It is clear that something isn't quite right with this Bailey to Boro transfer.

Its now been rumbling on for over two weeks. Terms were agreed a minimum of 13 days ago, and medical passed 9 days.

Yet it still hasn't been officially concluded.

1. Have Boro had a change of heart / sought to amend the deal that was agreed ?
2. Has the player had a change of heart and decided he doesn't want to go there, and secretly we are trying to offload him elsewhere ?
3. Have we been unable to agree what payment we have to make to Southend as part of their sell-on fee ?
4. Was anything uncovered in the medical that would halt / amend the deal ?
5. Is the stated reason that key Boro personnel are out the country actually the truth, and the rest is just scurrilous rumour ?
6. Was Frazer Richardson sold as a result of the collapse / delay / amendment to this ?

I just don't believe the stated reason (5). No club has official signitories uncovered for such a long period at a key contract stage of the year, and even if they were all abroad, fax machines are used in these situations. And allowing him to train with them before deal conclusion is starting to look increasingly odd. Is he still training with them ?

It is obvious from Parky's blurb on the official site on Thursday last week that Richardson was one of his key senior players for this season (he highlighted Richardson and Semedo). So it is equally fair to say that this transfer has only come about since then.

So was the sell in addition to the earlier agreed Bailey transfer, or as a result of some hitch being hit in this transfer ?

Can the very 'un-Charlton' way the Richardson sale was put out be read that the manager is unhappy with this development, or even had no prior knowledge ?

So many questions....

The fact that boro have signed other players surely suggests that it's not only a case of point 5 ??

6 I reckon. Don't think a fee has been agreed yet either.

I agree that some problem has arisen. It could be any of the above except the Boro personnel being unavailable rubbish. That was put out last week but even wee Gordon said it'll be done at the beginning of this week. Boyd has signed. Maybe we are still negotiating with Southend. They are entitled to 20% of any profit. Maybe we are saying to them reduce that to 10% otherwise the deal doesn't stack up for us and if you don't agree then we won't sell and you won't get anything. Maybe Southend won't budge and neither will we. They are harder up than we are and will want to get as much as possible from the deal and who can blame them. This scenario could account for the Richardson fire sale but whether Bailey deal was done or not I don't thi nk we'd have turned down the 450k offer. I doubt Bailey failed a medical as it was widely reported, comments from Strachen too, that he had passed one. Likewise terms had been agreed. Maybe someone else has come in with a late bid and we are renegotiating with Boro. Who knows. All I know is that something somewhere is up. If it isn't resolved soon the liklihood of Semedo going increases.

When I spoke to one of his representatives at the weekend they were just waiting for the Boro bloke to come back from South Africa to rubber stamp the deal.

6 crossed my mind when first reading about the Richardson sale.

Could have Bailey and McCormack in the middle next season.

Was AM the player who had a go at NB in the Roots Hall match?

I have seen the error of my ways and it has now permeated my thick skull that nothing is done until it is on the Official Charlton Site, even if it is on the Official Southampton Site first ;-0

don't think the richardson deal had anything to do with it. think the offer came in and the board saw pound signs; we got him for nothing, so half a mill a good return.

as for bailey, I think that Murray was right when they said they hadn't agreed on a deal yet. i think they let Bailey discuss terms and have a medical, but we're still negotiating the fee.

Boro fans are reporting (606) that they had heard no deal could be finalised until someone from Charlton returned from a business trip! They said it doesn't add up as we've signed other players so why not Bailey?

The fact Boyd has signed up tells me there are enough people there to sign the necessary paperwork.

I don't think the Richardson deal is anything related at all - I think that all happened very quickly and was too good to refuse.

I am not too concerned right now because I dare say he will be going somewhere even if its not Boro.

My initial thought was that maybe they saw him training, realised he has a crap touch, can't pass and sounds like a girl when he shouts

perhaps shows we were wise not to spend the money before it was in the bank .... have Boro bought any players yet from another club (as opposed to picking up freebies) ?

you'd have a point if it wasn't for the fact he was training with them. Barca have probably agreed terms with Fabregas but I can't see Arsenal letting him train with them whilst they negotiate a fee.

Good point them signing Boyd etc must show that Lamb (Their Cheif exec I think) is in the country to sign papers.

I think there is a 7. Maybe the clubs are negotiating a player-exchange component to the deal. So Charlton might be talking to one or more Middlesboro players to see if they are willing to join Charlton. Then the clubs would have to agree what value that player or players constitute in the deal.

The Number 2 crossed my mind, he has a young family I believe and is a London guy. Middlesboro is quite a way away and not the nicest place to be IMHO. Maybe Bailey is hoping Norwich come back in.
  • Can defo see 6 being true.

Shame if true as I wouldve preferred to see Richardson with us than Bailey next season.

    7. We have taken McCormack from Southend to offset the compensation to Southend. Now this has happened the Bailey deal will be sealed.

According to the Southend website, McCormack's contract (and adam barrett's) was cancelled by them on 24th June.
That made him a free agent, 2 weeks ago. Nothing to do with compensation to Southend.

Maybe Bailey's missus is giving him grief: "You only think about yourself and your effing career; what about me and the kids? And SoundAs? And if you think I'm living up norf, then think again chum! Grrrrrrrr!!!!! :o)
