Gillingham. Oh dear. Why come out with the 'I want to be a Manager' crap? Good luck though Mark, you deserved better.

Stimson isn't terribly popular with the fans so I think he is biding his time.

Scally won't want to pay an extra salary for long!

Erm Large.....come on be fair to the bloke, the man needs to get some work and maybe the right job hasn't yet come up for him.
Or for all we know, there just might be something in the background down at The Jills!

All I meant was he said 'I'm ambitious, I want to manage' and then joins the Gills as coach. He could have stayed with us as a coach. Oh wait, he couldn't because he left because it was a cost cutting exercise and not because he immediately wanted to be a manager. If he did he could have stayed with us, applied for jobs and then left. Should've said it was a financial decision. Just all looks really silly to me.

I think he is Gillingham Manager designate so the "Iwant to be a manager crap" is true.
  • On the whole I think it could be a good appointment for him - Gillingham might not be the club he was hoping for, but some work is better than no work, presumably it's local so no having to move.

Gillingham have no money and if Stimson doesn't work out then he's ideally placed, and if Gillingham have a good season then by association he looks good.

Stimpson it appears like non-league players more than Pardew. The pikey supporting mates I have round here are beumsed by him and his fascination of all things non league

Good luck to him. Maybe the quotes about moving on to further himself were very considerate to us - it wouldn't have looked great if he'd gone on a rant about being given the bullet after such sterling service. If it was primarily a cost-cutting exercise on our part, he publicly accepted it with great dignity and no hint of anything that could be used to harm us. Nobody ever appeared to have a bad word about his work (off the pitch anyway).

It could have been the case that part of his ‘package’ to leave was to not say it was due to cost cutting. I’m all for openness from the club but publicly advertising the fact we are in financial mess as we have to let the coach go would not be the best move, and would have had clubs after the players (some whom have now gone) for less than we have been subsequently offered.

Good luck, but he did say he wanted to be a manager didn't he? Maybe it's just not worked out for him.

Wanting to be and being are totally different, soemone has to offer him the post. Maybe Scally thinks he is a good coach, but not managerial potential.
  • assistant manager is a step up from coach. He's still young, give him time!

Of course, he probably just hasn't been offered a job as manager.

Got a lot of time for Mark Robson. He did a great job as a youth coach at Charlton with alot of players who played under him going onto to our first team or make a career for themselves else where. Sam,Elliott,Bassey,Michael Turner, Randy, Barry Fullar, Danny Shittu,Myles Weston and many others.

Don't think Sam will ever have a season like Robson's at the Whammies when they went up.

well if they are leaving the door open for him to return if and when he is ready then it must be for personal reasons as stated. Let's hope it isn't anything too serious.

Reading the BBC report, it definitely gives the impression that Robson has quit, rather than been fired.

Gills are even quoted as saying that the door is left open for him, if he wishes to return.

    As StoneMuse says, very strange.

He left us because he was asked to coach AND scout, which he thought unsuitable - maybe the Gills have asked the same.

I'd read that as personal reasons outside of football, but who knows. Nobody's business but his really.

    Quite so.

Better not to speculate but just wish him good luck with whatever it is IMHO

He left us because Pardew is a plank, to use the technical term.
