Some years ago, Charlton hosted a series of games of gridiron at The Valley. Can anyone provide more information about these games and dates, etc? And is there an archive of images from those games?

1985. Greenwich v Milton Keynes, in front of just other a thousand fans. Could be wrong though. Reference to this game is mentioned in Rick Everitt's early 90's book

I played Amercian Football when I was a kid. Strong Safety/Outside Linebacker for Kent Rams - London junior champions 1987 :) We were formed from the ashes of the Greenwich Rams - our senior team was pretty good (unlike in the Greenqich days when they were, frankly, shite). Never played anywhere like the Valley though - used to play at SANCO & the Rectory. Got my first sporting concussion on a kickoff return when I levelled the returner and landed with my nut on his knee. Aaaah - memories!

  • Blimey, I was there. There must be plenty of atticks that have a box in them full of american football gear - the early years of coverage on C4 led to a couple of leagues. It became apparent pretty soon that it wasn't something that you could just start doing without having played it as a youngster.

However the C4 coverage gave football something that has affected the English game (and CAFC) to a great extent. We all know what that is.
