Yeovil away. 2nd half we couldn't play any better or dominate any more....but just couldn't find the winner.
  • Two moments of madness by Sam Sode and Burton reduced us to nine men v Swindon and cost us a certain two points.

However, victory that day would have only put us level on pts with Leeds and behind them on goal difference.

As this thread rather shows, there was no one game that lost it as there are at least a dozen different and credible suggestions above.

Personally, some of the draws disappointed me at least as much as the defeats, and I'd put the two games v Gillingham high on the list.

[cite]Posted By: Bangkokaddick[/cite]all the other top teams have a twenty goal striker, often with a good back-up as well.
True, though we have Burton as the good back up, it's just the 20+ goals striker we're missing.

There are three or four that spring to mind but Yeovil away (although we drew of course) is one that got away for me....how we didn't win will forever remain a mystery.......................West Country black magic in evidence I reckon.

the one thing that has not cost us promotion is refs decisions, poor play, poor tactics, poor performances yes, poor refs no every single team would have had those decisions as a team you need to overcome them,

Tranmere and Oldham at home, = 4 points that would have taken us up.

Norwich away - last minute goal after a foul on Rob elliot.

Also, Saints at home, Burton's second disallowed goal was nowhere near offside.

there were so many abject performances at home mid season that you could point the finger at but i would say that considering we finished quite strongly that it had to be the Norwich home match that we fully deserved to win, however that game defined our season as being not quite good enough to get 2nd.

record against the top 6 overall

    played 10
    won 2
    drew 6
    lost 2

No particular game but I can't help feeling the mid season slump started directly after Kelly Youga got injured.
The gap wasn't filled til Jackson arrived and then he got injured!

I'm just happy to be in the Play Offs as they looked to be beyond us not long ago.

Any of the drawn games dont matter, as even if we had won them we still wouldnt have gone up apart from if we had beaten Leeds at Elland Road.
Iwill therefore say Brighton at home.

But all the clubs could say this - Wycome done the double of Millwall etc etc

Colchester when we dominated the early stages, missed a couple of chances and then let in 3 soft goals
