Poised to sign on a two year deal according to SSN.

We know they got ahead of themselves yesterday, but a good signing.

Really? A good signing? His record is average and injury prone. I just hope its not a case of making up the numbers even in our state I think we could do a tad better.

An international striker, who works hard and gives it out. Hopefully he can get a few goals. Hey I am a realist

EDIT, although I will not believe it until it is on the OS Henry

Feeney and Doherty if true aren't bad signings for freebies.

If we get Jackson and Reid and keep Dailly it will be more than I could have hoped for.

But we have no money and I am happy we are able to bring in players at all, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt before I moan about his signing.

He's been at Cardiff, a good Championship side. They had better strikers. Not convinced but I wouldn't write him off if given a run in the side at League One level.

Any striker we sign from this league or above probably won't have a good goalscoring record in recent years. Anyone we sign with a good recent goalscoring record will probably be from League Two or below.

It's down to Parky to find a striker that will hopefully become a goalscorer at this level. We can't afford and attract strikers that there won't be a few doubts about. It's different to other positions.

I think Sky are going to report us 'signing' everyone, on the chance that surely if they guess enough times one of them will have to be true!

Good way to get people constantly going back to their website/sports channels, and as you say they will eventually get one right.
  • He was on his way to Leeds last season until he failed a medical so he must have something wrong.
He has had injury after injury so even if we do sign him i wouldn't expect too much from him.

Without signing ungrateful, I am totally underwhelmed by this signing if it's true. His stats speak for themselves. We were promised a goalscorer & we've got Feeney, Akpo & Mcleod. Before people say that we haven't got any money blah blah blah, he's an international striker who has been released by a championship club so I would guess that he'll have demanded a healthy salary & signing on fee.

    Agree.

Plus it's a good way for an agent to tout his player around. Ring a contact at SSN, say Club X are "interested/he's about the sign" and maybe it will generate some action from another club.

Listen to CFGS. As the Twitter feed said "Just a quick reminder that club policy is that transfers are confirmed/announced when they have actually been completed (MW) #cafc"

Can't say the prospect fills the heart with excitement. Not a bad player but lots of injuries and clubs.

Not going to make any specific comments on individual players until the are confirmed on the OS, but have we not learnt with MacKenzie that it is no good signing injured or injury prone players from higher leagues ! I'd rather sign someone who has a track record lower down and is FIT -

this is all rather hyopthetical, but if we were offering him a contract then given his record and our finances then presumably there would be some sort of fitness clause

would prefer that O'Toole bloke from Barnet and Matt Harrold. As pointed out Feeney is a gamble injury wise and we can't afford gambles. Plus his goalscoring is poor.

    "We were promised a goalscorer"...

    When and by whom?

We'd all quite like one but I don't believe too many proven goalscorers are queueing up outside Sparrows Lane at the moment. Don't know anything about Feeney except that we've been linked for a long time. Injuries and lack of goals cause concern but there may well be reasons for both that can be overcome.

We sailed that boat with varney and McLeod - fat lot of good it did us.

It must be a made up rumour, as with our limited budget, surely they wouldn't sign an injury prone player again.

Just like Mckenzie, we may as well pour money down the drain.
  • If he signs on a pay as you play deal it wouldn't be too bad but if we give him a 2 year deal it'll probably end in tears

Phil Chapples comments on the OS that we need a 20 goal a season forward & someone who can nick a goal. Feeny falls into neither of those categories.

would rather have lee trundle, quality at this level for swansea and at 33 a bit wiser and could help development of younger players

I'll leave it up to Parkinson as he knows our budgets, the terms of any deal + fitness levels.

If I feel the need to manage Charlton I'll play Championship manager.

yes but we paid a lot of money for them. Now we are talking freebies and much lower wages and so a gamble worth taking.

you sure about that. We all said MacKenzie was a gamble at the time and so it proved. We wasted his wages last season which we couldn't afford. Now we are set to do it again. It'll be another mistake and a gamble we can't afford to take.

He did, but that doesn't mean it'll be someone who scored 20+ last season. Any striker that scored regularly last season that is on a free will only come to us from League Two lower. I don't think any of League One's top scorers last season are out of contract.

    2001–2004 Bournemouth 98 (32)
    2004–2005 Stockport County 31 (15)
    2005–2007 Luton Town 77 (8)
    2007 → Cardiff City (loan) 6 (0)
    2007–2010 Cardiff City 14 (0)
    2007 → Swansea City (loan) 10 (5)
    2008–2009 → Dundee United (loan) 22 (6)
    2009 → Sheffield Wednesday (loan) 1 (0)

    He's only played 50 games in 4 years. . . .

I thought he was successful at Luton then you look at the record he's worse than all our previous 'superstars'
