Steven Gerrard describing penalties as ‘a lottery’ - that’s why you lost them with England mate.

Preparation, research and calm decision-making. Something that abandoned Raya, Eze and Gabriel.

He won the Champions League on penalties.

They are not a lottery but they still aren’t the right way to decide a football match imo.

Also, why did they toss the coin twice allowing PSG both advantages of kicking towards their own fans and going first?

The coin toss for ends doesn’t require the captains, the coin sides represent ends and the ref does it after explaining which side represents which end

I think two tosses in a CL final is always the way it's been done.

Personally, I'd rather see all finals (after extra time) decided by shots on target in the game, then shots, then corners etc etc. Too many massive games are won by teams that "park the bus" rather than look to win the match. Doing that would incentivise attacking play in what is a showpiece event.

Seriously baffles me how Odegaard is Arsenal's captain and not Rice or Gabriel.

I can't think of another club who'd sub off their captain after 65 minutes of a final when he wasn't injured.
I was thinking this too - he doesn’t seem to last 90 very often, not sure if the stats back that up but it seems like a strange situation.

Perhaps he has in his contract, that if he plays he’s captain.

If we are going to carry on with the anti-football, learn how to take penalties.

    ;-)
Not sure we are making the champions League final any time soon, should be alright : )
    But Sandgaard promised us.

    Give a shit?
    Nah.
Arsenal boast about how long they have been a top flight club, but they didn’t achieve that status by winning promotion in the usual way, at the expense of Tottenham no less.
If Arsenal were to voluntarily relegate themselves to league two (or lower) and work their way back up like Rangers did in Scotland, then they could regain some credibility in my eyes.

    😂

What a poetic ending.  Really couldn't have happened to two nicer blokes and the most deluded, derided fanbase and the most hated club on the planet.

You only have to see the social media pile on to know that is the case.

Gabriel must have got confused bless him.  The goalkeeper is usually blocked off by 3 of his team mates.

Eze, we remember you standing in front of the South Stand at Spurs pissing your pants with laughter after you scored, mocking us.  You've just found out that karma's a real bitch.

And anyway, 24.7% possession.  They got what they deserved.  If they'd have won the shoot out it would have been an absolute travesty.

Hang on just a tiny moment.
From a detached point of view an away game at the old Highbury was always a far better experience than an away game at the old White Hart Lane.
This is from somebody who lived in Philip Lane Tottenham for four years.
Highbury and Islington and whatnot being way too expensive.

A bit harsh to criticise Raya as he saved one of the PSG pens, yet the PSG keeper saved none and his team won.

I agree with the preparation and calmness though, PSG had 4 shoot outs this season (Spurs, Marseille, Flamengo and Arsenal) and won them all, resulting in 4 of the 5 trophies they won. Last season they won 2 out of 2. You don't win 6 shoot outs in a row just by luck.

As for Spurs, do me a favour, your only up cause Villa couldn’t be arsed because of a semi final

Anyway, PSG have a massive structural advantage over everyone in Europe, in a league they can rotate players in for most of it, with no real competition, no cost controls, petrocash doing alright at the moment, they are set up to win in Europe a lot.

What is wrong with putting the ball on the spot, walking back and turning around and banging it.

The two misses involved a bit of dancing.
Thought Eze was gonna start moonwalking at one point.

Glad the team that was openly against the European super league beat the team owned by one of the proponents of a European super league.

This is true but domestically they earn hardly anything in tv money compared to PL teams. I think they only get something like 30m tv money, which is around 75m less than Wolves and Burnley got this year.

The Ligue 1 tv rights are a joke, but let’s not pretend they need a big TV deal to compete

nearly 800 people have been arrested, over 2 hundred have been injured, eight of which are in a serious condition and one person has died. I know the french riot police are heavy handed but for the PSG fans to react like this after another european victory after what happened last year is just so sad to see.

I've often thought that they should do away with penalties.

There should be two halves of 10 mins extra time and then if it is still all square at the end then each team should remove 1 player at 1 minute intervals. The managers decide to remove which players,  defenders, midfielders or strikers to suit their tactics. The first one to then score wins.

Then at least the match has a 'tactical' outcome and not the lottery of penalties.

Indeed. One shot on target, 27 per cent possession and two completely missed penalties by the team that won the Prem league. Sums up how crap the Premier League is at present.
