    good signing.
  • Best two players on pitch at Norwich game were Daily and him by a long way IMO. An 'experienced' partnership you might say but we could do a lot worse.

If true, let's give him a chance before we start slagging him off. He did well at Norwich last year

Sure Norwich fans were convinced he was the best centre back in the division last season. Dailly - Doherty a bit slow mind.

    I'm happy with this

Voted best CB in League One last year. Only query is lack of pace so paired with Dailly/Llera not an option

Can't see us both getting Chilvers and Fortune as well now.

Doesn this mean one or more of Dailly , Sodje or Llera are going ?

he started 38 league games for norwich last season and 6 cup games....
hope it doesn't mean we're not re-signing christian dailly
  • A good signing for this level - I hope it doesn't mean that Dailly is off

Could be some truth then in Daily moving back up to Scotland.

I have laughed at him a lot in the past, but at League 1 level you cannot knock this signing.

in League 1 he is a very good player. In the Championship he isn't. Unfortunately we are not in the Championship. I'm pretty happy with that to be honest. As pointed out was excellant both times we played them last season. So will either Dailly or Sodje sign, or both ?

However, not on the OS site yet so not a done deal remember.

    Get real R., off course he'll be slagged off. ; - (

Only 30, experienced, solid and previously a captain.

Not the fastest but a VG signing if it happens IMHO

Would certainly make him skipper if Daily isn't resigned.

    Good player for L1.

    Good signing.

Dailly not put pento paper yet so could be a Doherty/Chilvers pairing. We probably need another CB anyway so wouldn't be shocked if Dailly signed too.

To all those saying a Dailly/Doherty combination would be a bit slow, I'd still rather have that partnership than Sodje/Dailly or Sodje/Doherty. Positional awareness, discipline and marking are more important than being fast.

Like I said in the other thread, good signing if true. Was this on Sky Sports News? I couldn't see anything, and it's not online either.

Agree with Dabos about positional awareness rather than pace.

Also Doherty is a big of a lump compared to our current centre halfs and how many times have we seen our strikers out muscled by big tall centre backs over the last few years? Hopefully Doherty will give us that to opposition strikers!

Good signing if true, a few years ago never but for where we are now we won't do much better. He's only 30 as well I thought he was around Dailly's age!

Bit slow! - I know lets play Wagstaff as a sweeper, fast and direct!

Like the sound of this in every way except I suspect it means Daiily will go. Hope I'm wrong though. Even though they may both be a bit slow I don't see any reason why they can't play together - Doherty is a go head it type while Dailly likes to read the game and sweep up the pieces. It's a balanced pairing and Daiily is not quite as slow as it's made out and he's usually 5 yards ahead in his mind - they'll get done if a really quick player gets a run on them, but lethal finishers with blistering pace are thin on the ground at this level so as a pairing they should be more than adequate 95% of the time.

Yeah just seen it. Hopefully confirmed later today then, along with another ginger player leaving the club.

I'm sure it was Gary Doherty I signed for Charlton on Championship Manager 00/01 or 01/02, could play as a centre back or striker back then which was useful. Probably hasn't played as a striker in a long time.
