Sodje to Greece? Parky trying to get Dailly to sign?

I thought Dailly was very good last year but I do worry that maybe that was the last year in him.

Maybe as a Utility player who can come off the bench and as another leader in the dressing room he still has value.

Maybe the argument is over wages. Lots of senior pros out there (Sam and Burton are just two) waiting for the right offer to come along. For some it will never come.

Can't blame players for seeing what else is out there rather than taking the first offer.

That we got Jackson and Doc for free shows there are still good quality players available at wages we can afford.

Long way to go yet. All of July and August before the window shuts and then the loans will start.

Have to say I'd make Dailly the priority of the two. Llera isn't the liability some make him out to be - his errors just stand out for obvious reasons. It'd be nice to keep Sam Sodje too but we all know his short-comings. A fit and enthusiatic John Fortune would also be more than welcome.

[cite]Posted By: Charltonparklane[/cite]In al honesty and I dont mean this as a wind up but how hard can it be to get a League 1 player to sign another year who is out of contract at 36 byears old?

Surely it should be 'this is what we can afford, take it or leave it' and his response is 'Yes ok' or 'no thanks I'm afraid'

Its not like the premiership days were there are add ons, boot deals, sponsorship tie inns, clauses in contracts

Get on with it or move on?????? You've had 2 months to sort it out.
Look at it this way - as soon as we sign them, we have to start paying them. Delaying the deal a couple of weeks might be a risk, but it's saving us money too.

And also allows other teams to speak to them during this period and sign them before us.

I see on Twitter that Dailly drew Spain in the office sweepstake, so at least he's been keeping in touch. Just a small thing but I really think, and hope he'll re-sign.

Dailly was a risk last season, albeit one who'd been available to play for his club for most matches since the Whammies promotion year. Whatever the truth of the money matter, I feel last year without him we's never have looked like promotion candidates at any point. For me it as an utter priority we sign him. Sam Sodje, is and will never be positionally reliable.

That might be OK if you've got 10 fit and powerful outfield players like Leeds, but with us it's not. With Doherty, Dailly and Llera at least Dailly can be given the rest in the winter mire, where he and others struggled to make two games a week.

I like Sodje, I'd be disappointed if he doesn't sign. Especially after all the rubbish about Charlton being in his blood.

Come on Dailly, sign that deal...

I really doubt Sodje's going to be here next season. Might miss his pace at times but Dailly and Doherty sounds pretty good. Dailly far more important than Sodje.

Sam Sodje might be keen to sign a new contract here, for all we know.

It might be Parky that's decided to move him on.
Or just that we've only offered him half of what his contract was worth last year - and he can double his money elsewhere, maybe?

If you were offered a new job with double your wages, would you turn it down?
Same with footballers. It's just a job.

I thought Dailly got better as the season went on, so i reckon he's got another season in him playing every week.

Particularly if it was somewhere with nice weather, if you were a couple of years of retirement. Over the last few years we've let a lot of players go, we can't get worked up when the boot's on the other foot.
  • Didnt think Greece had any money to offer?

He wouldn't be signing for Greece, just one of the football clubs there.

Cant see it confirmed anywhere on here but Sam Sodje has signed for Greek side Skoda Xanthi on a one year deal with the option of an additional year. Apparently a lot of Nigerian footballers play in Greece.

A quick google and it seems so according to several Nigerian websites that may be harmful to my computer!
