential.1 -
Umm not sure about that.Radostanradical said:

I use the same cat sitter as the McNamaras. By all accounts that exchange at the Valley really rattled him, and he has not been the same (on or off the pitch) since the incident.
He will be lucky to pass a medical this summer, given he has been diagnosed with what is effectively complex PTSD.5 -

Give his agent a bonus11 -
43 clubs surely it's better to sell him at an auction 😂13

Jones was right about left footed centre halves being like gold dust!3

Think we can forget about Luke Graham...🙄2

Carey, Fevrier, Rousillon, Hernandez, Brooks came completely out of the blue everyone else were definitely already reported on before the club announced it themselvescafc-4-life said:If I can remember correctly. Not sure that's true. Bell was talked about on here because of a chat at Glastonbury but I don't think it was reported elsewhere, Fev was also talked about on here. I seem to remember JRC being out of the blue, Chambers was discussed on here but nowhere else and mostly we were expecting ScanlonCrispywood said:

We can't compete with clubs like Lincoln2 -
Indeed. I don’t have high hopes of us securing Graham. Perhaps we need to look at what defensively solid left backs are available and could conceivably be converted to that LCB more full time.ButtleJR said:Jones was right about left footed centre halves being like gold dust!
That’s what Amari’i Bell did some years ago and it’s worked out well for him. Perhaps it’s something to more seriously consider for Josh Edwards or another left back we may sign.0 -
Graham has a lot of suiters it seems. Many with deeper pockets I would think. Ethan Pye perhaps if not or a foreign signing under the radar like Collins.3
-
Some left footed defenders that might be worth a look:
- Oliver Zanden (Brommapojkarna)
- Niklas Kolbe (Hertha Berlin)1
