Graham has a lot of suiters it seems. Many with deeper pockets I would think. Ethan Pye perhaps if not or a foreign signing under the radar like Collins.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a left footed version of Collins in terms of profile. Feels like we know we can't get the profile for the right kind of price domestically.

Random Facebook rumour about our transfer budget.

It doesn't matter how much money we have the amount we can spend is capped at 85% of total football revenue as well as the net revenue from player sales.

This last but could be problematic as any player we would like to get rid of is likely to cost us money & therefore will go down as a loss in the player acquisition/sales ledger. Unless, of course, someone is daft enough to pay us millions for Ahadme, Apter, Olaofe etc.

My own preference for a cheap buy would be the even more versatile and more experienced Joe Powell
Played 30 times this season for a Rotherham side relegated to L2. No thanks.

More thoughtful posters here have demolished that sort of reasoning in several previous threads. For example, Lloyd Jones played 41 times for Cambridge Utd in League One in 2022/23, when they only missed relegation by a single point. Jarrod Bowen was first-choice for West Ham when relegated. Obviously no other club would touch him with a barge-pole for that reason.

Good players can play for poor teams. It happens all the time. By all means turn up your nose at Joe Powell, but not for that reason.

More generally, I think those who have excessive expectations for new signings are going to be greatly disappointed.
Leeds must have been real mugs paying £3,000,000 for Mills after we got relegated.

Possibly an option is we swop Fevrier/Sidebeh for Olaofe at the agreed price of £1m or £2m, purchase spread over 3/4 years while sale wipes off total asset value.

Ditto similar deals, Graham or Iorpenda for Ahadme/Apter.

Carey must be worth a few bob.

Do we think other clubs dont do cynical deals?

A struggle this season but a free reign next year, and the best way to get rid of deadwood.

Made 11M last season add 9M for TV revenue then potentially a few more for commercial, match day sales etc etc you’re probably looking at 20-25M meet in the middle and say 22.5M.

Means we get to spend roughly 19M on transfer fees and wages. Last year we spent 13.8M on wages however it does include 200 staff members and the new rules only apply to the manager and playing squad as far as I’m aware. So we should have room to do some things but unless the owners inject 10-15M of additional funds I doubt we go guns blazing especially considering we still have to pay clubs a sum over the course of the players contract

It’s football not fifa swap deals very rarely exist, the ones that do are usually clubs trading players to loophole FFP rules.

Theres thousands of footballers the likelihood that 2 clubs number 1 target plays for opposite sides and then both having the perfect wage structure to compliment the deal whilst also getting both players to agree the move is very very unrealistic.

Personally I’d be getting on the phone to a Cambridge asking if they want Ahadme, a Stevenage if they want a Tanto etc etc

I’m confident that we will sign some decent players this summer maybe unexpectedly good. Although I’m still sulking at not getting the Japanese fella !

Haha I see the posts on the other place transfer thread, originally it was just Jones out and then He edited it to add more context apparently the majority of our players who got promoted are league two standard and then someone echoe'd most of our players are league one standard with just a few being championship 🤣

Considering we finished 19th those few must be Messi levels to have kept us up and surely by default playing and staying in the championship atleast makes a lot of them the standard, sure we can upgrade and we need to but it's very negative.

I’ve always thought Josh Edwards would end up as a LCB, he’s tall for a full back but not quite good enough going forward to be a wingback at this level.

Always been my thought and like Bell, playing LCB should reduce his injury prospects.

How strict is this 85% football revenue rule? Could clubs like Wrexham and West Ham abuse it with commercial or investor income?

    I agree.
Sadly that would mean we have to sign 4 Champ level wingbacks from somewhere. That seems extremely unlikely.

Commercial yes investor no, owners can only put in 33M over 3 seasons (Max 15M in a 1 yr period) to spend on the playing squad fees and wages but it also means they will be able to utilise more much funds from revenue than other clubs

Tbf to Josh Edwards his injuries haven’t been loading he’s just been extremely unfortunate with impact injuries.

The clamber for overseas players is understandable when thinking about attacking flair, but I don’t think we need discount defensive players like Pye when considering our transfer plan, even if they are League 1 players like Apter and Olaofe.

After all, Jones came from Cambridge and Ramsey from Harrogate.

For me, the big money should be spent (maybe abroad) on our attacking threat like a 10, a fast winger and one or two forwards. Picking up tough League 1 defenders is fine.

First time I've missed the old site when reading this thread. Used to be much easier skimming through looking for posts with higher number of likes as something worth reading. All a bit grey now. Sigh
