With the recent signing of Dickson and rumoured signing of Jarvis from the Gills and Brunt from Sheff Wed do you think this is AP preparing the ground for a season on the CC or bringing back that English feel for next season in the PL?

Its exactly what he did at West Ham when they went down.

Not complaining if he does go for the Young and English approach that he had at West Ham, probably knows how to refine it now.

I think Alan Pard's is going to be a great manager if backed.

Competley agree with both of you. Its what we "tried" to do under Curbs, but Pards seems to be a bit more of a man manager than AC was.

Well it certainly feels like that. Can you remember a time when we were signing pre-contract "unknowns"? Yes there was HH but he was hardly an unknown. I think its rather exciting and again a forward thinking intelligent pro-active approach.

It's a interesting point, but he has EVERYONE convinced at the club that they ARE going to make it, whether deep down he does not, well that's another matter.

I think it's shrewd business. If we stay up then they'll add to the squad, if we go down they'll be in with a bigger shout of going straight into the team.

The thing is that all this talk of transfers, etc, coupled with the things the man says makes people believe that we can do it - which can only be a good thing. At worst, if we do go down, then we'll have fresh blood - so no bad thing all round.

Our Pikey friends speak highly of Jarvis so I can see him being a ggod aquisition in any event if the price is right.

Pards can smell the 1 million quid bonus that he is going to get when he keeps us up. of course he is going to split it between all season ticket holders as he says we are one big team !!!!

The outcomes to plan for here at the end of the season are not unknown. There are only two. It makes sense to build for the future now. We need to sign players who have the potential to play at the highest level, not just stop gaps.

There are clearly holes in our junior set up as regards quality players to come through. If you can scout available youngsters who are better then your own home grown talent, then you should be bringing them in.

West Ham had some talented youngsters to come through supplemented by the external purchases that Pards made. The advantage for us is that we already have Pards onboard whereas he had to dismantle a team and build a new one in a maximum of two seasons and he almost failed to achieve his objective. Bringing in the players now and getting them used to our set up and ready to go next season has to be good sense. More evidence of Pards class act is emerging.

Well- think vast majority of us were right behind Curbs until end of last season.

Agree with others - Impressed by the way Pards goes about his business.

The two players he's brought in have both been young and cheap. If they work out then we have two good players for bugger all, if they don't then we won't have spent that much money and chances are we will recoup what we spent.

The Danish winger looks a straight swap for our current Danish winger, and I presume that as he's allowed Sam to go on loan to Sarfend that we won't be seeing him back either. That leaves a gap in the squad for a young, up and coming player who can play on the wing. Dickson's transfer looks a bit more opportunistic, and taking a gamble on a late developer, I can't see JFH being retained and he's out of contract at the end of the year. In reserve that leaves Walker and Lisbie, neither inspire me with much confidence.

I think Curbs lost the plot a few years back personally. I was glad for the change i just wish the club had got it right first time. Why didnt we appoint Billy Davies when we had the chance. Although i think Pards is better than Davies.

It was offered to Davies but he wanted some time to think about it, at which point Dowie became available...

I'd love to know if we approached Martin O'Neill? He'd be too arrogant to apply to the ad - would expect an approach. We were probably too diffident...

Whilst I agree it was time Curbs went, I was still behind him till the end - as I think most were.

    Damn that Davies!!!!!

    Its all his fault
  • Actually, the problem with Billy Davies was that he would not agree to having the infamous "management structure" imposed on him and wanted to bring in his own people and you can't blame him for that.
He is a Pardew style manager and not a Head Coach type and just would not budge on that, even at the risk of losing out on a Prem job and all power to him for that because he stuck to his principles.
Who knows what might have happened if we had brought in Davies and not Dowie? My guess is that he would have brought in Claude Davis for Preston (now at the Blades) and probably also brought Mears and Nugent as well rather than JFH and Traore.

scanned through this and other threads tonight after leving the board for a while and I am shocked at the number of posters assuming we are down!!! Result tonight at Citeh but not too bad to push Pierce out... Booked me tickets and coach for the away game today and just hoping that we get some results in the next couple of weeks...

Have people not noticed that Citeh's odds are down from 13-1 to 6-1 and maybe shorter after the weekend - If it's a two horse race assuming Watford + West Ham gone then I prefer our position with some decent games coming up and a team winning and drawing + players just back in.

So to reiterate I am shocked at those who have given up or is it under doctor's orders ? ! lol

Keep the faith lads and enjoy

PS back to the thread - buy 'em cheap sell 'em high - we must be v. attractive to young players right now as they sniff a possible clear out ... as for the discussion on the management, well, we got there in the end and, assuming we survive, we are well positioned to straighten things out.
