[cite]Posted By: mistrollingin[/cite]On Channel 4 news last night it was reported that Gordon "I couldn't manage a piss up in a brewery" Brown had sent a Royal Navy warship to Calais with a capacity of...wait for it.......250 people. Nice one Gordy, why not go for broke and and tell all the Brits trying to get home to go and wait on the beach at Dunkirk and you'll send a few fishing boats over to pick them up.
Madness. Surely we could redeploy some ships from warzones or essential defence manouevres to help these tourists back home from their holidays? Better still, I'm sure we could knock up a couple of troop carriers in the shipyards in Sunderland and get them down to Calais within a few weeks.

mmm, I might be in Asia for some time to come

“The best-case scenario is the worst is over, but I have my doubts,” author and physicist Michio Kaku told Good Morning America yesterday. “The more likely scenario is that this is a repeat of 1821, where for 14 months that very same volcano sputtered. We’ll have to look for windows to shoot airplanes through or over.”

The worst-case scenario? Scientists believe the current eruption could spark the explosion of Iceland’s Katla volcano, which is only 10 miles away and is 10 times more powerful. In fact, as Associated Press reported, “the last three times that Eyjafjallajokull erupted, Katla did as well.”

That is so true. Wonder if it will make it's way into 1000's of PCs inboxes the same way any right wing rant about immigrants does?

Could be framed more objectively but I can't disagree with much of it, apart from the way it contradicts itself - there have been no special meetings of cabinet, then goes on to mention Britains special cabinet meeting of cobra..
  • Bit of a lecture there.. and have not noticed the Russian 'states' falling over to help there world brothers in the world village commrade.

Have to agree with the views on Brown though, too little , too late, except for a pr opportunity!.

Not Britains finest hour to be sure, but then not Europe's as well.......

have to say though, ash clouds closing our airspace are extremely rare, and whatever the government did would be wrong, I'd rather they er on the side of caution, than have huge metal birds falling from the sky killing hundreds/thousands, personally.

LOL. WTF does a theoretical physicist know about volcanic activity? Love it. ABC must just phone up anyone who looks like a nerd for a scientific soundbite on a round-robin basis.

    ........

Just as laughable when the likes of David Bellamy, Noel Edmonds and sundry weather presenters are wheeled out to deny global warming.

Can you lot down there already please point hairdryers, fan heaters and everything else you can think of at the sky and try and send it over to France instead? PLEASE. £217 return each on the rip-off and fleece people for all we can get trains... and it's an awfully long drive otherwise...

Train is not quite as expensive as I thought - £216 for the two of us. Silly me didn't realise it gives the total fare for the party..just as well Mr Weegie knew better. So that's looking like the realistic option now. Will get there if we possibly can, and just hope the team turn up too!!

BBC Update: 1205 Only four UK airports will remain shut after 1300: Belfast City, Londonderry, Shetland and Orkney. However, airlines have warned of delays throughout the day as flight schedules gets back to normal.

Well, missed the last chance to get the train, so will be relying on the flight now. Thanks, everyone for the info and moral support. Whether flight operates and whether it is on time, who knows! Nervous enough as it is!!

Hopefully see you all at The Valley...

Departure now 1.75 hours delayed. If it does go, that means we'll arrive at LCY at 19.10pm. Might just make it, but going to be touch and go...:-(
