A Defining day

A day that deluded supporters of our proud club can open their eyes to the fact that we're not going to be playing the Arsenal's and the Liverpools any time soon.
We're not going to be rescued by some multi rich diamond magnate.
Decent runs in the auto windscreen cup will be seen as a good season.
Games where the ball spends more time in space than it does touching a blade of grass week in week out.
Shit football is here to stay.Get used to it.

    I am not sure it was a defining day. One good player in, one less known battler and one good one out. At this stage, every player has to be viewed as having a value. If we can replace one with a viable, cheaper option, deals will be done.

    If Parky is trying to assemble a team of battlers, we may do better than some are fearing. There's still four weeks to go and a cohesive, battling team may be good enough to get us close to promotion. The biggest worry is going to be the size of the squad - a couple of key injuries will turn our season into a struggle.

    We hardly set the world on fire with probably the biggest budget in the league last season.Just can't see how things will be on a par with that now we probably have one of the lowest.
    There's still plenty of optimism on here though.I'm just saying people need to get real.Next season will probably/definitely be a bad one,so just be prepared for that when you turn up and try not to vent your dissapointment in the players direction.Time to get the old Charlton suppporter mentality back.Anything better than a thumping is a bonus.

    There is a positive aspect, although admittedly, it's scraping the barrel. I've been reading about how the weight of expectation supposedly inhibited the World Cup superstars. We've weighed our players down with expectation but this season we have no expectations, no 'promotion is imperative' stuff. Maybe it will help the players to relax and go for it, I'd enjoy that.

    But promotion is imperative. I can't see how we can cut our costs enough to avoid administration without further injections of capital or player sales.

    The £450k for Richardson was too good to turn down, but we must have fewer than three players that we could sell for in excess of £200k now, so we really do need to go up very soon.
